Looked it up and whoops, it was 1988. Not surprisingly, several people I knew/friends/1 roommate were Orioles' fans, so I got to hear all about it.

I think the outliers are why the vast majority of us watch sports. If the best team can be determined on paper beforehand, why play the game? Intangibles are real. If we just need to keep repeating the experiment until we get the outcome we expect, why run the experiment?
