1) Offensive Minded HC
2) Coach trending up with HC experience
3) Values
Foster fits only 1 of those 3 boxes. If Whit started here then entertaining Foster to make a pitch and giving Foster an inkling that it could be something Whit was interested would have been disingenuous. Because clearly Whit had made up his mind what he was looking for already. So instead of entertaining Foster's pitch, and worse allowing Foster to entertain the notion that he could win the job, he respectfully told Foster that the intent for the new HC was in a different direction, and that any "interview" would be hollow.
From someone that runs a company and faced with this from my internal team every time there is a job opening above them this takes massive amounts of respect to handle correctly. You might feel Whit did wrong by Foster by not giving him a chance, but I assure you this was played 100% correctly.
As a graduate of VT AND OSU, Saturday was a fantastic football day. It does not get much better than that!
I would love a another home and home series between the Hokies and the Bucks.
That's fair then.
I posted it in another thread, per tweets from Andy Bitter. VT is applying for a waiver from the NCAA, which is standard in cases like this.

Virginia Tech will ask the NCAA for a dispensation that allows the existing staff to prepare players for the bowl game without doing any recruiting and the new staff to recruit but not work with players at practice. Such arrangements aren't atypical with coaching changes like this.
So existing coaches coach, incoming coaches recruit. I suppose Bud can do both, since he's actually part of the new staff?

Absolutely. WR blocking is fundamental in Fuente's spread (as is true in most spread offenses, to be fair). But I also do not believe 40 could have made that block if the throw went to the sideline. The timing of the play is as important as the blocking, because the timing allows the blockers to be in the right position.
Shibest is the best, at STs coaching. Very impressive everywhere he has coached. STs are important and can be the difference in close games. Just ask that Frank Beamer guy.

I think what we're seeing is the committee really valuing conference championships. OSU's early loss to us last year didn't keep them from running the table and winning the B1G in dominant fashion. Same with Oklahoma this year; they had an ugly loss to Texas earlier, but they are the undisputed Big 12 champs and have impressive wins over Baylor, TCU, and Oklahoma St.
If you lose, you better lose early and out of conference. A late loss to an in-conference rival that keeps you out of a conference championship game can be very costly. I think allowing a team that didn't win their conference into the playoff against the team who beat them and did win the title would really devalue the regular season. MSU, should they take care of business against Iowa, shouldn't have to prove themselves again vs. OSU in the playoff. Barring really unusual circumstances, I think you will likely see the four best conference champions from the Power 5 in the playoff each year. Had Notre Dame beaten Stanford, I still don't think they would have made it in.

Bud being eliminated off the bat just doesn't feel right. I'm excited for the future, just sad for Bud.
I've thought that since he decommitted. If he liked what we offered under Frank on offense, there is no reason he would not like what Fuente offers. But I do think what interests him most is being coached by Burden.
We really need to accept the fact that some of our better younger coaches may leave for other opportunities. We have had MUCH more stability through the years than most coaching staffs. If Torrian Gray leaves, it will hurt, but we'll find a suitable replacement, just like we did when CFB retired.

More correct definition of Pouch:
1. a bag, sack, or similar receptacle, especially one for small articles or quantities (Where Mike London's wins against VT go)
2. a small moneybag (Whit gives to Fuente)
3. a bag for carrying mail (Where all of Fuente's scholarship offers go)
4. a bag or case of leather, used by soldiers to carry ammunition. (Bud keeps his blitzes here)
7. a baggy fold of flesh under the eye. (Mike London after the INT, Me after watching Bud/Frank/Shane after INT)
When a statue of Frank is built outside of Lane Stadium, I hope that they save room for Bud on the plinth, providing just enough room for his statue to wrap his arms around Coach Beamer as an eternal symbol of their kinship.
Perhaps the image of Bud kissing Frank on the neck should be the statue.

That, and all of the research they did going into this, and they did A LOT, showed that the teams with the most success in today's college football era more times than not are led by a coach with an offensive background and mindset. They did more research and investigation into this process than many are willing to give them credit for. And let's be honest, they did Bud a huge favor by being up front and honest with him once they realized that he wasn't the best option for VT as head coach and not giving him an empty interview.
Considering he is still here, I think he came out of this process feeling pretty good, too. Don't think any bridges were burned.
I like the size, but to my totally untrained eye, it looks like his technique needs work (based solely on this one picture). Low man tends to win, and he's almost standing all the way up. Anyone who actually knows line play wanna give their take?
