I wouldn't be shocked to see Motley be named #1 coming out of spring but I don't believe he will stay healthy. One of the other 2 have to be ready to play. I don't think the starter of the TN game plays every snap of that game.

I've seen this before, but I'm guessing that VT will be on an upswing with the new coaches on staff.

Also, I'm guessing that all those teams near the line, including VT, are within the margin of error.

I just think back to the fact Fuente benched a returning senior starter at QB for redshirt freshman Paxon Lynch. Feel like if he feels the potential to be better exists he will pick someone other than Motley.

Think leader in the clubhouse has to be Jerod Evans based on that Fuente and Cornelson have been following him for quite a while. Cornelson has a close connection to Evan's JUCO OC as I believe Cornelson coached the OC before.

I do have feeling as Lawson probably has the highest ceiling of the group.

I do like that it that we have 3 good options with some level of experience above high school ball.

We also can't forget that Frank was a defensive back at VT. He had a defense first mindset, and to my way of thinking, never really embraced more than a conservative offensive approach. It served us well for a long time, but definitely seemed to hurt us at the end. While we had periods of good offensive production, I believe that conservatism was a big cause of our stagnation, as the world of offensive football seemed to pass us by, leading to recruiting misses and an inability to back up our defensive prowess in some hotly contested games when just a tad more offense would have made the difference in the outcome. I'm excited to see Fuente's scheme in action, and hope I can be patient enough to give him time to structure the team for his vision to be implemented.

I don't expect to see Motley as our first quarterback, but I, like most of us, trust the coaches to do what's right in their selection. While Motley did take a turn last year, and therefore has more D1 experience than anyone else we have, it's not like Evans wasn't playing ball last year, nor was he in high school. Fuente went after him for a reason, and I expect we'll see why by the end of Spring ball. I probably trust French's opinion on the matter more than anyone not being paid to coach VT football, but I would be very surprised if Evans isn't our starter, at least by Fall.

If Fuente and Cornelsen think Motley is the best QB option out there then that's good enough for me.

It doesn't seem sad and pathetic.

It's just that the couple of lines about Buzz leaving changes the tone from one of appreciation to one of fear.

We become what we obsess about. Let's make that winning, not losing.

Unless he makes some serious improvement, I 'd rather not see Motley as the starter. The INTs against Pitt still give me nightmares.

Nothing wrong with clearly stating your intent, especially when the prospect of Buzz leaving is being so openly discussed.

I don't see much room for improvement on the OP's letter, other than perhaps mentioning the location of the next Hardee's coupon dead-drop.

I'm sorry that my post seems sad and pathetic. I'm not down on my hands and knees begging, pleading, and sobbing for Buzz to stay, but I'm cognizant of the fact that he has no long-standing ties to Blacksburg and is one of the top coaches in the country today, so he will continue to get attention from big name destinations in the future.

I'm incredibly proud of what he has done with the team, and I have never been more optimistic about our basketball program. I hope he stays forever and takes us to new heights, and I'm incredibly proud of the way he represents the school.

Thank you. No offense to OP but I don't like seeing these posts. Instead of an open letter pleading Buzz to stay, I'd much rather see an open letter praising Buzz for exceeding expectations and offering optimism for the future. Take out the "Please don't ever leave us" and the letter is perfect IMO.

Coach K is many things besides a great basketball coach, and one of them is that he is a really great whiner. I will never forget our first trip to Duke after joining the ACC. Seth got thrown out of the game, we were down by about 30 points, the officials were jobbing us in a manner I had never seen before, or since for that manner, and the foul count was absurdly one sided, yet there was K, whining about the few no calls and generally exhibiting what I took as classless behavior in a complete route. I didn't hate Duke before that, I do now, and part of that is my impression of their coach. I'll admit to being impressed by their students, though, they were absolutely "crazy" and it was a lesson in how intimidating a fan base can make it for visiting teams. He needs to keep his comments to his own team and leave others alone, no excuse for that in my book, regardless of his accomplishments.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Motley win out. He has all the physical tools. If he had been tabbed earlier as the QB and coached up a little more on making quicker decisions, given a little help with adjustments by the staff to help him succeed (see Pitt game) he would have been more successful. Not that he was completely unsuccessful far from it.

As my old high school football coach used to say on the morning of the first practice with pads: "You better strap a toilet to your ass 'cause the shit's gonna fly!"
