We can't hope to have all the context. Unfair to Carson, unfair to VT fans who you make look bad by posting this stuff with no context.
I know words mean nothing and play means everything, but after the interview Ford gave on Wednesday I'm putting him at my early #1. Frank said Mark is much better than he played in El Paso. I believe it. I want an open QB competition and if Mark wins that will be great.
I'm not going to play the "young qb is better for future growth" card. Best player WILL play. But what does Scot want? I think we are all a little confused on the offensive identity he is trying to establish. I will support the player he recruited and will fit the identity he is trying to establish. We've only had Scot about 12 months, and we still got to give it time. I want him to play his guy. Not who he's got.
My thought process at Safety and Nickel was that if we were in situations where we were playing Nickel, Holland would be good enough for Bonner to slide down leaving the best players on the field. and I think I meant Frye, I knew one of the two played last year and I couldn't remember. But thanks, I imagine that the issue with Corey Marshal was that he wanted to end his career as a DE and didn't want to be forced inside for lack of depth, forcing/encouraging the coaches to give him a redshirt year. I see him being a starter at DE for the next 2 years. But we'll never really know what went down.

I would think that the opinion of a legendary head coach who has run a clean program and whose guiding principles are honesty and loyalty would actually matter to people.
Love Ford but Travon McMillan could be a great one. Great athlete, super smart:

When was the last time we had a situation similar to Leal/Ford and who ended up starting?
Was Clayton in the same situation with Logan? Or do we have to go all the way back to Noel/Randall? Granted that is a bit different because Noel was the starter the year before.
Unless the starter throws for 3,500 yards and 30 TDs. Then everyone wins

What if you go from 7-6 to 8-5 because you played Leal over one of the young guns? Is that worth it? Would you trade 1 win for the chance to develop for the future?
Not critiquing, just wondering.
I believe that Mark Leal should have done what Tyrod did against LSU when he was thrown in the fire at death valley. You could tell after the game that Tyrod was a promising talent. I did not see the same thing when Leal replaced LT3 against UCLA. That's why he lost the backing of some of the fan base. I'd say now , the competition is wide open. Itll be interesting to see who comes on top.
I say put in the QB that gives us the best chance to win right now regardless of class. If Leal is our best QB then start him, same goes for Motley, Ford, etc.

I'm curious to see how Ford bulks up this semester. If he adds some more muscle, he may be in line to play earlier. I'm just worried right now he just doesn't have the build to survive a year in the college game.
Modest improvement from last year to this year- some of the skill guys (Stanford, Edmunds, Kline, etc) will have more experience in the system and be ready to go. The QB play will obviously be the limiting factor, but the interesting thing will be how the line develops. If we see more improvement in run blocking from last year to this year, we could see better offensive improvement because you can be sure we'll lean on the running game with a new starting QB.
But don't get your hopes up too terribly much. 2015 will be better!
I think Ekanem beats out Corey Marshall at stud end.
I like this except two things in the secondary.
1) I think Chuck Clark holds down the nickel, even if Fisher is pushing Bonner for playing time, freeing Bonner up for Nickel duty.
2) I don't think it's likely that Greene flips to Rover and beats out Frye. He doesn't really have the size.
