There were guys at the end of the Maryland bench (as well as some other schools that have come through Cassell) that I would argue, would be starting if they were at Tech right now. Most of that is because of effort and size and not necessarily talent. At this point, this team is just counting down for March 13th so the season would be over with.

Even more depressing...

When reading around at all the comments on this article (both on CFT and SI.com, where it was linked through) the perception of VT is that we're a sinking ship with a coach on the hot seat where you DON'T go because you don't know what kind of situation we're going to be in before you're done. As much as we don't like this, and as much as this may not be true, THAT'S our perception right now. Thats what the masses think of us, and you better believe thats what the masses have convinced the recruits to believe about us.

If the Peninsula is 5.5 hours from Blacksburg, something's wrong. :)

Also, within your "radius" argument is much of the entire state of West Virginia (45 minutes to the border). Good luck trying to lock them down, for whatever they're worth.

When it comes to VT vs. UVA in determining winners and losers, I'll take the on-field result over anything that these guys have to say. Right now, everyone wants to dissect every tiny bit of information about recruits using their own biased metrics.

Play the game. Decide when you see the product in the system.

So, the notion that 7v7 coaches are "dirty" because they steer kids toward or away from certain schools doesn't hold any water when HS coaches do it as well.

I agree and disagree. Yes, high school coaches do this. No, if any coach does this they are not being fair to the kids they're coaching and influencing. In the ideal world they should be impartial to who or where and partial to what will benefit the kid the most or help him achieve his goal the most.

But we know this is not an ideal world. Here's my problem with these 7v7 coaches. They are not high school coaches or any type of school employee whatsoever. Within the rules of the NCAA, even if a high school coach does lead players to a certain school that is allowable because they are otherwise governed by the rest of the rules of violation regarding recruiting. However, 7v7 coaches are not school employees and in this case are specifically guiding kids to LOLUVA. There really is little difference here than what used to happen in SMU days. Boosters getting kids to go to their school.

And before you say that these coaches are not giving kids cars or whatever, I would counter an say they are giving them free training, free coaching, free publicity and improved, and in this case, direct line to a specific university. Those are all impermissible benefits from a booster to a kid. The key here is the clear funneling of kids to a specific university though, because that's what defines them as a booster. So yes, dirty. filthy in fact.

I would also say that London's comment about not doing anything not allowed under

current rules

is always a telltale sign of someone that knows what they are doing is shitty but doesn't care because it helps their own situation. Dirty again.

What's happening is this...
4- and 5-star athletes are leaving VA to go play elsewhere.
At the same time, 4- and 5-star athletes are leaving elsewhere to play in VA (namely, Tech).

After a while it becomes absolutely impossible to lock down an entire state. Florida and Texas found that out early, and we should be realizing that too.

We focused on offense for this class out of necessity and I am very impressed with the results. Because of this class, I am sure we will have big-time WR threats and a legit featured back for the next few years. We got a stable of O-line guys so we will no longer be worried about disaster if 1-2 guys go down. On defense, I will be conservative and say we have two guaranteed multi-year starters in Walker and (post-prep year) Fisher. I see that potential in a handful of others on D as well.

When considering a) all the experience that some Freshmen got this year, b) the quality of the current coaching staff, and c) the results of this recruiting class, I feel it is safe to say that 2015 might be the first year in a long time where both sides of the ball are strengths. 7+ returning starters on both sides is entirely possible, as is our BEST-EVER secondary.

The future is bright, and this recruiting class is certainly one of the reasons for that. Good luck to all those getting ready for 4-5 of the best years of their life and GO HOKIES!
