Must have skipped over the bit about Searels before, but I'll say this: It is impossible for him to be anything less than a gigantic step up from Newsome. He's at least coming into a situation where the guys in the program have had a year of legitimate, competent fundamentals coaching and the new guys coming in should be athletic upgrades over most of the current OL in the program.

Kinda related, but then kind of not related: fact I heard today on Mike and Mike and Mike and Mike.

Every single 5* recruit that has signed with Alabama under Saban has gone on to be a 1st round draft pick in the NFL. 5 star guys matter.

In reference to your topic, I think we'll finally see some raw athleticism come out on the offense side of the ball. Hopefully we have a run game, seeing how we signed two highly recruited running backs. I'm on the side that the wheels are rolling in the right direction.

General thought is that we'll start seeing significant improvement in the next 2-3 years.

i would argue many 4 stars are just as good as a 5 star for the college game. 5 stars may just have what it takes to be more "League" ready. i believe it was rivals who actually disclosed that their ratings had less to do with how a player projected at the collegiate level and more to do with their NFL prospects.

now, i recognize that a kid who is NFL material will be a great college player, too, but there are plenty of GREAT college football players who may never even get a shot at the NFL, let alone be a top draft pick.

i think the whole reason they shifted from a 4 star system and added the 5th star was basically to differentiate between the 25-35 kids they thought had a legit shot to be top NFL draft picks in 3-5 years and those who would be great for college, but maybe not project to the NFL just yet as an 18 year old.

The issue is brokering. NCAA limits the contacts college coaches can have with recruits. Apparently no limit on college coaches talking to "others" and recruits talking to those same "others". 7o7 and similar organizations are trying to exploit loopholes by using "others" to make unlimited contacts with recruits. As long as the colleges aren't paying the others (like Oregon did) there does not seem to be a technical violation. Uva may be using some other form of compensation to these organizations or maybe not. It is a gray area. I'm not sure I like these pay for play organizations. Both pros and cons (take that any way you want). They are not just in football. Ever heard of soccer travelling teams? For those that can afford it, it is a way to expose your kids to high level of competition. I think CFB comes from a background where he believes in underdogs and people that do things on their own.

Looking at this past year's 13 NFL Network games, it's barely above 50% divisional. Ironically, the Bills and Browns played each other on one of those games.

Man, I hope he wins the starting job.

Fair enough, I guess I was comparing travel time with a stop or two but that would add a half an hour to all my other distances. Plus I drive slow :-)

For class ranking their point system is out of proportion. They give 200 points for a 5*, 120 for a 4, 40 for 3. A 5* is good but I don't think there is that much difference between a 5 and a 4 or 3. Is a 5* five times better than a 3*?

having not followed 2015 recruiting yet at all...how are our chances looking with Settle? Way too early? Are we in his top 3?
