For Logan's sake, I hope he winds up in Pittsburgh, New England, or Green Bay.
Logan is going to need a few years in a back up role to develop if he is going to have any success as an NFL QB. Those three teams all have aging QBs but not ones that are going to retire next year.
His best NFL comprable right now is Big Ben. Learning from him and then taking over (hopefully) in 3-5 years is I think the ideal. Seems like forever but its not when you look at Aaron Rogers career.
Speaking of Rogers, same thing but the system is a little more pass heavy than Pitt, so I think Pitt is a little better for LT.
New England has a QB in the wings using this same philosophy in Ryan Mallet. But no reason LT can't compete with him. Also, given Belichick's history of being able to develop underrated guys and get them into the best position, this would be the best spot for LT if he were open to just getting on the field, QB or not.
I'm a Ravens fan BTW. So this is all about me hoping a top notch guy and great Hokie gets his ideal opportunity.

One team no-one mentioned is the Ravens. Yes the Ravens. We all know Joe Fluke-o is not a good QB, he actually shouldn't even be playing above Tyrod I think.

Exactly. That was a glorious day/night (sky was so dark I wasn't really sure what time of day it was all day anyways). I remember being drenched and cold (just jeans and a t-shirt for me, thanks), but having a drop of hot water hit me every once in a while, since I was standing right under the lights on the East stands. Easily one of my all-time favorite games as a Hokie. Miami was all hyped up coming in, no one thought we'd win, and we wiped the muddy field with em all day long. More, please.
If he could stop throwing a fit every time something happens that he doesn't like, that is.
One of Ben's best assets is his pocket presence, and ability to extend plays while staying inside the pocket. That's why he's one of the few QB's that can perform behind that OL. IMO that doesn't exactly correlate to Logan, being that his pocket presence is one of his greatest weaknesses, and when he scrambles his mechanics go down the drain and he becomes even more inaccurate.
i would have LOVED an annual report from the Hokie Club that broke down income, spending, and even a little detail as to where my donation may have specifically gone when i was donating. i do vaguely recall some annual report, but it was more in line with an SEC filing than a marketing piece.
the hokie club is going to have to pull me back in. my one incentive before was priority seating and parking, which i no longer require since i cannot make it to blacksburg more than once/year for football. give me a new incentive. make me feel a part of something again without needing to be a season ticket holder, too.
Of course, these are the happy thoughts of a pedestrian fan. :)
It's because I care about that I will point this out: you don't lose 5 senior starters and a quality backup and expect to have a minuscule dropoff. Bud will get his guys in the right spots and have a great scheme every game, but the inexperience of the front 7 very well may bite us at some point next year. Fair warning.
I just wanted to echo the sentiment that this was a really well-written piece.
Basically, Where the team is now under JJ does not retroactively make getting rid of SG a bad decision.
The bad decisison was hiring someone who had literally never been head coach of a basketball team and put him in the ACC. The other bad decision was hamstringing said neophyte coach with doing all of this far too late in the year/recruting cycle. You basically forced the following season to be a wash, that was only remotely salvaged by the existence of Erick Green.
So this is really his first year. By all accounts he's got recruiting on track (remember after basically losing his entire first recrutiing period due to the timing of his predecessor's departure), this is his first year with his guys, and his guys - the ones who are eligible to play and aren't sick/injured. Are things great? No, they kind of suck, but it happens. The league also got way tougher this year with the additions of Syracuse and Pitt.
Like I said in the Wake game thread, VT has a rep in the coaching industry as being unfreindly to coaches/not conducive to success. Take it for what you will, but the reputation is that we are facing major challenges to recrutiign due mostly to the physical location of the school. Combine that with an athletic department that doesn't provide coaches with resoruces to overcome those challeneges, or the proper insitutional support by which to truly succeed. How much of that will be attributed to Weaver? God knows, how much of that will be forgiven when he is replaced? Same answer...
I'll tell you this though, if one of the first moves of an AD is to come in here and fire the BB coach after 2 years considering the disaster the preceded his first year, it's not going to go very far in eliminating the "VT isn't a program that allows coaches to succeed bias."
JJ has a contract, let him play it out. Take what you can this year, and see what happens next year. If there's progress, see what happens in his last year. If there's no progress, then replace him with someone new. "We gave him a shot, and it didn't work so we're heading in a new direction" no one can argue with that.
MBB is what it is, we have nothing really to gain and everything to lose by giving this guy at least one more year. In the interest of full disclosure, I don't think he's the guy to get it done - you don't start coaching in the bloody ACC. But I'm all in favor of giving him at least one more year to actually prove it either way.

If he can work on some of his accuracy issues (which are already improving with proper coaching), I think he would be a great fit in Kelly's system, which is much more a run focused approach than people still want to accept (even with the NFL's leading rusher this year). The addition of a mobile QB adds a whole new dimension to it though. He wouldn't be asked to start quickly, as Foles will be the guy at a minimum next year, if not more, but would offer a fantastic back up option for the Birds.
Does Hank Thorns count as a transfer in that time period as well? Ended up going to TCU and played fairly well on a terrible team.

I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere somehow Loeffler has secretly been with Motley helping him and molding him into a QB that will lead us to Victory. I'm sorry but Leal has 3 years of no coaching and I just don't see it working out. Loeffler has been praising Motley since he (Lefty) got here. Spring needs to hurry up
Which is? Losing all the time because you refuse to have a decent QB meanwhile you have one of the best WR's in the league. If Dez was on the Panthers, Niners, Colt, or even the Dolphins he could possibly beat Megatron for best WR.

When I donate to Tech, I allocate the funds toward Sports. Don't allocate alot because I have no idea what the money goes toward, what the goals are, etc. Just do it because it makes the school look good based on % of alums donating funds.
Have seen the HC as a vehicle for football tickets and because my kids are active we have a hard time catching one game a year, we typically don't even think about HC. Posted somewhere else that I think Tech should play sporting events in the NOVA and Beach regions and work to ensure that the alums in the area are aware of those games. No reason why HC just has to be about tickets. I'd go see Rugby, Soccer, Football, Basketball, Wrestling, etc in the Capital Region. Would probably be likely to write a check, bounce into friends, meet new friends, and generally be more engaged with VT than I am. One hallway in one building in Blacksburg should not be the only place HC is active.
Even the guy running along the baseline is usually doing it wrong, taking a highly circuitous route to get around his outside screen to come into shooting position. Usually takes 2-3 seconds longer than it should. Cadarian hasn't played enough for me to say if he is worse or better. JVZ is nice on defense but atrocious on offense. He should be spending hours at the practice facility working on a jump hook and layups. Devin should be on the other end shooting free throws.
GT would scare me more if they didn't just lose their QB. The guys that shut down GT last year were Hopkins, Tyler, and Kyle Fuller. They were all over the field that game. Tyler has owned GT. Who steps up to replace their output?
This part makes me wonder if this would have helped sway any of the recruits we have lost to other schools. I understand some were leaving VA regardless but knowing the even UVA has a larger staff then us is not sitting well with me. Then again I laugh at the fact the have more people in their program them we do and they are still horrible. Makes me think their coaching style is similar to the little kids playing soccer on the movie The Big Green.
