Watching Trey Edmunds is painful. Ride JC and McMillan.
Like someone in the live game thread said, hitting a receiver in stride is hitting a receiver in stride. Regardless of the level of the opponent, Motley's balls were exactly where they needed to be. That proves that Motley can be a passing QB. Will it be more difficult to make reads against a better defense? Absolutely. But his performance against Furman proved that Motley does indeed have the skill set to be a QB in Lefty's scheme and not just a wildcat QB.
2014: Lost to UCLA 28-20, beat Louisville.
2013: Beat BYU.
2012: Beat Penn State (eh), hung around @ TCU (27-7).
2011: Beat Indiana, lost to Southern Miss in a close game (Southern Miss went 12-2 and was ranked #19 to end the season).
2010: Lost to USCw by a FG.
So yeah, you could say there is a precedent for a late season collapse.
What he said.
I applauded the slow introduction of Lawson as smart. A snap here, a snap there, nothing to stall a drive. I think the first time, when Motley lost his helmet may have sparked the idea but I think it worked.
I suspect, the opportunity was taken to coach each guy as they came off the field for the next play.
The coaching has impressed me as well the play calling in both games was excellent. We are going to have an offense as soon as we get settled in with Motley.
Either loluva has a great qb/receiving corp or ND secondary is terrible (or were playing terribly).
It's week 2 and Shai hadn't seen game action since almost a year ago. I say let's all just be patient and see what happens. Coaches are probably just inching him into the rotation. Feels good to have 4 guys who could all legitimately start if called upon.
Hokie fans - I created an account here so I could drop you all a line to say thanks. My wife and a couple friends - all of us Buckeyes - traveled to Blacksburg from NYC and DC. We knew you had a reputation for a great stadium environment and passionate, football-intelligent fans. We didn't know how well we would be received as visiting fans. We had a great time, arriving Sunday afternoon at an AirBnB. Our hosts were Hokie fans of course and were very hospitable. Everywhere we went Hokies were welcoming and very friendly, inviting us to their tailgates, providing us with adult beverages, etc.. We're all VA Tech fans now. Thanks for the great experience.
I guess the backup QB at ECU is pretty good. Blake Kemp threw for 333 yards & 3 TDs against Florida.
Even if the Gators' coach was embarrassed by his team's performance, putting up those kind of numbers against an SEC defense is impressive to me. Hope our secondary is firing on all cylinders by the time we play ECU!
The real question is, did BYU kick him out of school for that...
How soon before that pic of the UVA fan on the back of the horse is someone's logo on here? Classic!
Not to pile on UVA, but why would there not be safety help on the one deep treat playmaker ND has on the field...
Right there with you. Motley's done nothing to not get his shot. I thought it was clear Lawson has more upside, but he's not ready yet. Motley is.
^^This.
I think the last couple of seasons have started the same way. Outlook not too good, they have some halfway decent plays, start looking like they might be dangerous, but still limp into November needing 2 or 3 wins for a bowl.
But it does give these guys the chance to actually play in front of a crowd, with commercial time out refs dictating starts and stops, dealing with the nervousness, getting hit for real, coaches not standing 5 ft behind them making technique adjustments after every play, hitting WRs truly in stride while awaiting getting hit by the blitz.....
The game played out exactly as I expected except I completely applaud the injection of Lawson in for single snaps. Trying to get him slow rolled into CFBall but not stalling drives.
I applaud the coaches on a good job of installing confidence and timing into Motley while introducing the other guys and having a full quarter to get everyone playing experience.
I expect to start a little quicker against Purdue next week and to keep this ball rolling.
Good job overall.
Regarding theRB's:
After seeing Travon run, and also seeing JCC attack the line this season I wonder why Shai isn't redshirting?
It would be one thing if he looked like he did last year, but he looked noticeably slower (as many have mentioned) and we already have 3 capable backs in front of him. I have to question the logic of SB and SL burning a year of eligibility on a promising RB when he is clearly not a 100% and will get limited playing time?
that's actually the second time this season UVa got burned by a Fuller...Devin Fuller had a nice game for UCLA in the first week (6 rec 44 yards and a touchdown)...granted that game wasn't as close as this one but it seems to be a trend. there'll be a third instance later on this year.
Luck of the Irish whacks the Hoos! Sweet!
those mormons will flat get after ya (nutsack)
I wasn't terribly worried or surprised about our slow start on offense. Now had things not started to really click after Halftime, that would have been different. Regardless of the opponent, I really think the coaches and players deserve a good deal of credit for how they rebounded from Monday night.
On to Purdue, GO HOKIES
if you ain't first, you're last?
Glad UVA lost but was surprised how close that game was. Perhaps this is enough to keep timecop on for a few more years.
He's getting his backside spanked.
50 shades of UVA.
I just hope we blow the doors off their hinges when we play Uva and start changing the minds of these highly touted recruits that choose Uva over us. That's all I want.
The things we would be able to do with the in state talent...Ugh.
Granted, I know we lose a lot to outside teams as well, but I feel like if we were to at least get the ones that go to Uva...we'd have a bit more success, and would eventually start locking Va down for the *most* part.
I thought the guy having a full-on stomping temper tantrum on the hill was great. My highlight of the day.
Best part of my day.........and it was already an awesome weekend!

Yeah, Notre Dame's backup QB led a come-from-behind victory against powerhouse UVA, and our backup QB can't get us a win against a pushover like anOSU? What a joke.
...wait, I think I switched something there.
