I will miss them both. I will remember Dadi for that one sack and always be grateful to him for it.
I had this intense feeling of sadness when Tulsa had the ball for one last shot....Dadi Nicholas and the Lunch Pail D stood up one last time to make my sadness go away.

I graduated in 1992 and never saw a bowl game during the time I was in Blacksburg....the year after I graduated until now the Hokies have gone bowling.

One thing that is hurting Strong the most is that the other teams in Texas, that normally are inferior to UT, are having successful seasons (i.e. Baylor and TCU). I'm sure this is only adding fuel to the fire that is making Strong's seat hot.
I agree that, given time, Strong can make Texas relevant again. But I don't think the Texas supporters will give him that much time, while watching Baylor and TCU in the spotlight.
Since many of you have asked about Buzz not showing up for media postgame:
I'm not physically in Blacksburg, but Mark Umansky was at Cassell today for TKP and stuck around for postgame. Buzz finally did show up after a long wait and I believe we will be posting video shortly.
First 12 minutes aren't really that bad, but it's clear from the beginning what the outcome with be
If you're talking postgame radio, he was in the locker room according to Laazer past the time they could bring him on air.
I'm not even asking for him to be an NCAA tourney team by year four, but I do expect the team to at least be .500 in his fourth season. That's not asking for too much.
Buzz said he wasn't happy with how he had played, particularly on defense.
Yeah, really. Hill and Clarke start easily, and with Outlaw's scout rating you gotta think he's the 6th man at the very least. The only thing going against Buzz is how he pretends that Seth Allen has talent that he clearly doesn't. When Clarke gets healthy he has to sit him, no way around it.

This is going to be another Andy Reid situation. Chip will have plenty of success wherever he goes next, once again making the Eagles front office look like a bunch of idiots. Even if he's a giant douche and his system takes time to develop, they were the ones who hired him and should've known about all of this beforehand. Very poor management.
This is a GREAT question. He definitely has a personality, but having personality as an official is a double-edged sword. Your job is to officiate the contest fairly, and let the players/coaches determine the winner. In that regard, I have to say initial data shows his crews are on the lower end of calling penalties that has have a direct impact on the game. The exception was the UNC game, and that was skewed by the DPI's on our comeback drive. I'm in the process of pulling other ACC games for the crews, just to see what we can learn.
One of my officiating mentors put it best. You want to be recognized as "that Ref" but you don't want anyone to remember your name. At NASCAR, we constantly had to remind officials that they are there to support the show, not be a part of it. People pay to see the drivers / athletes, not the officials.

Yes, but I'm looking primarily for inconsistency in calls. For example, holding in the UNC game. There were three holding calls against the VT offense, and none against the UNC offense even though it appeared our guys were being held on virtually every snap. In fact, my next piece is likely going to be specifically on holding for that very reason.
Our next three games are against State, UVa, and Duke. If Buzz is doing something to help us develop between now and then, I'm fine with him skipping press stuff.
That was kind of my attempt by being overly optimistic about there success only coming from Fuente being physically present.
But even though they didnt execute at all; I actually thought the play calling was pretty solid.
I like that I saw some bunch route formations and some things that if I were Sam Rogers I would be pretty excited about for his likely H back role.
That's just too darn funny right there....
None of what I'm saying should be construed that there isn't a time and a place for some humor in the job (giving him the business... ) But that those moments are usually spontaneous and an exception, and are more appropriate when you're doing the rest of your job with excellence.
Buzz hardly even had a voice to yell at his players with several minutes before the end of the game. I would have been surprised if you'd have been able to hear him had he been interviewed!

Come to think of it, Chip Kelly to the Tennessee Titans is very likely so he can be reunited with Mariota.
Please settle down a bit and give Buzz some much-needed breathing room. Year 1 was a patchwork year where Buzz did what he could with the players and time he had. Now, year 2, he has more of his players, but he has had 3 big names go out with injuries. AND it is still a new team that mostly hasn't played together. I think year 4 is when he should ever really possibly go on a hot seat.l, because by then his system/players would have had a fair shot to prove themselves. VT men's basketball does not need to be a HC carousel!
Thought it was kind of a jerk move for Buzz to avoid all postgame interviews. I wasn't at the game and didn't get to watch it but sounds like he all but about had it out with all of his players during the course of the game. Combine those two things with a 25-pt loss and it's all around a pretty awful look for the entire basketball program.

Smith only 1 year left, but he is many times the player that Allen is. Meanwhile Muller had 3 years left and he was more of a team player, tougher, and better shooter than Allen. I mean there's still time for Allen to improve, but sometimes new isn't better. Probably should've stayed with what we had.
I thought Evans burned his redshirt season at Air Force. He got injured after enrolling, then transferred to JUCO. I can't imagine he transferred before the football season started, but I guess that is a possibility.

I don't really care if he gives an interview or not after that game.
What's he going to say?
He's got better things to do, I think.
