I don't think Leal is a near certainty at all. If this was O'Cainspring era then yes I would agree. But I think everyone is equally up for winning the job and the best QB will get the ball. Leal, Motley, Ford, Durkin, McMillian and any transfer.
I would not call that a serious pickle either. I think it's a seriously great position to be in and frankly one that VT has not had for as long as I have been a Hokie, which was 1995. Having multiple good options at QB plus the ability to attract good transfers is something VT is not known for and yet here we are.

Brewer 41-58 440 yards 70% completion rate and 5 TDs and 0 picks with a 160.8 rating in his career.
Wittek 50-95 600 yards 53% completion rate and 3 TDs and 6 picks with a 106.9 rating in his career.
But you can't really judge them so far, although many think Wittek has been a bust so far and if Brewer probably would of started for Texas Tech had he not of gotten injured last year. It's just my opinion that he would be a better option than Wittek, however.
Stephen "Jake" Jacobsen is my insurance agent! He's really nice and I've talked to him a few times about his playing days (played 1977-1981). Just an all around good guy.
I don't foresee any switcheroo's coming. Kohle will identify the real killer, there will be a crazy gunfight at the finish, it will come back to the preacher in some way and it will be sickening.
I think the stunning revelation will just be the depth of sadism in the cult's activities.

But I anticipate they won't find any. Watch in the spring, Leal will be clearly their only option and they will start building up his confidence. Leal winning the the Most Improved Offensive Player Award at the Spring game is a near certainty.
We're in a serious pickle at QB.
How so?
Brewer is a 6'1" 185 lbs, former 3* recruit who has never started a game. His background is in wide-open, spread offenses. He played under Chad Morris.
Wittek is 6'4", 215lbs, former 4* recruit, #3 QB in the country who has started 2 or 3 games in his career. His background is in a more balanced system. He played HS football at Mater Dei, one of the top 3 HS programs in the country.

The 2012 RB platooning frustrated nearly everyone because it didn't allow momentum to build and it set our running game back. Apply that to the most important position on the field, and it'll be exponentially worse. One QB is the only way we have success.
Brewer has reportedly already graduated, so he doesn't have to sit a year. It appears that coaches are looking for alternatives to Leal.

My first inclination was that VT will never have the wide-open offense that piles up the stats that win Biletnekoff awards, but looking over past winners, it's not all wide-open offenses.
Certain Crabtree and Blackmon (who both won 2x) played in spread offenses. I think Oregon State played a spread last year (Cooks won). But, there have also been winners like Golden Tate at ND, Calvin Johnson, Braylon Edwards, Larry Fitzgerald, Carlos Rogers, etc who came from balanced offenses like we anticipate.
So, sure, it's possible. I'm always so shocked at how low the VT season WR records are. Catches: 61 (Boykin), Yards: 962 (Davis), TD's: 9 (Freeman). For comparison, Brandin Cooks had 128 catches for 1730 yards and 16 TD's. That's nearly double every category of what a VT WR has ever produced. Shocking.

I just realized that all Texas Tech QBs put up huge numbers, plus he was coached by Chad Morris in high school. I think he could be a good QB in Loeffler's system.
Well I think in fairness to JJ we only had an 8 man rotation last night (with Beyer as one of those 8), so running man to man would have been rough. Especially for guys like Eddie and Wilson who almost never came out. The troubling part of it was the start of the game on offense. Duke was playing a high pressure full-court man to man press just like VCU and we were have all kinds of trouble even getting a decent look. No off the ball screens.
Does anyone know who is the highest paid WR coach in the country? Because when a VT receiver wins a Biletnikoff Award shits gonna go through the roof.
I completely understand what Coach Johnson was trying to accomplish with the 2-3 zone but its almost pointless against a team like Duke. If Duke's gonna shoot bad from the field and have an off night it will be regardless of the defensive assignment. It's too hard to rebound against Duke in a zone and it showed with their offensive rebounds. Sure we flash out and put a hand in their face, but there were countless times that happened and we were so out of control that the Duke player would just drive right by us.
JJ is playing it safe (with his job on the line) with the zone and just relying on hopefully the other team having an off night. What these young players need is practice in a man to man defense. Knowing when to help, switch, etc is a feeling that is only gained with game experience. The 2-3 zone is being used to hide poor defensive players. I would have rather gotten blown out playing man to man vs Duke then playing it safe especially at this point of the season. Need to get out of this zone (or at least switch back and forth when rest is needed).
So what do we think now after this last episode? I am slightly less buying into the theory that Marty is the Yellow King now, but there are a whole lot of unanswered questions with only 2 episodes left.

I know that right out of college Pace interviewed at CarMax (a family friend interviewed him). I'm not sure if he got the job though.
