It's never been easy to fill Cassell on a weeknight, certainly. But we should have a better crowd than that.
It used to be the complaining about the crowds was on the out-of-town season ticket holders. But the students aren't there either. Looked like maybe 2,000 students last night. That's terrible.
that's a fair point
It'll be weird seeing a bunch of offers going out to states like Oklahoma, Texas, and Missouri. We've been looking south a lot of the time, and getting into the great lakes states a little, but the mid atlantic is what we call home. I'll be interesting to see what sort of guys we pull from the west.
The devil on my shoulder has never been so excited...
At one point, Bridgewater had a connection with VT. In the early 2000's, maybe they were running our defense?
Maybe Taylor would be interested in one of the "Quality Control" positions at VT. Would a guy like Overfelt do something like that?
As a parent of young kids, I'm not sure how happy my wife would be to have to make a public appearance at 8pm on a weeknight dragging all three kids along. Notice how she's carrying the youngest? That's cause it's probably past her bedtime and is either half asleep or grumpy as hell*
*total speculation from my own experiences...
How's that school of thought treating UNC?
You're not wrong, but let's just remember when Bucky, Travon, Ford, Phillips, Rogers, etc are running around making plays next year that they didn't just spring out of holes in the ground in Lane.
Alumni aside, they need to market to the community better. I mean, I grew up going to LOLUVa basketball games not because my parents were alumni, but because it was the only show in town. Surely we could fill Cassel with locals if we tried. Give away tickets in bunches to local high schools or companies or whatever. What's worse, giving away free tickets and having a packed house or not selling tickets and having those seats be empty? We could get some momentum and then scale back the freebies.
Im hearing some twitter rumors that Fuente/Foster have retained Coach Gray.
I have a feeling well know officially by the end of day today if not sooner.
As Whit and others have said repeatedly, we have two staffs right now, one for on-field coaching, one for recruiting. Current coaches are in their offices prepping for whatever bowl we go to, and any of them expressing disappointment that they won't be retained is not indicative of them just heading out before their team's last game.
Temple at Houston -6.5
Alabama -16.5 vs Florida
Stanford -4.5 vs USC
Clemson -5.5 vs North Carolina
Iowa vs Michigan State -3.5
It'll be a damn shame and disservice to everyone if he doesn't turn into a star with a name like that.
Houston
Alabama because Derrick Henry will run it down their throats
Stanford
Clemson
Screw it, let's go for Iowa

# | Hokies Can't Quite Get Over the Hump, Fall to Northwestern 81-79 in Overtime Good thoughts. I agree on LeDay, not sure what we get out of him. Chris Coleman at TSL compared him to JT Thompson, which is probably pretty accurate. He's a gamer with a little outside game but probably needs be inside. He will have matchups where he is quite effective....and nights like this. But he's got heart and grit, which this team needs as much of as possible.
This is exactly the Allen we were expecting, good and bad. He's going to be a heart attack all year. The odd feeling I had is that Allen takes the Alpha-Male shots that Green and Delaney took for us...but it doesn't seem like Allen has earned our trust yet to take those shots. Maybe its because he didn't start here and that will wear off.
Spot on for the freshmen. Clarke is super impressive and can probably shoot better than he has shown (he rarely takes a jumper). Looks good at the FT line, so I think he's got or will have a good stroke from the outside. Blackshear is really exciting, seems to be learning his bigger body yet. Next year, he's a monster. Love Robinson, and you're right, when he knocks down some of those jumpers, you won't be able to get him off the floor.
Surprised Buzz highlighted Wilson's defense, but that must be why he's playing. He had a brutal defensive miscue late on an inbounds play where he totally lost McIntosh for a 3 at the top of the key. It was a laughably bad defensive play, Wilson had no idea where his man was.
Hudson looked better, Pierce was resurrected from the dead, Bibbs looked solid. I really like this team, just gotta learn how to win.
Angel Oak! That's 10 minutes from my house.
Plus, if you close your eyes, it'll be just like you're an ACC ref anyway! /s
To clarify, booing your own team/coaches/players is a bad idea.
Won the SEC...then I would be incredibly surprised. Depends on how long he's got.
This goes back to my earlier point about location. How many alumni fans live within 45 minutes of Cassell to show up to the games? Compare VT to another in state school VCU. VCU built a smaller venue and have most of their alums within an easy drive. VT can fix one of those two issues, make Cassel smaller. The other will always hurt.

I think Shane going to another school is a necessary path for him. He can get more experience and then down the road could come back. If the position is open and he does, win win right.
