Keion gives you the added bonus of blocked punts. And 100 yard INT returns for touchdowns vs. Miami.
I think that's a pretty good match. I think Dixon is a good coach, but I doubt he's going to take Pitt any higher than they already are. TCU gets a good coach, and Dixon gets a change of scenery (and he's going home).
A few things I noticed on the updated roster:
Both Williams and McKenzie have dropped weight...which DJ Reid found
On the OL, McLaughlin and Plantin dropped some weight among the tackles, but Nijman beefed up to near 3 bills.
Conte is up over 300 and Pettit is closing in, as well. Mitchell is finally up over 280 and at a size where I think he can contribute.
Osterloh gaining 13 pounds is beginning to worry me as I don't know how athletic he can be with his frame at that weight.
Chung and Smith have added some weight amongst the Centers and are now both above 290.
We got some tall D linemen, with 9 topping 6-3, including all 6 Ends. However, the lack of weight is troubling when we have to go up against power teams, although Settle could assuage those fears.
LBs, only 4 greater than 230. I'd be happier if they were in the 240-250 range, but that's just me.
DBU: Tall, big dudes
Exactly, too each his own. For me its NFL, College Football, MLB and then everything else is a distant 4th...

Grey tried to take DBU with him. That knocks him down a peg or 2 in my book
Good point. I guess building a house is different for someone in his position compared to mine.
Will be getting a bottle opener sometime between now and Spring Game.
All,
For the regulars, you've heard my speech multiple times already and i apologize if its getting repetitive, but again we have some new eyeballs here. VT wrestling is doing some fantastic things, and I'm not sure there's another sport showing the sustained incremental climb to the top (Womens soccer and Mens T&F have arguments).
There are two main ways to support the Wrestling program:
1. Donations through the HokieClub earmarked specifically for Wrestling. The way to earmark your donation has changed over the years, and its best to talk to someone from the funding side of the VTAF when you make your donation. Donations to the HokieClub help Kevin justify budgets and expenses to Whit. With strong hokieclub donations, Kevin can ask for higher coaching salaries, better travel stipends etc etc. This donation earns you points like it would donating to football, but you need to let the VTAF you want the money designated for Wrestling. This donation may be the biggest bang for your buck when giving to VT Athletics.
2. Kevin Dresser runs a 501.3c Non-Profit organization called the Southeast Regional Training Center:
A regional training center is a site affiliated with USA wrestling with the purpose of developing wrestling in the immediate local area. Our RTC supports many different functions throughout virginia including hosting middleschool and HS athletes. For Tech it provides an extra revenue stream to support Greyshit athletes and wrestling training partners like Devin Carter. For those new to wrestling beyond the coaches, training partners have the single greatest effect on improving the level of our wrestlers. Ty walz is the most noticable result of this, his time with Jeremy Johnson helped transform him from a good wrestler to an elite wrestler.
With the support of the SOUTHEAST RTC, more senior level athletes, olympic hopefuls have been through blacksburg than ever before, prior to RIO 2016. This will continue until the games and Tech needs to be poised to take advantage. Donations to the RTC are tax deductible, for those of you still needing to do your taxes.
To be honest and transparent, donations to the RTC go to improve Southwest virginia wrestling, and may not entirely be used on current VT wrestlers. The organization has a ridiculously low overhead cost and stretches all donations very far. The Southeast RTC is directly responsible for the addition of Mike Zadick and i think his effect on some wrestlers this season is blatantly obvious.
I just made my donation for 2016 this morning, usually do it the week after NCAAs to give Kevin momentum going into the offseason.

Their lowest level, $50, works out to a dollar a week, and was set to have a basic price point to allow those who are financially constrained still donate. If you are comfortable giving an amount between the levels listed i encourage you to email kevin at kdresser@vt.edu. In the past he has responded to every email, but i have no idea how crazy his inbox is. He has given me information on how to mail checks if i want to give a specific amount not listed on the donation site.
If you are unable to give this year, all i ask is that you consider attending a match next year if at all possible. Perhaps a late season football game, or a DC roadtrip we usually take (american or george mason), or Virginia Duals for the tidewater folks. Support in the stands is just as valuable to this program right now as dollars. 5,000 people for a single dual in Blacksburg this season was a special special goal Dresser had when he got to tech and it took him 10 years to achieve.

It's the off-season. Not like we have anything better to do (right?).

Someone brought up a great point earlier, every coach is building a new house. It's part of the game so don't read a ton into it unless you want to open the door to potential soul crushing despair and late nights of sorrow drinking that are made much easier with your new ergonomic TKP bottle opener!
Like how our head coach's last name means fountain in Spanish?

Now we just need to find a recruit with the last name Fountain, and we could unveil the Boats n Hoes Offense.

I expected answers like these, curious about the specifics, thank you!
GONNA be a great GET!
Because that where his dad played QB and is in the HOF. Never forget from where you come. All about respect for the school.
Probably trying to show respect to the local school, which is not completely uncommon for recruits to include the local small school in their final lists of choices.
Brian Mitchell/Galen Scott.
In all seriousness, Ward and Gray were/are fantastic DB coaches. You could argue for days which was better at VT, but I'm just glad that we were able to have both of them for a while.
As a side note, Whammy is now the DC at Fresno State after the coaching change at USCe.
Yeah, it's ridiculous that a motorcycle enthusiast would not know how to drive a manual transmission, especially since he's a gear head.
It'd be nice to get a Hooker and NOT get in trouble. Looking at your Louisville and Miami.
TCU and Dixon closing in on a deal. Honestly not surprised, wouldn't be surprised if Pitt takes a step back next year, but I don't suspect they fall off the map for too long if they make a strong hire (which they should.)
NC A&T?? because??
Hugely false. Pickens finances an athletic program. Koch brothers finance American politics.

Something I was thinking of yesterday, does anyone know if Seth Allen or Zachary Leday are graduating in the spring? They will both be 5th years and would be eligible to grad transfer with buzz if he were to leave. I don't think he leaves in the first place, but still could be something to think about. Doesn't seem likely to want to transfer twice, but Adam Smith did last year so it has happened.
