You're right, guys like Saban and Meyer actually spend the whole season visiting various high schools, in-home visits, calling recruits, etc. Its a miracle they even show up on the sidelines for their football games.
I guess they just recruit so many five star guys that the coaches can just worry about recruiting and the players coach themselves.
Hardly, anyone can see he's not the QB he once was. Doesn't make him bad, but he's definitely gone from one of the greatest to just good in the last few years.

We're barely a top 40 class right now. If we close with haskins, Dickerson, Patrick jones and merritt i'd agree we may get up to top 30, but that's counting on the staff closing on 3 of our 4 highest rated guys left including a top 100 kid in Dickerson with some major offers. Hope like hell it happens, but if history is any indicator we may be lucky to land two of them.

Ya i'm agreeing with you. Let's face it VT is never going to land top 10 classes etc. but in addition to finding guys that are "fits" for our scheme and some under evaluated guys we have to supplement that with some explosive athletes and quit missing on the elite guys from VA. I still think our DE depth is awful and we've missed out on at least 5 kids in the last few cycles that were consensus top 250 DEs and we were considered leans at one point. Have to start closing and it starts well before NSD.
That's fine. Some people, speaking mainly for myself I guess, just don't need to only post comments acting like VT football is something more than a .500ish program the last 3 years. Wish it wasn't the case, but it's the reality we're in.
As far as recruiting I wish the staff would get "fired up" about it more than 5 months before NSD.
His throws don't look as crisp, his decisions take longer, granted an average Peyton is better than a lot of the league he is still clearly feeling his age and injuries.
Honestly, you just described grad school everywhere. You will take, at maximum, 2 interesting classes and the rest will be terrible, because people are focused on their research, which when you think about it, usually winds up being some esoteric niche in a very specific field. The grant thing is true everywhere. Funding right now is abysmal, and even established PIs can't get money for things they've built their careers doing, so it's all the bottom line. Write to your congressperson and complain that they're not giving NSF and NIH enough money. Not sure what the other "requirements" are that are bugging you, but if it's anything like my experience at VT, it was irrelevant seminars, TAing, and a variety of random things that turn up that your PI doesn't want to do so he/she pawns it off on you as a "learning experience."
Bottom line: you're not alone.

We will probably finish with a top 25-30 class which is around where we always do. The higher the rank of a player the closer it seems they go to signing day before announcing. We have a couple guys that really should get a bump up to 4 star. The season will also determine if we get a few others.
Example: if Maryland wets the bed this season and Haskins goes elsewhere we may end up flipping Tino.
If Alabama cools on Yulee we may very well be in place to have him come here.
I know that's spot of ifs but that's how recruiting is.

Wow, 256 yards, 3 TD's (including one to tie the game in the final minute) and an INT... If this is Last Legs I'd say it still could be a good season for the broncos.
I think a lot of the hiccups are due to Peyton trying to work within the Kubiak offense and a completely new offensive line.
Just a thought, but sometimes a 5* doesn't fit the system we have. So we shouldn't pick them just because.
In addition look at some of the top rated recruits we missed on and ones we got, that did diddly. I believe it has been posted before somewhere on TKP (especially since stars and recruiting seems to be a constant discussion) the stats of which top rated recruits actually became contributors. Not always a guarantee.
I was there for a weekend in April. First night I went to Shady Grove, which is primarily outdoor seating and had good food, but the wait was kinda long. The second night, I started out with the famed purple margaritas from baby a's (I think this is a quintessential Austin experience, and I'm not sure why else one would go there, but I can attest to the margaritas being both strong and purple). I wound up at Shakespeare's on 6th street where pitchers of long island ice tea were $5 and I had a real good night. I think the next day we went to Banger's which was great and in a really cool part of town (2nd street district I think?). Looked like there were a lot of good places in that area. There were a handful of other places we went, but I can't remember them at the moment.
The places that I didn't get to go that were recommended by friends who live there were Franklin's BBQ, and Hopdoddy's, which is supposed to have some incredible burgers. Both of these places will require waiting in line, especially Franklin's, from what I saw/was told.
There are also a fair amount of river-adjacent parks and sidewalks, and kayaking on Lady Bird Lake is a nice change of pace from the bar & restaurant scene.
Not really specific to Austin, but I also went to Top Golf there, and that was a blast. Oh and Roundrock Donuts is good.
Really, it's tough to go wrong anywhere you go; Austin is pretty much a sprawling sea of establishments that serve good food and beer. It's everything it's hyped up to be.
Because that's totally how college football works in the 21st century

If the coaches worry too much about recruiting right now you can add 2015 to the list. Worry about recruiting is stupid when there are games coming up that we need to win.
