One quick observation: most of the defensive starters were taken out by early 4th Q, didn't notice whether that was the case on offense. Think we were just trying to get out alive after OSU caught momentum
I meant that more of what the offense could/would look like with him as the starter.
You can't check names on tickets because the only name on there is that of the original ticket holder. They could put in a system that requires tickets to be scanned again to enter the bleachers so that duplicates aren't allowed.
I didn't myself, but others did. They probably knew before any angry emails got to them anyways, pretty hard to miss a bunch of fallen rows.
Very different failure from the rows I saw. It was the bolt holes on that L bracket on the underside of the seat that failed, down the entire row.
I am taking the "wait and see" approach on this one. I have no idea what the OC might have planned.
Malleck and Rodgers got open, but not so much Hodges...

Calling Durkin "Logan Thomas 2.0" doesn't do him justice. It is like whenever a fast QB is called "The next Vick".
Motley is going to have the best chance at running the entire offense effectively while limiting mistakes. He will be the starter while durkin or lawson does change of pace.
And you can bet your @$$ Coach Meyer was trying to put 60 on the board in Lane Stadium. Nobody's happy allowing 42, especially not Bud Foster. But, OSU will put up HUGE numbers on many teams this season. That's a fact.
Mostly I agree with your list, minus #2.
If you want to run the ball, then let a running back do the work, that's what they're for. I don't think Motley has the skills to be an effective QB throwing the ball, and this basically takes our best players on offense out of the equation. I know his skill-set is running, but do we really want our only QB option taking multiple hits per game? That seems like a good way to get our third and fourth QB options on the field in a hurry. It sounds like Loeffler even made note of not putting Motley in situations where he would get hit a lot last night. We can't really throw effectively with Brewer out, so we're one-dimensional until Motley can improve his reads and progressions. Will he improve? I hope so, but at this point in his career he hasn't. Teams saw that last night, and I imagine they made note of OSU committing to stop the run with a total disregard for our passing game.
The only way out of this hole is to continue to pound the rock for those ugly yards, sprinkle in some play-action shots, and win with a stifling defense. We'll have to slug it out with some low-scoring games, so let our stable of backs take the pounding. I imagine the playbook gets even more bland and predictable with less experienced QBs at the helm. My two cents...
With that being said, the coaches will have to adjust, so I see Motley getting a larger number of carries/scrambles per game. It's inevitable, they want to win. Hopefully the coaches find/develop a passing game that Motley can execute.
I am going to leave the decision on who to start and who to play to the coaches. Frank Beamer and Whit Babcock trust them to do their jobs and select the correct kid to play. They know a lot more about Motley/Durkin/Lawson than I do and are paid to know more.
Motley was prepared for the game to have a substitute package. He did well for the most part as that substitute. But he was not prepared for the big game. To my knowledge he was the #2, not just because he has already redshirted but because he was playing significantly better than Lawson in the fall practice.
We all need to relax and let the coaches and players prepare for Furman. We will find out more on Saturday at 3:30. See you there.

Your D-line is what impressed me the most though. Last year I was under the impression that the only reason we lost was because of our O-line being so inexperienced and having to face an exotic Bud Foster defensive scheme. This year I knew our O-line was coming in as one of the best units in the country so I thought we would roll this time around. While there was definite improvement this year, your D-lineman ended up in the backfield and getting a good push off the line more times than I remember the vaunted Alabama line getting through in the Sugar bowl this past January
I'm glad to see OSU fans acknowledging our really top-notch D-line. I know it was frustrating for Hokie fans leading up to this game with OSU, as we saw many references by OSU fans to exactly what you admitted. Rather than credit to VT for the 2014 performance, it always seemed to lead back to a "young/inexperienced OSU O-line" as the reason for VT's D-line success in 2014. Or, that OSU wasn't prepared for the Bear scheme.
Certainly the scheme is part of the story -- and part of what gets Coach Foster the accolades he deserves. But, he also coaches those guys up like nobody's business. Our D-line was giving up easily 30-40 lbs per man to OSU's line. But, the quickness and technique closed that gap in size quite well.
Now, if only our O-line (who played a pretty good game, really) hadn't let your star DL pile drive Brewer into the home turf. That was it. Game. Set. Match. As I wrote in my post just above yours, I don't think we would have won that game. But, with Brewer in, I believe we had a fighting chance well into the 4th. Which, isn't bad considering we were playing the unanimous #1 and all....

I agree, and I think that is why Lawson has to be the choice. From what we have seen, does it seem reasonable that Motley will lead this team to where Hokie nation is hoping we can get to? Thats not a knock on the kid, but if you can't throw the football in today's game you are done. And maybe he can. Maybe playcalling has held that aspect of his game back. But his high school career and the eye test suggest there is a reason he doesn't throw a lot.
If we start Lawson all year and don't make a bowl but he learns how to play, thats OK by me. The fact notwithstanding that if he learns how to be a good college QB its highly likely we at least make a bowl game given his talents coming out of HS. Miami, FSU and OSU wern't recruiting him for shits and giggles.

He knew he would be seeing the field last night. This is what concerns me most. He knew he was going to be in eventually, but didn't seem ready at all when it actually happened.
I agree, osu is the unanimous #1 team in the country and I'm sure motley didn't think he would see the field. He was thrown in the fire against the defending natl champs, that's a tough deal for any backup qb, durkin wouldn't have done any better. Motley is an athlete, he just confidence and Furman may be just what the dr ordered, give the guy a chance.

Just wanted to say I agree - start Lawson. Coach him up. Outta to be able to get enough out of him to beat Furman. Coach him some more. Same for Purdue. Lather rinse repeat for ECU.
By then, if he's got the raw talent they say he's got, he ought to be able to give us as good if not better than anyone else we can throw in there based on on-field performance.
That said, for Motley and Durkin, I'm sure they're good kids. It's nothing personal, but the team needs more than what Motley showed when he came in full time. It's not about Motley, Durkin, or even Lawson to be honest. It's about the other players on the team, coaches, support staff, and fans that pour their souls into the team. I know Lawson will be a tougher coaching job RIGHT NOW, but hey, this is part of the job.
Now I'm gonna go cheer for the one they put in as much as I can, no matter who it is.
Well whatever, let's hope Beamer pulls a Meyer and doesn't announce until the first snap Saturday. Keep Furman guessing.
This season cannot be a wash. At the absolute very least we have to use this season to set us up for next year. But we have the talent to win the Coastal and should things break right win the ACC. That is our goal. I love Brewer and it sucks he's out but next man up. If we don't have a QB on this roster who can competently lead this talented roster behind a seriously improved OL that had all has multiple years of learning under one coach then we were never as good as we thought we were.
The problem with starting Lawson is that we aren't running a Stinespring offense anymore. We can't throw Lawson in the game and tell him "if the hot read isn't open, just make shit up and run around". Our offense is currently not designed to be easy to understand and pick up. Lawson won't even see as much success as Tyrod Taylor did his freshman year, even if we make the assumption that they possess the same skill level, which is doubtful because Tyrod was a 5*.
