Did Buzz manage to keep his coat on through the entire game?
For some reason, and I could be wrong, I feel like I remember reading somewhere that Frank would not attend any VT games this year out of respect for Fuente. So Beamz might be between the hedges this season.
Makes me wonder if Frank will attend VT games or UGA games next season.
I think this has reached a point when it needs a new thread to highlight the fact we are up against UVa
Bumping this thread.
Yea I hear you, and if I had to pick anyone to be the frontrunner right now I think Mot and Evans would be pretty good choices, but I'm not so sure that most of the reasons you mention will factor into the decision.
I know Fuente went with the redshirt freshman over the senior but not only is this just one example, but I also think that Fuente saw the true gem that he had in Lynch and as a result felt he was truly the best option.
As far as the investment that he coaches had in Evans out of JUCO, I think that shows that the coaches certainly recognize his potential, but at the end of the day I don't think that will have any influence whatsoever on their decision for a starter. I have full faith that they will make an objective, unbiased evaluation and put what they know to be the best man for the job on the field based on their evaluation of the QB's in the Spring and Fall.
Either way I can honestly say that I'm much less confident in making a prediction of a starter than most seem to be (especially 2 practices into the Spring). I'm just beyond stoked for the competition and I will be more than happy with whoever wins the job.
Interesting interview by Bitter with Coach Vice:
Coach mentioned how he liked zone blocking because it allowed younger lineman to get in earlier which helped depth, and it allowed the offense to push the pace because you're not waiting so much for the defense to set to determine your assignment. (Edit: run on sentence, anyone?)
Coach Vice sounds like he has more at Tackle than he thought which is encouraging.
Watching the video of Cornelson coaching up Evans (edit: about riding the mesh point) something stood out to me. I saw Motley, on the very next rep, do exactly what Cornelson coached Evans not to do. Not only does Cornelson not correct Motley, but gives him an "atta' boy."
Now I'm not reading much into Cornelson's intent or attention span there. Nor am I going to extrapolate out anything about Motley because he didn't perform a practice rep perfectly. But the kind of coaching Cornelson was giving Evans is the kind of coaching Motley is going to have to seek out and take if he wants so much as a whiff at the starting job.
Well, it is all about family, right?
LOLUVA's much more of a basketball school than we are, and so a job there isn't viewed as a stepping stone.
"University of Virginia Tech." Doing it right.
Obviously, we know who this was for now as it is official. But I saw that a "Rivals100 player committed elsewhere was gonna be at VT this week"
Anyone have word on this?
Um, beamerball?
"Hooker uses feet to beat D"
Let the good news roll! And here I thought crootin season had closed!!
Thought it was a good interview by Bitter.. This VV quote stood out to me...
"And the thing that's most exciting about Blacksburg right now, because coach [Justin] Fuente and I have been together for a while, and we've always looked for this place. You know, the community, the level of football, the no ceiling on this program. There's not one. And what a great place to raise your family. We think like we've hit it out of the park with everything we've always looked for in a program is here. Now let's go draw a line in the sand. Let's take that next step. And that's what's exciting about every day."
Like that the message of this be THE location for Fuente keeps coming up... fingers crossed we can 'take that next step'!!!
SUCK IT ECU.
I just now saw this for the first time. I know not how.
I will certainly check my calendar.
In case I have another commitment, is there a place near Roanoke I can join up?
Edit: I see, Troutville Exxon. Good spot for me.
I see my wife has that day reserved. I may have to join up in Troutville. I'll check to make sure what it is I am assigned to do. I'll find a way to donate, I'll just need to work out the details.
Thanks for brining this back to the front page so I can finally see it.
I wouldn't be shocked either if Motley got the nod (particularly after seeing a brief clip of Evans). It's not as though physically Motley doesn't fit into what Fuente might want to do.
However after hearing Fuente comment about wanting a guy who consistently makes the expected plays (I'm paraphrasing), I'm not sure that's Motley's strength. However as a 5th yr Sr with PT under his belt, he might end up being the lesser of evils on that front.
Looks like he is always moving downhill.
a backer in a similar offense
I want to hear more about this offense he played backer in. Maybe Brad & Bud can use it to our advantage, some sort of hybrid where we convert our own turnovers into points. Were any of our offensive staff former DCs?

French I know you have a lot on your plate, but could you breakdown that interview? Any surprises for you? Anything that stands out good or bad?
To me, the issues mentioned in how schools report their expenses essentially invalidates this whole analysis. Setting that aside though, the other problem I see with this analysis is the author's implication that there should be a causation relationship between expenses and on-field success rather than just noting it as a correlation. It seems as if this author would have you believe that every $1 spent by a football program should lead to more wins. And sure, some expenses (such as paying big money for a good coach) are made with the intent of trying to increase on-field success, but a lot of expenses have zero to do with increasing on-field success and everything to do with revenue generation. For example, if you spend $25M expanding your football stadium, you're doing that because it will lead to additional ticket revenue, not because you think you'll win more games due to extra seats in your stadium. If one wants to really evaluate how much bang for the buck each program is getting, we would need an algorithm that measures expenses vs a combination of on-field success plus revenue.
p.s. One random aside that some might be interested in knowing-- the data the author used to measure on-field success is from the Massey ratings which were developed by Kenneth Massey. Massey got his MS in Mathematics from Virginia Tech.
Serious question...why is no one talking about Tony Bennett leaving? Buzz makes it to NIT and all of a sudden he's the top candidate.
Seems to me the sky's the limit for Buzz...right here in the ACC...right here in VA.

Not sure, but I believe that he still being paid by VT in an ambassador type role.
