Their is a reason Lawson was behind Motley on the depth chart. In the fall scrimmages it was clear Brewer > Motley> Lawson.
Trayvon showed me something, but Trey's game was very disappointing. I thought he had poor vision all game. I think Shai supplants Trey quickly, and McMillian might do the same.
Last night showed why Malleck is TE1.
That one catch over the middle was stupid impressive

JC actually looked explosive with good aggressiveness, and McMillan needs more touches as the #2. When Shai and Marshawn are healthy, Trey will be a non-factor anyways so just phase him out now. The guy was tip-toeing all game, had no power, and looked slow.
After the 1st half, Brewer looked like he was poised to have a lot of improvement this year and he was taking care of the ball. Motley is not a #1, and I'd like to see Lawson and/or Durkin get a shot. With Furman this week it is a great opportunity to break-in a young QB. Lawson needs in-game experience NOW, and with Josh Jackson coming next year there really is no need to redshirt Lawson.
Motuapuaka was also terrible last night, and I'd like to see some competition there. He was getting washed all game and not filling gaps with any authority. Our D was good in short stints, but they were inconsistent and gave up big plays all game. Cardale Jones only had 9 completions but still had 186 yard which is 20+ yards per completion and both Elliott and Miller averaged 10+ yards per carry - not good.

I seem to recall Fowler commenting towards the end of the game that the defense had him "bottled up" or something similar. I'm guessing they game-planned to make him a non-factor, and actually had the athletes on defense to do so. Opened up Malleck quite a bit, which was nice, but not enough.
I kinda agree with Kramer here. The comment about Cardel not having a brain was uncalled for. I happen to be a fan of his. Seems like a fun guy who enjoys life and doesn't take himself too seriously.
For the Hokies who have a problem with trash talk, let's not forget some of James Gayles (fucking awesome) tweets about UVA football. We weren't calling him immature or saying he didn't have a brain.
I was going to ask that question, but then I figured it probably doesn't matter. The throwing motion carries across the entire chest during the follow through. Not like a non-throwing arm injury.
They went to him early and he dropped the ball, but I don't remember that many additional passes his way.

FWIW still think we can get to 8-9 wins even with brewer out, but it's going to take a hell of an effort from the coaches.
This season is when we get to see what Lefty has. OK the starter went down but he has multiple guys backing him up who have multiple years of system training, we have what should be a solid OL blocking, good depth at RB and TE and 2 playmaker at WR. And we just brought in our best QB recruit since Tyrod. It's time to put up or shut up, so to speak.
aOSU was trying to score 40 in the second half, we didn't let them.
I was surprised at the lack of involvement of Bucky Hodges.. I'd have to go back and watch analytically rather than emotionally to see why.
I'm happy someone else noticed this. Looking for a knowledgeable opinion - Did OSU shut him down, or were plays not designed for him, or what?

Take the DL performance with a grain of salt. Their OL greatly improved last year and it showed. Cardale was rolling quickly and did make a lot of jukes in the backfield. We did bring him down for a loss at least three times last night, normally sacks but he was running it.
Our DL second string was not as good as I thought it would be in the 4th. But so many things were going wrong then.
Both Ford and Hodges both had the dropsies. Hodges needs to fix that in a hurry or he is going to drop to third string TE behind Malleck and Cline.
Well this is Cardale's first victory against an unranked team. And his first road game. He hasn't really been there...

# | Bitter blog - Five thoughts after the Hokies' loss to No. 1 Ohio State They reminded me of UNC basketball fans. Didn't make much noise at all until the very end when the decision was in hand, then the bad eggs turn really sour and go out of their way to rub it in.
At the end of the day, the ones who are legitimately the bad fans are ones who have nothing else going on for them in their lives. And as a whole, I kind of got the feeling they weren't really happy with the game until they were up a bunch late, which just seems like a miserable way to go about games.
Yea the tweets were pretty insulting last night. You're the defending national champs playing an unranked team. Act like you've been there before.
Honestly, I wasn't mad until I saw Cardale and Mike Thomas' tweets after the game. However, I was immediately disappointed when I saw Brewer go down. Our offense hadn't looked that sharp in a long time and regardless of the outcome last night, a healthy Brewer leading our team looked like we were in for a strong season. Sad to see him go down like that, such a tough kid.
Was hoping for an atmosphere that rivaled the BCA GT game in 2000 when I felt entire East side shaking under our feet to the long lost kick-off drum cadence before the heavens unleashed.... While this was a great atmosphere, the GT '00 atmosphere is still #1 in my book.
The same thing applies to what I thought about the lone Ohio State fan near me in the student section. It's really easy to gloat and brag in an enemy stadium when you know you're the best team in the country and you're winning. The same people would've been completely silent if they lost, and were at halftime when we were winning. It's just being a bad fan.
Good luck OSU. Beat Michigan. Can we borrow a qb?
