I agree with everything but the Duke thing. Duke has a legitimate chance of going to the ACCCG again. Some might say that they just took everyone by surprise, but I don't by that. They will be competing for the division at the end of the season.

I hope he gets a shot. It is super sad because he genuinely wanted to be a Hokie. Dude was really a gifted back and I honestly feel he has better field vision than Coleman and Edmunds. If he had been here he would have been the starter and edmunds an LB with possible RB touches. just my opinion though.
That's preposterous.
I mean I've met some pretty lazy and terrible guidance counselors in my day. But for real, you would think after the first time he would triple check.

Yeah, I remember in the preseason all of them running around saying they were the best College Football team EVER. Not this year, but in the history of college football and that they could take on an NFL team. I now bring up the Oklahoma and Auburn games and they just make up dumb excuses like Auburn was super duper lucky and the team didn't care or really prepare for Oklahoma so it doesn't matter.

This article is just a reminder that there are so many kids that would have some pretty sorry circumstances if it werent for sports. Statistically many of these athletes would have ended up in jail or serious trouble very early in life and football acts as an outlet of safety. This statements sounds ironic given all the new information on head trauma, but it is so incredibly true.
It also stands as a reminder to me why the kids at Tech are so incredibly lucky to be coached by a man like Frank. Given these possible academic deficiencies they are all the more likely to be shaped by their environment. Hell, I know that I want a championship so damn bad, but I would much rather have someone like Beamer shaping 18 year old minds and giving them a fighting chance in life.
I'm just curious...does no one tell him beforehand that these classes don't qualify him? Does something happen during the middle of the year that changes?
backer: Clarke was suspended for a long time, but was back for the bowl game. Sounds like that's behind him and he should be in the mix to start this fall. Keep an eye on Moss and McKinnon as well.
mike: DVD will miss the spring rehabbing his ACL, so Chase has a leg up there (pun intended). But DVD could be special if he comes back healthy.
Should be good battles. There's some practice experience there if not game experience. In the past when someone has left, Bud has been able to plug in previously-backup linebackers without much game experience. I'll count on him to do that again. Expect some bumps, but I think we'll be ok.
My wife is a WMU alum and if the schedule holds, I plan on using the full bye week to get on every one of her last nerves about the game. My ultimate coup will be when I get her to wear her VT stuff while we watch the beat down unfold.
This year was sobering for most of us. That said I'm not worried about the offense. The line is only going to get better and gain depth thanks to recruiting. We have weapons at receiver and tight end. The QB question mark will be answered this spring and the competition is going to make them all better. The defense will reload. I'm an optimist so I could see us improving this year. I'm not throwing in the towel on these team before we even know what we have. Give these coaches time!
Of course Time cop was offered the same job and Associate HC but turned it down, per Time Cop.
Hell we don't even know what we have. It's not unreasonable to think we may have a playmaker coming in next year. Let's say hypothetically Marshawn Williams comes in and blows up the defensive line every game or one of the big freshmen wideouts turn out to be a stud right off the bat. Throw a few playmakers on last year's team and we may not have lost to anyone but Bama and UCLA. I'm gonna reserve my judgement on how our guys are gonna be until at least after spring ball.
Their fans: Are. Just. So. Awful.
speaking of 2020 though, Whiskey and Mich in the same year should be fun. And with Louisville.

I thought Notre Dame was only in Blacksburg only during a presedential election year when the first snow occurs on a Tuesday prior to Columbus Day in Blacksburg....
I would imagine that this stuff started way before the entered college. I like how the focus is on the college aspect but their schooling prior to this part of their life is sub-par as well. Just being an athlete does not make you college material much less NFL material. After a while the stupidity will catch up to you. As you get higher up in the game you need to learn more and become a student. The worst part is that some of these kids live with the impression that they HAVE to use their athleticism to go to college. It is about opening the door with your athleticism.
Having coached younger kids (and I do not care about the sport) I made it a requirement that my kids were passing all of their classes and gradually increased those reqs: no failing, nothing below a C, attain Honor Roll (B average with nothing below a C), etc. You could see a correlation between the grades and how much they understood in practice. Smarter kids understand the game more. If they needed time for HW or a project they didnt have to come to practice. They will try harder for you. They get in trouble less.
