On one hand, I think UVA is exploiting a loophole here by not directly calling players or their households that often. But on the other hand, a lot of good it's done them, huh?

I would say if Miami ends up with Mullen and UVA gets Richt, it's not so clear anymore.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see Bud help with the transition and then go on to bigger things when Fuente is established here. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Bud be the "Beamer of the defense" for us and retire here.
That's basically the same move Houston did, except it worked out. The guy at Houston, who literally nobody knows his name, won 7 games a year between Sumlin and Herman. Because it's Houston, nobody cared when they fired him but 7 games a year is a pretty good success rate at Houston. But Herman has killed it, proably get them to a NY6 game and resigned for at least another year.
It hasn't worked out at Nebraska, but that doesn't mean firing a successful coach is a bad idea. Just hiring Mike Riley is a bad idea.

VT offered Bucky Hodges as a QB and not Corwin Cutler, who's dad helps run the 7 on 7 club. Cutler gets offer from UVA. Thoroughbreds funneled all their guys to UVA and shunned VT thereafter.

Oddly, the concern over Richt in 2000 and now is that he is too religious for Charlottesville. Bennett has been hired since then, to much acclaim, and is a very religious dude. I believe that UVA wants to put any concerns with Richt to rest that his faith won't be out of place in C'ville.
