The MVs still have plenty of hip gyrations they do in the stands. It's just different sections do them to different drum cadences, so it's not as noticeable, I suppose?
Fair enough. That one is less important to me than Stick it in. At the very least they could get the Marching Virginians to lead a different motion..like pointing their finger or something instead of the hip gyrations that Weaver was worried about. I feel like people tend to follow the lead of the MVs
My friend coaches at a DIII school and they had Boone on campus recruiting him in the fall. Makes me wonder if he is really DI talent.
Here's another scenario that I thought of: The Bears. Even though Cutler just signed a huge contract, their scouts (according to walterfootball.com) want a QB in the 6'5" range and I think Marc Trestman would be a great coach for Logan. He'd also have a solid running game with Matt Forte and the dynamic duo of Marshall/Jeffery.

People liked the throwbacks when we wore them, so Nike gave us a modern version when it was time for a new design. not everyone loved them, but no one will ever design a VT jersey everyone loves. we'll have new jerseys in 2015, either designed by Nike under our new contract, or by our new partner. hell, if Nike thinks they might lose the business, i could see them giving us a new jersey this year just to sell as many new replicas as possible before they are done.
Well... she did survive what I can only assume was the smanging of the millenium.

# | Cincinnati Enquirer reporting that Bearcats AD Whit Babcock will likely be the new Virginia Tech Athletic Director I agree, and I get the sense that some are feeling that the new AD is coming into a disaster and has a lot of repair work to be done.
But that's not accurate, thanks to Weaver, as he ran a tight ship and VT is on great financial footing, is a full member of a BCS conference, etc.
There's a lot on the 'to do' list, namely connect with fans, fundraise, basketball, but all of those should be attainable.
Goes on date at high-end restaurant. Reads TKP.

# | David Teel Interview with John Ballein- Not an AD candidate/Problems with Fundraising And, to piggy-back onto my above post, as an alum and booster, getting knowledge of specific needs is much more of an incentive to give/contribute that the ole' "VT needs money."
It would be helpful if the new AD, through the Hokie Club, would come out and say 'VT needs X personnel, and Y facility upgrades and they will require Z dollars."
A fresh perspective with an experienced opinion comparing us to 'them' would be nice.
QB. The talent was lacking at that position.
I'm thinking they're going to go after an experienced QB in free agency (possibly Vick), avoid another Ponder bust in the first round, and draft a guy they don't have to throw into the fire right away/can coach up.

# | Cincinnati Enquirer reporting that Bearcats AD Whit Babcock will likely be the new Virginia Tech Athletic Director A TSL article a couple months back was, IMO, spot-on when it said that Weaver was absolutely the right man for the job at the time. He brought VT athletics into the ACC, made huge strides upgrading facilities and left the department in a very strong place financially, with very low debt levels (for college athletics at least).
Now, I wholeheartedly believe, as I'm sure jut about all of you do, that Babcock is the perfect man for the job right now and for the foreseeable future. He'll need to bring energy into the program, revitalize fundraising and oversee the future of the football and basketball programs. Based on his background and achievements, he looks like a perfect fit for Hokie Nation.
I'm not really sure how the top dogs are selected. I would assume that there's job posting/application process.
Lu Merritt became the head of the Hokie Club (his official title is Director of Development for Intercollegiate Athletics) in 1994 after a 23 year career in banking. Really nice guy, but I'm not sure that we have the most effective fundraising model. On the local level, it's entirely volunteer based, and that creates a HUGE difference in effectiveness between the local chapters.
Hopefully, we'll see improvement with the new AD.
Local Hokie Reps get incentives for the number of active members - they used to get moved up one level in the point priority system if they have a certain number of active members (i.e., they could give at the silver level, but be bumped to gold). I assume that's still in place, but am not 100% certain. they also get incentive awards, such as jackets and shirts based on the number of active members.
You forgot to mention the inclusion of five first ballot Hall of Fame VT dbs:
Chancellor, Flowers, Fullers, and Exum

I can't hear you, I have a J.D. in my ears. If the case you're referencing doesn't apply to what you're talking about, why are you bringing it up in the first place? We both agree that the Brentwood case allows for organizations to put restrictions on schools and coaches. That's all it says and it doesn't go any further than that. You seem to want it to say more which it doesn't.
1. Marc Tyler was suspended by USC for joking about getting paid more at USC than as a pro. Why? Because playing football is a privilege, not a right. His is not an isolated incident. Athletes must abide by the rules of their scholarship and can't say or do whatever they want when not wearing a jersey. This is a separate argument from whether fans can tweet recruits.
2. Read how the NCAA defines boosters. It doesn't take much to turn a fan into a booster. The clause "persons who have been involved in promoting the institution's athletics program" applies to just about everyone here. If you try to get someone to go to a certain school, you're no longer a casual fan and you become a booster.

The article you brought it relates to student-athletes and what they can talk about as a student. That's a different argument. Of course they have rights. With rights come responsibilities. It has nothing to do with fans tweeting recruits. I completely agree with what he's saying, but he's not really talking about the issue we're talking about.

You're the one basing your argument on the conjecture of what people think might happen in future court rulings based on whatever a Google search turns up. I'm basing my opinion based on the existing rules, which says you can't tweet at recruits as fan.

In addition to facilities, Ballein said Tech needs additional football staff to keep up with ACC rivals. The NCAA limits Bowl Subdivision programs to nine full-time assistant coaches, but there is no cap on player development personnel.
We have the smallest football staff in the ACC, Ballein said, and not many people know that.
Who is that and what position does he play? TIA.

I wouldn't unless there was some value-add for me. Given how NFL players don't have guaranteed money, I'd be VERY hesitant to give unless you were financially secure off the field.
