If you ask me, Motley last night looked better than Leal did in '13, for what it's worth.
The problem was that the team went way too conservative trying not to get Motley hurt, and he took some sacks and made some throws he shouldn't have in the beginning. When he got loose (too late in the game for it to matter), he showed a little something.
This is my impression from having slept on it a bit.
Enjoy VT football very much. Just don't see the need to hype up things I don't think are realistic. Do you still think we have an elite defense, a top 5 DL and secondary?
I didn't expect to win that game, predicted a 30-19 loss. Definitely didn't expect to be gashed so badly as we were on defense though. I thought the offense for the most part did ok. Actually think SL made some good adjustments and took advantage of OSU's over pursuit, but it was tough luck for him having brewer go down and we lost all momentum at that point.
FWIW still think we can get to 8-9 wins even with brewer out, but it's going to take a hell of an effort from the coaches.
No one likes to sit in the top of the South. Those are lottery tickets, and students sneak their friends into the North instead of sitting in the South. That was as good a crowd as Lane has seen in many years.
I pooped in the shower and showered in the toilet.
God Bless you Andy
Not a bad situation at all. It was a competitive first half (well really 2nd quarter). I just made the comment that we were lucky to be up at half, which I don't think is an unreasonable comment considering we had just gone 3 and out and were gifted a muffed point. To someone else's point we still capitalized on it.
Were those throwing arms or off-arms?
I thought today was opposite day...
If the half ends 14-10, how is that a bad situation? I'd take 14-10 against the #1 team at the half. Just the cherry on top that it was us in the lead 17-14 instead.
and I used to run a blog calling for the dismissal of our OC.
That was you?
I think we just became BFFs
Yeah. Sure felt like we lost. Must've tailgated a little hard.
I feel better now.
South end zone upper right as you look from the field. I was in top of east, row 5q, and there were lots of empty seats the whole game. As for people coming in late from the top of Eesr we watched the crowds trying to get in all at once and not being able to. We all were commenting that people needed to be there early. A sports photographer came up at 715 and told us he was going to take pictures of the field and stands etc and he got made because they were not filling up fast enough before the sun went down. I expected better for a big game like this that had all the tickets sold out.
I think it was as much to drive home the idea that VT is all about family for the recruits.
EDIT: Thinking about it more the videos seemed to portray him as if he was dead, like a remembrance type of video. Same with Billy Hite.
I guess I'd expect this comment from you. This isn't a jibe or a setup question, I'm honestly curious: do you even enjoy VT football? I don't know if I've ever met someone with as pervasively negative an outlook of the program as you seem to have, and I used to run a blog calling for the dismissal of our OC. I don't get any sense that you actually enjoy being a VT fan. I think our outlooks are so radically different, I'm at a point where I just don't think conversations with you add to my enjoyment of this site. To be honest, I'm not really certain what enjoyment you get out of following the program.
Please understand this isn't a True Hokie rant. I'm not questioning your allegiance to the program. I'm questioning why you're allegiant to the program. I don't get any sense that it brings a sense of joy to your life.
I'll just be giving you a wide berth on the site from now on, because it's pretty obvious your opinion on the program is set in stone. I hope you enjoy the season. Go Hokies.
And you are trying to make it sound like the defense was on the field the whole half, which clearly isn't the case as backed up by actual numbers. We were lucky to be in the lead in the first half. Without the muffed punt how do you think that half ends, honestly? Brewer was still in the game when we lost the lead in the 2nd half and with him I 100% agree it would have been more competitive. Would it have been a loss by less than 10? I doubt it.
After a night to reflect on what happened in the second half...even if the coaches are considering burning Lawson's redshirt, I am glad they didn't do it last night. To toss him in cold against the #1 team in the country, could end up devastating (another injury or just confidence).
I expect in the day, there will be lots of thought on whether or not the redshirt is coming off. If so, Furman should be a good way to ease in and build some confidence. If not, Furman will be a good audition for Motley and Durkin to compete.
Hoping for the best, either way, and wishing Brewer a speedy and full recovery. We will surely miss you while you're healing.
Between there being empty seats( not just seats here and there entire rows were empty
Odd. I was in the stadium 40 minutes prior to kickoff and the place was packed. Not sure I've ever seen it filled up like that so early before kickoff.
In fact, until the outcome was becoming clear, I'd have to say that was one of the best ever environments in Lane history.
I think it's easier said than done. Spend too much time with the twos and threes and your first guy doesn't get enough time. Spend too much with your first guy and the others suffer. It's not an easy situation. Also, if the talent isn't there it's not going to happen no matter how much time you spend with them. I think that's what were seeing here. But also, he was thrown into a bad situation against an amazing team. We'll see how this week pans out.
apparently in this case, the camera takes away 150lbs instead of adding 10.
They're like geese. If you feed themx they'll never leave.
I'd be insanely surprised if any coach prepped all his QBs the same way... on any team, at any level. (Two-QB systems excepted.)
During the broadcast they said both Kendall and Facyson had cramps.
As much as all us Hokie fans would love that, without Brewer, I think we all can see that we are not a playoff caliber team. Thanks for hanging out with us during the offseason. I hope you Buckeyes stick around for awhile. Now that our match is over we can finally start agreeing on things ha
Because their drives took a matter of a few minutes usually...First score of the second half took 1:07. Every scoring drive of there's but the first one was under 3 minutes. The first one took 4. In the second half, they had the ball for 17 minutes, over half of their total TOP. You're just arguing semantics at this point to try and say that we were lucky to be on the same field as them. We played well enough while Brewer was in on both sides of the ball to be able to make this a competitive game. Not so much after we lost him.

Not digging those player tweets.
