A number of differences have been pointed out so I won't rehash those. The similarity to JMU did pop into my mind when I saw the weather forecast. However, I think the biggest difference is that the game against OSU was at home. Having to come back after losing to Boise St in DC making Tuesday an even shorter day had a huge impact. Instead, this time around Tuesday was a complete rest day.
I think you may see VT slightly sluggish out of the gate but they will take care of business against Furman. Don't forget that Motley and the offense have something to prove with Brewer out. That could have a huge impact.

I don't buy that they were trying to run the score up. They went into the 4th Q with an 11-point lead. That's a pick-six and a fumble recovery from losing. So they drove down methodically and scored.
Now they have an 18-point lead. They get the ball back and run-run-run-run-pass (TD).

Their last possession: run-run-run (end of game).
I don't think it was a broken play, I just think Motley had to run away from pressure. I think it was a safety read to either Ford or Phillips from the start.
Lots of that kind of pass play, with a check down to Malleck or Rogers, and always the option to get whatever he can with his legs if all else fails. That's the recipe for success with Motley.

Talking to my Ortho today during a checkup, and we got on the subject of Brewer's collar bone. He says that if they did a pin placement procedure, it's because they feel positive about rapid healing. If all goes well, recovery is usually 4-5 weeks.
I suspect that putting both Ford and Phillips into opposite sides of the corner's zone was what the play was designed to do, to make the corner decide which of the Hokies two best receivers he should cover and leave the other one open.

weird seeing mostly good execution mixed with the occasional fck up. unfortunately on the two biggest negative plays of the 3rd quarter - brewer's injury and JCC's fumble were obvious fck-ups by the OL.
#1 was Gallo not trusting JCC to blitz pickup and leaving Conte with a terrible angle on their DT and
#2 was two pulling OL blocking air as OSU's LB's flowed past them and hit JCC from 2 different angles as he was being dragged down.
All that being said, the offensive line looks be to be going in the right direction and if I only had 2 words to describe their performance against that front 7 it would be...
