My biggest problem is this: how do you define that change? What would you change about what we're doing now that does not simply amount to "do it better?" I haven't heard a whole lot of solid ideas aside from "get a better offense." That's what frustrates me about the argument. Bud gets slammed for making these kinds of statements mostly because people twist what he's saying. We need to get better overall, and the recruiting staff isn't the end of those ideas, but it's a demonstration that Bud is not happy with the status quo, contrary to what was stated above.
VT needs some kind of change, and I think it's more than adding recruiting support staff.
Hookers and blow.
to be honest if your a first round draft pick it's always the smart move.
Or you could buy a 3 million dollar house and 10 cars and be back where you were in high school after 5 years......just saying there are options. /s
That would be interesting. Annual games of Foster's D Teams against Clemson and FSU offenses. Plus BC and an occasional GT match up still
Part of that culture is Recruiting, when asked Foster believes VT Recruiting is just fine.
Where are you getting this? Bud said:
"I don't think this program needs a culture change," Foster added Monday evening. "We can do some things a little bit better. We got to win the state in recruiting. We got to get that back. We got good kids, we got a good program. We're close to getting it back where we want to be.
"Recruiting's the key. We got to get back to winning our state. When we did that, we were a top ten football team. We haven't the last few years, we got the top kids have left the state. Then all of a sudden, we've become just a little bit above average. Where you get a couple of guys who are difference makers and the next thing you know you're winning 9, 10, 11 football games. That's where we got to get back to doing that."

VT does not need a culture change. VT culture, as I see it, is:
1. Hard-nosed, aggressive defense.
2. Ball-control offense with a strong running game.
3. Efficient and effective special teams.
4. Recruiting players of good character and good ability within the chosen schemes.
5. Success on and off the field.
These ideas do not need to change. Our ability to effectively and efficiently achieve them needs to improve. Not change. Bud says it above - we did some things well when we were winning, and they have tailed off. That needs to be improved. Bud was one that pushed for better recruiting support staff after the visit to Ole Miss. We have made some significant hires in that area in recent years. But that means we're catching up with everyone instead of leading. We're still getting good players, but haven't cracked the top in-state talent and the 5* recruiticorns that we're after. That's a function of not winning much recently as much as anything else, including Beamer's looming retirement, which is now a done deal and we're moving on. Recruiting misses from about 2010 onward are to blame for where we are. Talent deficit = degrading results on the field. Just as it has taken 4-5 years to see how that affected us, I suspect it will take 4-5 to fix it. We're starting to do it already but we're not quite there.
I mean.... New head coach who will be implementing a whole new system and you currently don't know who your defensive coordinator will be next year. If he's leaning towards leaving, can you really blame him? Its the smart career move.
Then you put almost the entire rest of it into the care of a trustworthy wealth management company and allow them to invest your money. With an NFL 1st round signing bonus, you could easily generate a monthly income without eating into your base investment to never have to work a day again for the rest of your life, no matter how quickly your NFL career is cut short.
Part of the fan base has vacillated between "HIRE HIM NOW" and "FIRE HIM NOW" depending on whether or not our mike linebacker made or missed his last tackle.
I laughed at this hard enough to wake a teenager. Great stuff.
Why are you afraid to give Bud a shot at HC?
Bud Foster on the Hokies: 'I don't think this program needs a culture change'
I want a new program that wants to set it's culture on highly exceeding where it is right now. Part of that culture is Recruiting, when asked Foster believes VT Recruiting is just fine. That is part of the culture that needs to change the most of the head Coach.
seeing the change Clemson has made since our game against them, a matchup of 2 good teams, they have out recruited us in an SEC State, against an SEC Hall of Fame Coach, but more importantly not staying in state. Not counting thier best years - in 2013 & 2014 Clemson recruited Top 20 classes with 43 commits and 12 coming instate
Foster has been a great DC, but through multiple interviews never got a HC job, for whatever reason.
Am I missing something? He's scruffy in October and clean shaven in November... That's like the opposite of what you're supposed to do.
Yeah can't disagree with you on that. I was more speaking from personal experience; he's always been cool when I've hung out with him. I think his problem is (hopefully was) the company he keeps and his recklessness.
If there was ever a game for us to earn the nickname "chokies", it was that. Michigan broke a record for least amount of yards for a winning team in a BCS bowl game. Kicking was far from the problem especially when our backup played so well.
You misspelled.
It's StallynZ.
That's why we don't get players from them.

Appreciate you sharing the info. You can find the original report or article by clicking the link in the bolt.
Gotcha, I'll keep that in mind. I'm on my phone so I was having some trouble figuring out what I was doing. Haha thanks for editing it though!
+1 agree w/that order
I'd love for him to stay- but I think it was pretty much a lock that he was gone. Most of VT's kids are usually close to graduating at the end of their junior year anyway because of taking summer classes.
To me, any kid who gets a first round grade who doesn't come out (unless you just don't care about being an NFL player) is making a mistake. Get paid to live your dream, and be smart. When you get that first signing bonus, the first thing you should do is take enough to cover tuition, room, and board to finish school and put it in a savings account. Then enjoy your career.
HokieHarris13 (and everyone else), please link and cite original articles and reports. More often than not, the 247Sports' Bolts are repackaged clickbait. I updated the original post to link to the actual ESPN article and quoted the section on Fuller.
Also, this isn't a report. It's the author's, David M. Hale, opinion on the matter (which very well may be true).
#Hokies spokesman says Kendall Fuller will not be part of Sat's senior day ceremonies. NFL scouts I spoke to last week expect him to go pro.— Mike Barber (@RTD_MikeBarber) November 17, 2015
Yeah...I was really hoping he would stay...

Thanks for the reality check.
Hate it, but very understandable.
I don't think he would. First round talent last year, this year, and next year. If TG stays that would be beneficial to him. Three brothers in the NFL no need for money to leave early. Plus I'm sure mama Fuller wants her youngest to get a degree. My question is Kendall may get a good draft grade but essentially he has only played two years for us. So would teams question his durability?
As noted, I think even when the Hokies use 2 tight end personnel, they will have Rainey in at outside linebacker. With both Kiser and Blanding playing to the field side, Loeffler better hammer his best short-side running play.

After losing last night Texas is going to start getting a lot of rumors.
