Kam Chancellor (Ronnie Lott and those type) would disagree with you. As the last man you own your space. People come inside it you let them know not to come back. Form tackling just tells them your not gonna let them go farther. Bone crushing (legal) hits say something else entirely and can cause a receiver to not make the next catch in your space because he is looking for the hit instead of the ball.

Yes, talking about the Pitt hit. I think it depends. If the intent is simply to bring the runner down, then yes, I think the proper technique is to wrap him up. If you're trying to jar the ball loose and potentially change the game, then a shoulder-to-shoulder hit, delivered from the side of a non-defenseless receiver (who was in the act of running downfield), is perfectly viable and proper.

Looked at the Louisville247 site and it seems a good bit of their fans are excited if it is Petrino as long as he has a huge buyout. There are rumors that he would like to bring Randy Shannon to his staff as the DC which would help keep their Miami recruiting connections.

I don't like Petrino but he's a good coach on the field and paired with Shannon would keep Louisville as a strong contender in the ACC.

I turned it on at 50-40 SU lead. After about 5 possessions with turnovers and not even getting a shot off, the Hokies finally got off a shot....from half court! At least it hit the rim! But, of course, nobody was under the basket to rebound.

Dan Bonner had this classic quip, "Well, it's not normally advisable to shoot half court shots with 10:00 left in the game." Dan used to coach the women's team at R.E. Lee HS in Staunton, maybe he'd be interested in taking over for JJ?

Regarding Slye, he's a very talented athlete. As a Freshman, he started on the Varsity soccer team that won the State Championship that year. He also was selected as all-state for kicker. And given everything that his family has been going through, I hope he gets a scholarship offer sooner rather than later.

EDIT: My reasoning for why I hope he gets a scholarship is because his older brother has been fighting an uphill battle with leukemia for the past year and a half. Despite the amount of support they have received from the community, I'm sure the family could use something positive right about now and something to lighten their load.

...and DE if Marshall leaves. We will be dependent on the magic of Foster next year with the DL/LB issues. Under a mortal DC, it could be brutal to be lacking so much depth.

Packing up the wife and kids and moving from NoVa to Colorado next month. I'm already lamenting how much more difficult it will be to casually watch VT football and basketball on TV and get back for games.

At least I still have TKP and ESPN3 to help make the transition smoother.

Loeffler ... came into a pretty messed up situation and I think he decided he couldn't clean up the whole mess at once.

I think that explains a great deal about the 2013 offense, though I might have emphasized "making it his own" over cleaning up a mess.

Isn't there a saying that if you have two QBs that means you don't have a QB? The one thing the offense did have this year was a QB, so playing Leal only made sense in mopping-up situations. Unfortunately we didn't get many of those in 2013.

He sounds like quality. Amen to him getting a scholarship if he transitions well to college.

Coale's punt-option was #GoBeamerball, RB/ROVPunter and LBKicker is #FuckYeahBeamerball!!

I'm not sure I understand your criticism. Do you have a problem with me posting the picture (which was done to take a swipe at UCLA's Zumwalt and CBS while simultaneously illustrating excellent football technique)? BCH for posting a different view to confirm it? Joe for posting the original GIF? The fact that any of us like it? Kyshoen for making the hit? The fact that the hit is legal?

...find another season where we have little or no depth at:
LB
DT

Plus depth at kicker means little if none of them can consistently put it through the uprights, and so far we haven't seen it. Ask the HeadBallCop how that worked out for him at the QB position...bodies don't equal talent.

Sorry, y'all are right. I was thinking LB for some reason. I will mean front 7 when Maddy makes a decision. I would hate to lose him, Skip, and Gayle.
