I'm not a Ravens fan either- but most of my family is, and as such I'm forced to follow the team in order to deal with their massive overreactions (Ravens fans like to think the sky is falling down if they lose two games in a row).
Joe Flacco right now is playing with a team of has-runs and nobodies. Their line is like a sieve, I hesitate to say it may be worse than the Redskins line (and as a Redskins fan, that's saying something). Sure, Ray Rice is a good running back, but he is forced to dodge roughly two defenders every play in the backfield. They have one good receiver, because I'm sorry, Jacoby Jones is a return man, and he's been hurt half the season. Their best tight end is Dallas Clark, who dropped off the face of the Earth when Manning left Indy.
And yet, they're still better than the Redskins. Kind of depressing, really.
But anyone who thinks that this down season for the Ravens is because of the quarterback, hasn't been watching the team enough to understand it.
I agree that the wildcat is stupid. Big Ben said something similar a couple weeks ago. It gets the offense out of their rhythm. I can see it being useful after a couple 3 and outs, but when you're driving you shouldn't be changing it up like that.
I'll agree on the point that if someone offers you money, you should take it. But before he won the superbowl (on the heels of the defense I might add) he wanted to be grouped together with elite QB's like T.Brady and P.Manning and I'm not sure if he's that good. I also agree that the Ravens really screwed themselves by paying him that much money. But you have to think, that deal was negotiated by his agent who is employed and directed by Flacco himself. So it's not like he was sitting at home one day and the Ravens front office called and said "hey, just so you know, we're thinking of paying you more than any other player has ever been paid in the history of the league" He had to have some sort of influence on it. The same time that Flacco was getting his monster raise, T.Brady was taking a pay cut to try keeping some talent around him. What happened to the Ravens after Flacco's huge raise? Attrition. Ray Lewis was going to retire way before the raise ever happened, but I have to think that some of the other players who are no longer there couldn't be paid by the Ravens because of Flaccos contract. The Ravens effectively took themselves out of competition for any kind of titles. I think it will be a looong time before they're relevant again.
It's a fairly reasonable argument that the cost of this contract will hurt the team in the long term. We are already seeing it happen this year. Ravens had limited flexibility and lost a lot of leadership on that defense for one, and as far as the "he just wins games", to this point he has lost more games than he has won this year, and the #s are UGLY in those losses.
He is not a Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning type of player.

I tend to agree with you. When he commented, "Im the quarterback. I want to be behind the line of scrimmage," he sounds like an entitled little prat. It's good to be a gamer and a leader, but be careful with how you phrase things.
It is technically a Wildcat package because Flacco is still in the game and Tyrod did split out wide and catch a pass, if I remember correctly. Tyrod adds a different dimension that most defenses do not prepare for during the week. But if anything, they're doing Flacco a favor leaving him on the field and creating this illusion; in essence, they could have benched Flacco for a few plays or a drive to accomplish the same goal of sparking the offense. That would have gone over like fart in church, given Flacco's reaction to what actually transpired.
Hey dude, if you want to take all of the snaps under center, start producing like you are expected to. Otherwise, shut your mouth and do what's best for the team. Christ, I'm not even a Ravens fan...
If GT can't beat Georgia this year, I don't know if PJ will ever beat them again. I know Aaron Murray never really got the credit he deserved at UGA for whatever reason, but he was the guy pulling them through the mud to be ranked as recently as two weeks ago with all of those injuries.
Without him, there is no reason that GT can not win that game. FSU should destroy Florida, and if not would perhaps be the biggest upset of the entire season in my opinion at this point. Vandy over Wake I feel is likely. Clemson and USCe might be the best game of the entire weekend (other then us pummleing UVA of course)

It's a waste of talent, and an unnecessary risk to an important investment. It's not like they're throwing wide receiver screens to the outside with Joe split out wide.

After graduating from VT, I lived with a couple of friends about 5 minutes off the University of Delaware campus and paid attention to him while he was there. Was rooting for him to do well then, but my opinion of him has changed quite a bit as well, in the negative direction.
I'm not gonna knock him for taking a huge deal. I say if someone is going to pay you the money, you take the money. But I had so many arguments with my Ravens friends (I am a Eagle fan myself), that his contract was way more than he was worth, was based on one postseason run, and would damage the franchise moving forward.
Seems to be going that direction. That team is a shell of itself right now.

No I'm mad more because of his arrogance. He's all about him and what he wants. He even said that he won't block. I remember watching one play where he was lined up as a receiver and he did his best Marcus Davis impression. It annoys me because he doesn't want to go all in for the team. He might have a point, and I realize that TT is his backup, but it's not about that. It's about his pure sense of entitlement.
I think 127 or 128 - Dad has the tickets at home, and cant remember where he told me they were. It is definitely behind the UVA side and a few sections from the hill end.

Unfortunately, Flacco is right. The wildcat is a fad, and it doesn't work in the NFL game, as we see time and time again. It's only effective very rarely as a changeup in a short-yardage situation, and really doesn't generate any more offense (typically much less), than a traditional NFL offense.
Let the reigning superbowl MVP have the ball, I think he's entitled to that.
