Except it's our FCS game. Yeah, any of the QBs could use the playing time, but this is the best time to get looks at everyone.

That's akin to saying a WR is only good when the ball is thrown perfectly to him. We need playmakers.
I can't imagine we see 3 QBs this week. That is not Frank's style to switch QBs. He barely did it last year with Brewer struggling with injuries. If Lawson beats out Durkin for the #2 then we see him. But it sounds like Lawson has not done that yet.

My reason for proposing it is that the chance of tying games is diminished significantly.
Five were on the actual 53-man for Atlanta in 05. Keion Carpenter, Kevin McCadam, Vick, Matt Lehr, and Deangelo Hall. Far as I know, that is the actual record high.
We've had a lot of "almosts" against the #1's of college football, but until last season we never got over the hump.
Sadly, they weren't the #1 at that point. :(

The poor guy was put in the worst spot. We were doing well with Brewer, then all that hope was snatched away and Motley got thrown into the shark tank. The optics of the situation are just tough for him. Losing Brewer is going to hurt, but I do have hope that Motley's athleticism will help us hold on.

I just wonder if the same people calling for Lawson to play are going to call for Frank/Loeffler's head if we play him, he plays like a true freshman typically does (i.e., not well), we lose a bunch of games, etc.
Does playing Lawson "because he's supposed to be the man next year" excuse any and all performance on the field this year? I'd rather see us try and play whoever gives us the best chance to win now. Sitting on the bench/in meeting rooms doesn't exactly harm a young QBs development (e.g., Aaron Rodgers, anyone?)...
Firman is not as good, especially defensively, as William and Mary was last year. Take that for what it is worth.
I mean, after watching what he did Monday, it is concerning but I am not going to put all my eggs in that basket on judging his play. Now if he comes out against Furman, gets sacked a lot due to holding the ball long, throws multiple picks, etc, THEN I will absolutely be worried. But right now, I feel like people are bashing him and his play before even seeing what he can do.
I see it an issue more on the field; their starters get a rest without much of a drop-off, while ours are gassed later in the game because of playing every snap.

I have some - just not a lot. I feel like I've seen what he can do. I like his mobility, but seeing the field and delivering a strike will present challenges.
Why does everyone have such little faith in Mot? Everyone has become a QB expert after watching him play less than 1 half of football. 1 half of football in which he was thrown to the wolves, down in the game, against the best team in the country.
Not only that, everyone wants Lawson to play. We just found out that Beamer wasn't intending to redshirt Lawson yet, so him being #3 on the depth chart means the coaches think he is the 3rd best quarterback on this team right now (before brewer injury).
Let's have a little faith in Motley and stop calling for the "Prodigy" to be thrown into the mix just to do it.
Considering this is the first QB injury that lasted more than a game (since Vick?) we have been blessed. The 10-win season streak would have ended quickly considering our historic lack of depth at the position, and probably our bowl win streak as well.
But you do play a doctor in real life and you probably stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night!
It wasn't as bad of a decision to make the throw as it looks initially. In the part of the replay that focuses on the receivers and DBs, the corner who is initially covering Ford pulls off to cover Cam Phillips who has been released by the corner that starts off covering Phillips in the slot. (it looked like Sam Rogers was leaking out into the flat and the corner was moving up to cover him).
When Ford settles into the open spot in the zone and calls for the ball, there is about a 5-7 yard gap between him and the corner who was initially covering him, but is now trying to split the distance between Ford and Phillips. I suspect that putting both Ford and Phillips into opposite sides of the corner's zone was what the play was designed to do, to make the corner decide which of the Hokies two best receivers he should cover and leave the other one open.
In this second image below the ball is already in the air, visible as a brown blur near the sideline at the 4 yard line, and Ford has gained even more separation from the DB who has (what looks like) the deep 3rd, it appears to be about 8-10 yards when the ball is thrown. #7 for anOSU looks to be in the best position to affect the play, but his momentum is a little too east-west and he ends up running in a bit of an arc towards the play and can't get there in time. The DB who appears to have the deep 3rd makes a very athletic attempt to get back to the ball and is actually closer than #7 when Ford makes the catch, but he has to change direction and close about 8-10 yards in the time the ball is in the air.
Overall, I think it was a pretty good decision by Motley, the corner seemed to be a little more focused on Phillips than Ford prior to the throw, and it only looks like he was throwing into tight coverage because the secondary closes on Ford very quickly.
