Just imagine if Fuente could recruit? /s
Playing really shitty teams didn't hurt NCST this year with a bowl game, it didn't hurt Bama this year with the committee, or Baylor/TCU in the overall rankings.
Nah man. He's gotta look tough! All the time.
Yeah, that went a little bit too far. We're not here to criticize people's choice of religion. Just discussing the merits of a religious school's coaching search and the limitations they face.
that was my first worry on seeing a old recruiting article brought back up to the front.
In C-USA. Perception matters. ECU is regarded as a mid-major. They might be a good mid-major and we might understand that but when the voters look at the schedule for VT they see ECU and automatically discount whatever they have done. The perception is that they aren't a great team. That's a big reason why I hate playing them every year. I know that they are a good team but the perception is that they suck. If they win it looks like VT lost to a mid-major. It doesn't matter if that team is actually good or not. If VT wins, well, that's to be expected. That win will be glossed over in the grand scheme of things when looking at VT's resume at the end of the year.
If VT goes 10-2 and the committee is discussing our ranking they'll look at teams we've beaten and lost to. If we lost our two games (lets hypothetically talk about next year, for funsies) to Tennessee and Notre Dame they will use our wins over UNC, Miami, GT and probably Duke to justify ranking us in the top 20 based on strong wins and losses to good teams. Notice that the win over ECU means nothing here.
If VT goes 10-2 with losses to ECU and Tennessee the committee will continue to point to our bad loss to ECU as a reason to keep us out of the top 20. It won't matter that we've beaten Notre Dame and probably pretty decent ACC foes in Duke, UNC and Miami. ECU only matters if we lose to them, and they're a good enough team that we can lose to them in any given season. It's not worth the risk.
If ECU is going to be glossed over and basically disregarded if we beat them then why the heck wouldn't we play a team that is less dangerous? If it's not going to help us to beat them, let's play a team that we're more likely to beat.
I think we need to get small and quicker across the DLine.
Hi Tim Settle.
Leg for King of the Hill gif. We need more of these. Especially ones featuring The Big D, Rusty Shackleford.
People are complaining about how boring our uniforms are? My complaint is we try too much stupid shit.
Some schools enlist a consulting service to help them find their next coach. BYU is activating millions of two man sleeper cells to do it. For the first time, they are actually knocking on doors of known Mormons. "Hello sir, do you have any football coaching experience at the collegiate level? High School level? Pop warner?"

Thats actually rather terrifying
It's because they feel they can convert younger people into Mormons. They recruit people to become part of their religion and it's more cult like then at thing else, so yeah a full grown man who is non-Mormon would probably not into the whole conversion aspect.
She's too busy killin' it to mess with Twitter. Plus I imagine raising a kid takes up time too.

Still one of my all-time favorite screen caps:

Man, I am going to have to get used to this whole "recruiting topic I thought was dead being brought up again" being a good thing, and not that he's going somewhere else.
Yeah, but then he was the one who posted it to Twitter. Kid might just have RBF.
Makes me wonder about how we approach the dead period to day, versus how we approached it a few years ago.
Might explain some things.
Oh, at least you're not getting ones about the UNC "MBA you probably can't get into" that they ran for years
Me: "Ha ha ha ha ha..."
*realizes I was a senior in 1997*
Fuck.
