I was actually pretty excited about how the OLine played at times today. We saw a few good combo blocks and for the most part pretty good pass protection. They're definitely in a MUCH better place now than they were 365 days ago.

is it bad that I'm more interested in the RB battle? I think with a brand new QB taking snaps and (hopefully) a more experienced and fundamentally sound O-line on the field we should expect to see us lean more heavily on the power running game. That will be the battle to keep an eye on IMO

As I've said earlier I wish we could field a team (abridged) that for once wouldn't get bit by the injury bug every damn year. It happens every damn year to at least three of our key players. Don't see a whole lot of that shit happening to other teams.
I really did not like the announcers at all...they kept messing up all kinds of players names..mixing up Edwards24 and KJ34 several times...referring to Mangus as Magnum to name a couple of instances...And seriously, that hit on LT looked like the defender lead with his helmet and made contact with LT3's helmet when I looked at it. The announcers and refs didn't see it that way so I must be wrong. Really sucked to see LT3 go out that way.
I think if we can lock up Harrison, he'll see action next year as that big-play threat we've been missing at the WR position.
I hope some NFL team takes a shot at converting Logan to the TE he could have been. I love the guy and it makes me sad but I just don't think he has any future at QB at the next level unless he stays a career backup. It would obviously take a few years to learn the position since he never truly played it but he could still be a beast TE.
Either way, it was great to watch him in a Hokie uniform, through the good and the bad. He wasn't always the best quarterback but he was a great leader, a great team player, a class act and gave 110% every time he was on the field.

I think (and expect) the offense to be much improved next season.
Well, we've seen a renewed focus on toughness this year, but that's not gonna happen overnight. At least we weren't seeing offensive linemen on their butts or receivers who had no interest in blocking.
Like I said on an earlier thread it's up to the powers that be to fix the shit mess and teach and drill basic fundamentals of football. My initial inclination is yes Beamer is comfortable. However, he did demote/replace Stiney and Newsome with Loeffler and Grimes. Beamer has never had a killer instinct. I think that Bud Foster will most likely get us over the hump for that MNC or, at the very least, improve our record against programs that we have the ability to defeat but end up losing to. I think Foster will also fix that nagging playing down to the level and exorcise it once and for all.
Maybe I missed it but I'm surprised it took this long for me to see somebody joke about making Cline the QB on here.
Perhaps I need to translate. Toughness not as in attitude or what they bring to the field but toughness as in the punishment their bodies can take. $ec players are known for being able to take (and dish) a lot of punishment on their bodies.
This. Up here in State College, this happened a bunch of years because Paterno always believed the senior had earned it. They rarely had a qb start for more than a year or two. Same thing happens at Wisconsin. Eventually you gotta bring in someone if you don't invest time in developing anyone. Motley, Hodges, and Ford are the guys I'm looking at for the QB competition.

Eh, I don't think he was all bad. Played decently but made two significant mistakes. Wasn't ready for this, and no one expected that he needed to be.
I was very impressed with Jerome Wright, I can't remember seeing him all year but I was happy with his work. Same with Mangus, or as Verne liked to call him, "[something not his name]". I thought JC played well today, too, better than I expected (as I've not been high on him all year).
I guess somebody still has a hard on for Snyder.

LOL, no, FORD! Even though I don't know anything about him yet. Shiny new toy and all.
Here's the way I'm thinking about it:
1) Logan clearly wasn't ready for it. He obviously saw the guy coming but didn't prepare himself for getting jacked up. He's been starting for three years, so I have to feel like he would protect himself a little if he thought he was going to get pummeled. He didn't, so I think it was late.
However
The guy was clearly within a step or two of Logan, so I don't think it was late per the rule. So no late hit penalty.
2) He didn't appear to go helmet to helmet, nor did he hit Logan in the head with his hand/arm/elbow/shoulder, so it wouldn't be whatever the rule is for hitting a guy in the head.
However
That guy went high on everyone all day, especially near the end when he clearly went helmet to helmet with JC.
3) It wasn't targeting per the definition of the rule.

The refs called a generic personal foul, unnecessary roughness I believe it was, because (I think) it wasn't targeting, it wasn't late, but it was totally uncalled for and shouldn't have been done. It was definitely a penalty. But it wasn't targeting. Worse than Wave Ryder's hit the other day against Mid Tenn. I would have bought it as an ejection.
Me either, but it was warranted. I've never been this mad at another player against VT.
