I'd rather us mop the floor with them and have our defense completely SHUTDOWN (dare I say shutout? We are about due for another...) that clown's offense, and no Hokie say a word to the OC after the game. Just have the TV camera pan slowly over to his face only to see how stupid he feels after that loss.

I read somewhere that they vacated that bowl appearance all-together, so that technically ended their bowl streak. But various sources list it differently.

Caldwell was actually the first person to flunk out of Tech, though he returned the next year, and did in fact graduate.
It's stupid, but it's not. They went to the game and such, but they played with ineligible players, hence the vacated wins.
If Lance Armstrong vacated his wins and turned in his medals because they learned he was ineligible later on due to substance use, then I don't see what the big deal is with the FSU vacating wins/bowls is. Would they have won without those players? Probably...but they still played with those players that they shouldn't have been playing with due to ineligibility.

I still think it's stupid. They appeared in the game. The game happened. That's like saying "well Florida State just didn't play the 2006 season, but they still got the losses that happened." Vacating wins is one of the dumbest penalties because honestly, besides people like Bowden and Paterno, who cares? Take back a trophy for the bowl win, fine. But they were still there and the game was still played. Had they lost their streak would have been intact which is the dumbest logic you can come up with.

It's one of the quirks of the NCAA. Since they had to vacate their wins from the 2006 season, they technically had zero wins and were not eligible for a bowl, which they also technically didn't win. Their streak shouldn't be at 9, but it's also not at 31 or whatever it would be. Some stat sites like ESPN and others still refer to the streak being intact, but the NCAA does not.
I think Tyrod deserves to quarterback his own team.
All biases aside, UVA is a great school. Some of the best teachers I had went to UVA. I had a ton of friends who graduated from there and most of them are smart, driven, humble and incredibly altrustic. However, the rest of them became vocal, rampant douchebags and unfortunately they are the ones who shape the university's image.
It's the Steve Fairchilds of the world who unfairly perpetuate the negative perception that UVA is a mecca for the arrogant and the pretentious. It's the Steve Fairchilds of the world who scare away exceptionally talented individuals from Charlottesville because those individuals don't want to be associated with such crass behavior. It's the the Steve Fairchilds of the world who go 2-8 and still expect to be treated with reverence.
Although I don't agree with Shane going to Andy Bitter with his comments (come on bro, don't feed the troll), I do echo his sentiments.
UVA clearly has trouble beating and recruiting against VT but it's not because they have higher admission standards (In the past two years, 78% of Virginia Tech commits from Virginia were offered by UVA, 84% were offered by UVA or a more academically prestigious school), it's not because they have higher academic expectations (VT football has a higher GSR than UVA football) and it's not because they lack the infrastructure to do it.
The reason why they fail is because people like Steve Fairchild hold an unfounded expectation that being better than Virginia Tech is somehow a god-given birthright like a perverse, modern-day version of manifest destiny.
I know recruits sometimes visit TKP so I hope they read the following statement:
If you're offered scholarships from Virginia Tech and UVA and choose to go to UVA, that's fine with me and probably the rest of Hokie Nation. Just realize you're going to be associated with people like Steve Fairchild for the rest of your life.
If you choose UVA over VT because you want to work for a company like Goldman Sachs or McKinsey after you graduate, there's a school in Durham, NC you would be more interested in. If you choose UVA over VT because there's less competition for playing time, you clearly aren't competitive or driven enough to make to the NFL and you should seriously consider other career options. If you choose UVA over VT for any other reason, be aware you consciously made football a secondary focus in your existence and severely hampered your ability for success in that arena.
