The NFL tried this, as that's what NFL Europe was all about. Why would the NFL go out of its way a second time to spend money developing players when the NCAA does it for them? The NBA D-League only works because it has a low cost to run and can be played in almost any indoor facility designed with a flat floor in the center as opposed to needing football fields and a boatload of cash. Total personnel for a D-League team = 25 with coaches and staff
Total personnel for a D-League type NFL team would require close to 100

The real question should be: Starter or clipboard holder. If you saw Scott Tolzien and Senecca Wallace step in for Rodgers, I have faith that a spot on a roster can be found for LT. If I cared I'd look at the long list of QB's clocking checks in the NFL and have all faith that they will see what he can bring to the table and give him a roster spot.

Only reason we played UMES was their head coach was a former coach at Tech. He was entertaining to watch; the rest of the game was pretty unbearable.
Last night's just shows how much they need depth and if Malik was available this year, the team would be a heck of a lot different. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts at point next year with Devin spelling him. Smith is a sharpshooter but he just isn't tall enough to get open looks against bigger guards. Jarrell will always do Jarrell things, which is either be red hot or ice cold. Getting into double digit wins will be a "success" for the year and hopefully with the freshmen getting experience and a bunch of guards coming in next year, they will have the depth to do a lot better than this year. This is going to be a long transition for JJ and with the new AD coming in, I could see him getting the axe before he makes any real progress.
I mean purely in terms of in game it doesnt matter at all. Off the field though we are still talking about impressionable 18 year olds that are going to spend the majority of four years with him. I know I wouldnt want my kid around him. But if we are talking about being a football coach in a vacuum I guess it doesnt.
That's so depressing. Especially in light of the focus on long-term brain injury, some kids are asked to literally give up their health and not even be given a proper education in return. I suppose that most have the opportunity to take the tutoring seriously and improve themselves, but how many willingly take advantage of it? How many are pressured to spend more time practicing and studying the playbook and just take the work the tutors do for them? Sometimes people don't know what's in their best interests, and could use a shove in the right direction.
I realize that this would negatively impact VT (and all of college football), but I think some kind of NFL minor league needs to be established. Let the guys that want to get paid immediately play there for 2-3 years, and let the guys that want to go to college do their thing without all the sleaziness of academic scandals and improper benefits. (I know it won't end these things, but maybe it will rein them back in to the realm of reason). The NBA already has the D-League, skim some off the existing revenue sharing and increase the contract size down there. There's bound to be a bunch of kids that would rather take a smaller contract now for a couple of years over playing one or two years for (kind of) free and skip the hassle of classes and admission.

I am not 100% sure of this information, but a friend of AJ's told me he had D-1 offers to pole vault. Don't think there is rivals information on that sport - but - if true shows the athlete AJ is.

As long as he gets paid, I am happy for him. But, other than hoping he is successful, I am not discussing Logan Thomas on this site anymore other than to share fond memories of his play.
