Unsure, but I know Notre Dame and other schools completely backed off (Ekanem).
I think Jeffrey is the safer pick I think freeman has the higher ceiling
If you want my honest opinion yeah. But take that with a grain of salt I don't claim to be some football expert
ECU could have only 1 loss to VT and still be glossed over as a mid-major team that had a good year. They're never going to help our SOS more than they hurt it. They are a good team (or, at least they were under McNeill...) and they have proven capable of beating us recently, but that doesn't matter as much as perception does. If we're going to play a team that has a relatively small positive effect on our SOS I would rather play a team that isn't so dangerous. Losing to ECU can kill an otherwise great season. 1 Loss VT could be in the Playoff conversation if that one loss is at the hands of Clemson in a close game early in the season. 1 Loss VT, and ACC Champ, is going to have a harder time getting into the playoff competition with a loss to ECU. It will make the whole conference lose credibility among the general public and that will influence the committee.
Look at the narrative around the ACC CG this year. Heading into the game everyone knew that if Clemson won they would be a lock for the playoff. However, a UNC win in the ACC CG could have resulted in both teams missing the playoff. Why? Because UNC lost to a bad SCar team and played an otherwise soft schedule. It won't matter if ECU goes 12-1 with an AAC championship. The AAC is still a G5 conference and the general perception (whether it's true or not doesn't matter) is that the G5 teams can't compete with the P5 teams on a regular basis. I don't think you'll ever see a G5 team make it into the playoff picture as long as the playoff includes only 4 teams. It. Just. Won't. Happen.
Losing to a good G5 team is still losing to a G5 team. That's going to be a big black mark on any P5 team's resume.
Need advice for a different league. Heading into the semi's with a chance to win some significant dough...Tyler Lockette or Danny Amendola?
My other starting WR is Allen Robinson
also on the roster Dez Nonfactor Bryant and Willie Snead
Someone should tell netflix we have a better script
OT but does UVA have anyone enrolling early?
I don't know if you mean this comment simply as a generality (which may be accurate), or directly in this sub-thread (which is now insulting a religion), but I think we've gotten to the point where we're no longer being productive or insightful. We've toed the line here in terms of discussing religion on the forums, maybe even crossing it, depending on how you read some of the comments. I think it's time to abort this particular line of conversation.
this guy has Hall / Flowers / Hosely / Fuller type potential
The new coach with the biggest challenge is Vice. We can bring in all the WR and QB talent in the world, but if our OL can't block or pass protect, we are going to continue to be inconsistent on offense. I think how quickly we can get the OL back up to snuff is going to determine our ceiling for the next couple of seasons.
Wait what? 2 new TE? Even if Bucky leaves early they still have a Cline at one spot.
Keep in mind we will still have a new QB, 1-2 true Freshman WR, and likely two new Tight ends. We return a lot of talent on both sides of the ball but there are some big question marks still
just because something is insulting doesn't make it untrue...
quality wins are going to change year to year. ECU is perfectly capable of being a quality win depending on how their season goes. They play decent quality programs like Cincinnati, Houston, USF, Navy in the AAC (they've been members for 2 years now) and regularly play the ACC NC schools. Sure they might need to have a 9 win season to be considered a "good win" for us, rather than an 8 win season for a P5 opponent, but they're capable of doing that.
The average age of BYU's roster is 23 FWIW. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/teams/roster/BYU/brigham-young-...
And at that, he only played like 3 games before Miami and was probably still nicked up for Pitt and maybe even NC St.

Hall is at it once more now that the Redskins moved him to safety. Almost to his own detriment, the way he is throwing his body around playing that role.
18 year olds who are trying to figure out who they are in general can definitely be persuaded and influenced.
what I don't understand about this comment is that everyone else seems to be saying that all of the players BYU gets are 20-something year old guys who are finally going to college after doing missions after high school. If that's the case, it implies that most of the athletes BYU brings in are already Mormons.
I haven't really been paying that close attention to this whole topic but I'm curious how many 18 year old non-Mormon kids are recruited to BYU both for football and spiritually.
French, amazing write up. Seriously, you're the man.
A part of me is worried that we are losing Dadi, Maddy, and Marshall.....and don't forget about Deon Clarke.
How much of a dropoff do you think there will be on the D-Line? I am excited about W. Baron, N. Williams, R. Walker, and T. Settle, but the experience (and results) have been pretty amazing with Maddy leading the way. Hard to replace IMO
RE: D. Clarke. I have not been that impressed at VT's LB core since Adibi/Hall. Is R. Minor gonna step up this Spring? Is Lydon going to be a star? D. Clarke was the stabilized force in the LB core, and Motuapuaka still has a long way to go before he's on Clarke's level IMO.
Beat me to it... if I had to choose between a few more holding penalties being called on us this year and not having Brewer and Motley peel themselves off the turf over and over, I would probably take a few more flags.
Hey, I'm a big fan of Music Band, too! Don't you love their new single, "Song"? It's on Album, which you can buy over at Record Store.
Chicago @ Minnesota this week.
I guess ATL and Freeman are crashing and burning too hard?
