What you're seeing right now is a complete change in recruiting mindset from our entire staff. We're now starting to play the game that everyone else plays, and you know what, we're going to be better for it long-term. Loeffer, Moorehead, Grimes/Searels have brought a desperately needed rejuvenation to the recruiting trail and its just starting to pick up steam. And this is showing in the ratings of the guys we're getting. This past year we shot for the 5* players and ended up with a class loaded with 4* talent. This year, we're going even harder for the 5* talent (we have what, 2 5* QBs for 2015 already offered?) and we're getting noticed. This is recruiting at levels we NEVER saw under the Stinespring regime. I don't know about you, but seeing the coaches do this has me REALLY excited for the future of our football program. (because lord knows we need something to be excited for right now during the basketball season)

Amen to that!! This kid would grow here with the support he would get.

I'm pretty sure that I just watched the worst output by a basketball team in terms of efficiency and defense...ever.
I watched until the end. I would have enjoyed stabbing myself with a butter knife much more. The best moment was the look BC coach Steve Donahue had on his face at the end of the game. It was like, "I don't know if I should be happy here. I feel like I just beat up a 6 week old baby."
Actually the article is fairly accurate and correct. Besides the saying Beamer is on the hot seat. That's not true, it's just heating up ever so slightly. But Babcock's contract ends in 2020 I believe so he will face Beamer questions sometime before the end of 2016. That and probably again if he sticks around to 2020 when Beamer is going to probably be on the verge of retiring.
The thing the article gets wrong is the hyperbole of how much Beamer's job is in jeopardy after the past two seasons alone, which if you talk to some fans seems like a somewhat decent assumption.
Moral of the story: The Alumni Association will not send out informaiton about the Hokie Club in an email to my chapter area, even though I am a Chapter President for our Alumni Association.
I can however, send it to our local listserv, but it does not reach as many as it coming directly from the Alumni Association in Blacksburg.
If all he did (or better stated, got caught for) was a BBQ and trying to cover it up, then that's not so bad. He got results at TN, and as long as he does things the right way going forward, I'd like VT to be the school that gives him a shot.
The Alumni Association will not turn over the email addresses it has on file to us for us to use - we have to request an email to be sent from Virginia Tech Alumni Associaiton in Blacksburg to the alumni living in our region. They in turn have to send their email address to me so I can add to our local listserv. - It sucks all around.
Just be thankful that it wasn't written by Heather Dinich. The fact that this article was written by their 'GOOD' ACC blogger is worth mentioning.
I hate this video, but I like that new graduates can start contributing at a mere $25/year.

I am a Hokie Rep (and am also the Chapter President for the Central PA Alumni Association), and I attempted to use the VT Alumni Association listserv for Central PA to send out information about the Hokie Club and the Alumni Association would not let me request the email.
*Backnote - to send an email to the alumni in a region, I have to request it be sent from the database in Blacksburg. We have a local PA Chapter listserv, but have only been able to collect 150 email addresses. The VT Alumni Association has over 1,100 email addresses.

Absolutely there's pressure any time you replace a Hall of Fame, legendary coach, you'd feel pressure, too. But I hope he coaches for a long time, wins a lot of games. I'm much more interested in finding out what I can do to support coach Beamer than I am at this point of eventually having to replace him whenever that time may be. He's a legend, he's a Hall of Famer, and I can learn a lot from him.

VA has so many different parts to the state, unlike Alabama. There's the DC area, Richmond, the 757, etc. There's no given fanhood assumption in Florida, which also has a variety of cities.
That being said, from my experience, VT is the most national brand from VA.
Gregg Marshall makes $1.6m, is the Frank Beamer of WSU, and literally has his own plane to use for recruiting.
We can't afford Gregg Marshall.
This is an interesting scenario. Beamer, by rule, does not send new scholarship offers to players committed elsewhere unless that player reaches out to VT and appears genuine. He feels it is disrespectful to try to "steal" players from other programs. That tells me he believes in this kid's talent and that his interest in VT is legitimate. I would love to see him in Maroon & Orange.
So, what time do we think he'll be here tomorrow?
This might be the worst team in the history of the ACC. THIS is why schools like Duke and UNC put up a huge fight to keep us out of the conference back in 2003. We created this mess all on our own with stupid hires on a cheap budget because our Athletic Department doesn't care about the sport.
I REALLY hope and pray that Babcock changes this mindset. There is no quicker way to run afoul of the powers that be in the ACC than to not show dedication to your basketball programs. His first move as AD is going to HAVE to be a new head basketball coach, because right now we just have to in order to save face in this conference.
Shaka Smart is not coming to VT. Not ever.
He's already turned down bigger, more prestigious programs who can and have offered him more money than he can ever hope to.
He's Frank Beamer at VCU, completely untouchable. He's going to sit in that spot until he gets an offer he can't refuse from the likes of UNC, Kentucky, Duke, Syracuse, etc...he's in no hurry to get out of RVA.

# | Men's BBall: VT 8-11(1-6) at Boston College 5-14(1-5) 7 PM ESPN3 This is just so futile! The combination of injuries and just a lack of caring really by the players. I feel like this when watching:
its just sadism at this point watching this team.
Off the top of my head, I can think of the following:
1. We were playing in a diluted ACC that didn't have as many top-level teams as the league has today.
2. The college game was significantly different in 2004. Spread and Read Option were isolated systems that were really just beginning to grab a foothold in the game at the time. The 9-11 unit, as you so wonderfully referred to them, wasn't forced to cover skill position players in space like our defense would today. Heck, look at how Bud had to alter his scheme to defend the spread. Would Hall and Adibi both see the field simultaneously all 13 games in 2013? You would hope so, but I'm not as scheme savvy as someone like French.
3. We had a decent ground attack that we could lean on (HUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMESSSS) - and that includes Bryan Randall's great scrambling ability. Randall, short of a couple of elite passing games (I think of the Insight.com Bowl and the Syracuse Game where he threw for 504 yds), was a great game manager and used his dual threat ability to keep plays alive and move the sticks. Not to say he didn't chuck it (he threw a spotty deep ball), but the time he created moving in the pocket allowed guys like Eddie Royal to ultimately adjust and make plays in space after the catch.
4. Our Secondary and Dline were disgustingly good. End of story.
For what its worth, I hated our OLine that season...I think Mario Williams & Co. sacked Randall at least 10 times in the NC State Game. They pulled it together as the season went on, but it wasn't exactly a banner year. (Now French will crucify me...)
