This. Our recruiting game will be completely different now. Just like Foster knows the recruits that will fit his defense, Fuente knows the recruits that will fit his offense. He turned Memphis into an offensive juggernaut with a roster of 3-stars. Our recruiting rankings might stay the same or even drop, but if we're getting the right kids for Fuente's offense, watch out.
If the statistics prove one thing, it is that Bud Foster has an absolutely brilliant coaching mind.

don't know if he would be a DB or WR.. Fuente loves to run WR quick screens with guys that can absolutely fly. this kid seems to have the speed and elusiveness to fit that mold.

I believe this is reasonable. Keeping Foster is huge. Instead of seeing the typical dip that comes with coaching turnover I think that stability will translate into our W-L record. Bud has worked magic with essentially no offense to speak of and that's taken us to 6 and 7 win seasons lately. I seriously doubt our offense gets worse with Fuente. At worst I expect our offense to be equally as productive as it was this season. With tough match ups vs UT, ND, and UNC there are easily 3 games that I don't expect us to win. The rest of our schedule, however, is pretty easy. I'm expecting anywhere from 7-9 wins next year. I also believe we'll go on a winning streak towards the end of the season to finish November at 4-0.

This. No matter how the rest of their lives play out aa statue of CFB without Foster would seem hollow. I've never known a game , and few of us have that doesn't have the two of them roaming the sideline. The volumes it speaks to Foster that he's sticking around to still try and get it done without Beamer gives me the feels. He embodies VT as much, if not more than Beamer with that move.
Damn it.. Now I'm all sappy on a day when I've gotta kick some ass.
Not to be a debby downer, but Mayberry would be one of the lowest ranked recruits of the class if he accepts. He is also the lowest offered CB from our class. We don't have any problem bringing in top DB's. I understand opening a pipeline, but offering much lower prospects to potentially get bigger names was a Mike London special.
Time will quickly tell what impact Fuente has on recruiting if he can save this recruiting class.
247 did an insiders post on our remaining big targets for 2016 class Haskins was very excited with the change and looks like a lock especially with Rutgers firing their HC, PJ2 is likely committing tomorrow although Pitt is making a late push. Pride/Patterson are waiting to see what happens with TG and Burden although even if TG stays doesn't look good for Pride. No word on how Tino Ellis and some of the Maryland commits are doing

There are some big mid-atlantic recruiters who are available. I like Burden but it may tempt Fuente to go with a more established guy.

I think recruiting Virginia will be come much easier when we start scoring points in bunches. It seems to me that most of the talent in Virginia is on the order of skill position athletes. I think Fuente's offense will help to draw those types of guys in.
I'm glad we're getting some coaches with roots in the west where we can get corn fed, beef eating OLs. That should go a long way to helping our offense improve too.
I also think if the offense shows that it's not going to put the defense in a bad position consistently it will make Bud's recruiting job a lot easier and I think by the cascade effect we'll see an uptick in defensive recruiting wins.
Regardless of who the coach was going to be in 2016, they were going to have to break in a new starting QB. Inevitably that will lead to some 1s season mistakes and missed opportunities so I think we will want to temper expectations with Tennessee and Notre Dame on the schedule next year.
But I do not expect a drop off or dip from the last few years - hopefully we can get to 7 or 8 wins next year and start climbing afterwards.
Full sweep on offensive staff, Burden may get an interview
It was reported yesterday that Burden may get an interview to retain connections to the 757. I was hoping SS would be retained as recruiting coordinator but that doesn't look likely
I love it. While winning VA is a priority, I've always wished we stepped out and went a little bigger and more widespread in our recruiting efforts.
VT's players do not fit Fuente's system
see...the great thing about Fuente is he doesn't have a 'system' offense that he has to plug certain players into. He doesn't have to force players into certain roles. There is no "square peg, round hole" issue with Fuente's philosophy. He has said that he molds his offense to the available talents. I don't think we have to worry about waiting for Fuente to get "his guys" in the "system." He won't have a whole heck of a lot of time to work with the guys he has before September but I'm sure over the next year the offense will really take shape in a positive way. It's not going to be pretty at first. We'll be riding Foster's defense for the first several games of the season. Fortunately we have a pretty easy schedule and I think our record will benefit from that. I think this offense will be built faster than you may think, though. I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the season we're scoring 35-40 points per game. (I do want to make it clear that this is NOT my expectation).
Fuente started at Illinois State running a pro style, I formation offense. He adopted the up tempo spread when he moved to TCU. He has enough knowledge of multiple offensive philosophies and enough experience to take advantage of that knowledge given what he has to work with to get the best out of the players on the roster. I have full confidence in his ability to maximize production with the current players. I can't imagine it's going to look very good early on. I doubt if we're able to beat Tennessee. We could very easily start 2-2 or 1-3 but I think the offense will start to come into its own half way through the season and we'll finish the season strong.

ACC has been put on notice this week. Hokies are coming, and they aren't going to be your Daddy's Hokies. These are going to be big, scary carnivorous turkeysauruses with razor sharp beaks and talons.

# | En Fuente-> 2016 Recruiting Rampage - TONS of offers so far It will be interesting to see how Fuente & Co. approach recruiting. I tend to think that he will try to pull in recruits from areas where he has an established presence/pipeline, while getting up to speed in VA and the Mid-Atlantic. Given the amount of homegrown talent, he will undoubtedly want to work his way into the traditional VT target schools, but seeing some midwest kids in the meantime could be interesting, and perhaps expand us to a more national strategy. Interesting times.

We're pairing a defensive coach who routinely puts out Top 20 defenses, that has had multiple stretches of Top 5-10 defenses for consecutive seasons, with an offensive coach who went into one of the worst situations in football and quickly turned it into a Top 10 offense.
The thought of pairing a Top 10 offense with a Bud Foster defense that put up Top 10 numbers in the worst of our bad offensive years is... I mean, how can you not think this is a complete home run for us? This hire gives us the potential to legitimately contend for National Championships within 5 years. There is potential here to legitimately create an unstoppable beast.
14 - 3 in favor of VT becomes 31 - 3 in favor of VT very quickly.
These are good posts by Alum and Leonard. I saw some other posts earlier about breaking in new QB, etc. Yes that will be a factor, but consider this:
For the first 1/2 of the season, no one knows what VT offense will be like and how to scheme for it. Sure, people can use some MU and TCU tape, but that isn't with our personnel - and Coach JCF said he will adapt his offense to the personnel he has. We can sneak up on UT and .... dare I say it ... ECU (man I really can't stand saying we will "sneak up" on them. Ppfffttt!).
