Well see, running an entire athletic department is a big job and I just have a hard time imagining that within the first month one of the things they do is fire the MBB coach.
Tech has a bad enough reputation in the college coaching world. Hamstringing a guy and then canning him. In two years seems like it would only make that worse. But, perhaps it couldn't get worse...
Who is playing guard? Top 2 are hurt. Awfully hard to pin this fiasco on him. Anyone playing a freshman at PG in the ACC or any major conference should be putting them in positions to succeed. These kids are in the deep end from the beginning. They will work hard this summer and be much better next year. Very hard to improve PG play during the season. Their embarrassment will serve to motivate them for the off season workouts.

We're playing completely disjointed, undisciplined basketball. We're a lot of fundamentally unsound players making bad decisions, and the score line reflects such play.
But here we are, clawing our way back into this game. I think that's what I've grown to expect of this season. Let's go Hokies.
If the games are continually hotly contested, it's a rivalry. Especially considering what's been at stake.

If we get a new AD in February, what's to keep him/her from firing JJ in mid-March? They probably already have someone in mind right now, even before accepting the position.

I guess you have to look at tix sales and whether it pencils out to make that return trip or another home game with a guarantee. I can understand Wake, but NCSU has a big stadium that is usually full.
Regarding your 4 VT examples, WMU and UCF were quite literally another era. Those games were scheduled before the NC appearance. Louisville is probably playing out some of those pre-exposure contracts. Like you said, we've only done twice recently and both are in easy travel distance for our fan base. The oft-discussed ECU contract speaks for itself, but I think Beamer has always held a soft spot for Marshall due to his buddy Loria and the plane crash. Maybe some of these road trips are similar Athletic department relationships or recruiting oriented.
Or maybe it's the bottom crust of the conference taking what they can get.

I think the only thing that's going to save him is the timing of the new GM hire. If the new AD isn't even named until Feb, I doubt the first thing they are going to do is fire the MBB coach. You won't want to put JJs replacement in the place you put him by firing his predecessor too late in the off-season.
But other than that I agree, yikes.
All I know is... there are few teams in the ACC with a winning record against us. GT ain't one of them.

I may be a little off on the measurements, but I believe this to be correct.
this is one of the dumbest things i have ever seen, plain and simple. i could list 100 reasons why.
- arent they 2-8 against us?
- what did they accomplish in those 2 seasons? losing to WAKE in the acccg and getting destroyed by iowa in the OB?
- do they even have a natl title? if they do, 1960 or whenever doesnt count
- do they think they would have fared better against auburn in 04?
- is VT really the cause of the SEC's success? does it not have something to do with the SEC?
- have they never had kids on their team who get in trouble with the law? what's the difference - that ours were actually GOOD so it got more attention?
- In addition to getting arrested, there are other things that our starting QBs do: win conf titles, get to the national title game, play in the NFL, beat GT, QB sneak for 16 yards repeatedly against GT, COMPLETE PASSES and umm...not transfer to other schools

To me, that's the reason I loved the 2010 black unis. Those things looked like smoldering Hokie fire. The black, in my eyes, is just the frame that highlights the school colors.
