True. But, I don't think Maryland is pulling in all the Maryland talent. According to this Rival's list, UMD pulled in the top 2 in the state, but no others in the top 25. VT pulled #4 and #7 from MD.
For comparison, VT pulled in 7 of the top 16 in VA.
UVA obviously did the best with the top 10, pulling 3 recruits including #2 and #3, but we all know this is simply due to the shady Thoroughbred connection. UVA also pulled #15 and #24 in the state.

I could definitely picture a world where Beamer hates change and didn't want to have to deal with these new coaches. In the past few years it seems he's been more open to change...but I wonder if by then the blood was already bad and it was too late to do anything about it.
I don't know - it certainly seemed to me the Post was painting a pretty negative picture of UVA's recruiting practices, although I agree it is hard to pinpoint what exactly is unethical / wrong about it.

I agree QB play might drop off in the sense that none of these guys will be Logan on day 1, but whoever the QB is will have far better weapons to work with than Logan did, so that might help ease the dropoff.
Yep, the weapons are there now. The two biggest question marks see QB and Loeffler. I just expect a precipitous drop off in QB production over the next toe years. And Loeffler is still a big unknown.

I don't think Beamer was standing by while elite talent went to UVA, I think he was just trying to go the traditional route. Let's realize, Beamer has been coaching a LONG time. It's not outside of the realm of possibility to think that he didn't want to interact with those coaches because he hasn't had to do that in the past. It wouldn't be the first time an established coach is slow to react to a new sporting reality.
Let's assume that the Thouroughbred program isn't dirty (considering there is ZERO EVIDENCE to suggest that it is... literally zero). Put yourself in their shoes... They've been coaching/mentoring these young men for a long time and are finally starting to see their dreams get realized. You're trying to help them out by getting them recognition on a national level at 7x7 tournaments, making highlight videos of them, practicing and training with them all the time. Think about how invested you would be in those players.
Think about how frustrating it would be if the biggest program in the state wouldn't even talk to you because you weren't an "official" HS coach or family. Hell, these coaches are probably bigger influences in a lot of these kids lives than some family members. If the second biggest program accepted you with open arms and treated you like the positive influence in the kids life that you are while the biggest treated you like a shady hustler, of course you would have hurt feelings. Those negative feelings would be even further inflamed if the biggest program insinuated in a book that the type of program you run is dirty.
I don't think it is that much of a stretch to explain this whole situation as a case of the "butt-hurts". These coaches invested a ton of time in recruits, were disrespected (intentionally or not) by one program and welcomed by the other. From there, things snowballed. Having Tech fans call the Thoroughbred program dirty with no evidence AT ALL isn't helping the cause.
Of course, I wouldn't be shocked if down the road it was shown that UVA was paying for recruits. I'm just saying that I can imagine a world in which it's not necessary.
We have no idea if getting 4 or 5 of the top 10 would take the 2014 class from good to great. It could actually do the opposite...let me explain.
In 2010, VT got 4 of the top 10, 7 of the top 16, and 12 of the top 30. The only players with meaningful contributions from class was/is #20 Derrick Hopkins and #26 Caleb Farris. That's it. So basically 0 for 4 w/ the top 10, 0 for 7 w/ the top 16, and 2 for 12 w/ the top 30.
So for all we know, only getting 1 or 2 of the top 10 in VA and getting some high ranked players from other states instead is a blessing in disguise. It certainly couldn't have hurt in 2010.

THIS... Everyone forgets so quickly that Loeffler is a big believer in using the TE as a weapon, and as soon as Malleck went down Loeffler mentioned how big of a loss it was and how Malleck was a huge part of the game plan. I think he is going to have a huge year if a QB can throw the ball.
Sorry that wasnt clear. I actually agree with you. What I meant was that Malleck would come back and we would have 2 TEs that could be on the field at the same time in heavy sets.
I think Malleck will come back and be the number 1 TE. Cline had a great frosh campaign especially only after playing one season before that, but he still has a lot to learn and can get even better. He is going to have a chance to be the number 2 and not be keyed on at all times, so he will have a chance to have another productive year. I would love to see a ton of 2 TE personnel. They can and will both be weapons this year.

I'm reading in between the lines. There's no way the Thoroughbred leaders woke up one day and randomly had a hard on for all things Mike London. They like London because he has a better relationship with them. Meanwhile Frank Beamer writes a book saying he doesn't like the role they are playing in modern recruiting. I'm SHOCKED that they don't appreciate the sentiment.
Does Beamer need to write them checks? Of course not. But if he's planning on going the rest of his career without friendly interaction with a 7 on 7 coach, this may be the best possible recruiting class Tech will see under his leadership.
Exactly. It is always easier to work a guy in to the line of scrimmage as opposed to away from the line of scrimmage. I would say he is a virtual lock to at least start in the secondary.

Hmmm...it seems that great recruiting classes - at least as defined by rivals - does not ensure success. So there must be other factors at play here that are equally (if not more) important than the Rivals rankings...like coaching, luck, talent evaluation...and, god forbid, the notion that the recruiting rankings are a not a quantitative measure of success but rather a collection of nearly entirely biased, subjective, qualitative opinions used to produce a quantitative measure of relative success in the modestly meaningful game of recruiting.
to my understanding settle is somewhat shy and not an extreme extrovert. based on descriptions from other people he tends to be a loyal person but it is really unclear how he is going to react to the whole recruiting process. stroman is extremely close to him
If we can find a great offensive identity and Loeffler and co. can coach players to the potential of the talent that was brought in and that's returning, it may wind up being the offense that wins more than a couple of games this season. ;)

I get the QB ceiling points. I just think its only gonna last 1 year. Loeffler is a QB coach. Look at the QBs he's coached in the past... That's a pretty decent resume. So, I'm gonna lean forward & start the "In Lefty We Trust" movement. Lefty's only gonna get QBs that fit his system & stack 'em like cordwood. I trust him. From the great offensive scheme analysis we've all read here on TKP over the past season. I see a plan. 2014 will be the 1st season with a smidge of his target talent in the mix. Hokies gotta believe!!
