He's also found incredible ways to win.
That being said, this is a rebuilding year for us.
I don't think this was supposed to be a rebuilding year. We have lots of seniors on defense and a redshirt senior quarterback.
If anything, next year will be a rebuilding year with a younger defense and a first year quarterback.
you're assuming that Miami loses to FSU (a reasonable assumption) and that Duke loses to Miami (also a reasonable assumption) but we don't technically control our own destiny. If we win out we have a chance to win the division, but it's not guaranteed. We need help at this point.
Logan did look pretty good against Alabama. There were maybe 4 or 5 "bad throws" yet he only completed 5 passes on the game. I think you're overlooking that one. Not agreeing or disagreeing with you, but just pointing out the facts.
You have to list the OL as bad. BC was down two starting DL men and they still man handled the OL. I thought the run game would finally open up.
Thomas is a good qb but he is still learning the mental part of the position. If he had the mental part down he would be a great qb.
They kept showing one angle that made it look like maybe he touched it. In the first angle they showed, the ball goes straight between his hands. Because of the angle of the camera, it made it look like he touched it. Bad call; not indisputable. But based on our history, you know how that goes...
I think you and I watched different games. here's a list of players who played well on the offensive side of the ball:
- Josh Stanford
- Trey Edmunds
Willie Byrn would be in there too, but he got hurt.
I am excited that we can still win the Coastal! Not what we were hoping for this season, but what can you do? As long as we beat UVA, this season isn't a loss in my books.
That BC O-line took care of business though. Looked like a lot of smart tough blocking going on with their runs.
but was there INDISPUTABLE evidence that the ball WAS touched? It didn't look like it was touched to me. The ball came out wobbly when Thomas threw it before it got to the line. It didn't appear to me that anything about the flight of the ball changed after it was "touched". I think it was a really bad PI call and I think the refs were covering that up with a make up call. They made a bad call, but they didn't have indisputable evidence to overturn it if you ask me. I texted a friend of mine that video review never helps us out right before they announced the ruling. I wasn't surprised but I'm still pissed.
No it's not. I just responded on another thread to a similar comment you made. Our offensive guys around Logan are really not as bad as you Logan lovers make it seem. Not at all. I don't get how yall can keep saying that after our receivers and gameplans have gotten better.
In the two games this year that he's looked good (yes only two games. I know. Fuck) yall weren't talking badly of the of our receivers. No but that's because they're actually good when allowed to be. But then when Logan goes and throws games away for us, somehow it's because of the guys around him. Can't have it both ways.
I'm not a recruiting guy, but let's give them time to get playmakers before we freak out and scream for everyone's head. Frank made changes last year. Let's give it time to work. Constant change will not help.
That is what we need to keep in mind.
It is pretty ridiculous that if we won out however unlikely, we still would win the division barring a incredible late season surge from GT, Duke, or Pitt.
Meyer was in the game because Byrn got hurt. And look at the sheer number of freshmen starting/contributing. And these aren't 5-star guys either. That should tell you something. Logan is pretty much playing with a glorified HS all-star team. There were plenty of times today when Logan looked great, but his receivers or his line let him down. I'm not saying that was the case 100% of the time, but it was enough to the point where I can't completely blame Logan.
Yeah, I'm disappointed.
But, we are what we are.
I think our kids play hard....it's not a lack of effort.
To me, not trying is inexcusable.
But trying hard and getting beat is part of it.
So, we strap it on and try it again next week.
I thought, before Duke, if we can make it 1/2 with Duke/BC, then 1/2 with Miami/Maryland, and of course beat uva, I am more than satisfied.
I'll have to revise that a bit now.
But getting too down at this point does nothing.
We just have to play to win 'cause there's nothing to lose except pride at this point.
It isn't all on Logan.
Per this NFL rule guru:
VT/BC: Pass interference reviewed in replay. It was the touching of the pass that was reviewed. Since it was touched, there is no foul— Mike Pereira (@MikePereira) November 2, 2013
Glennon had a higher career completion percentage than Thomas. They both threw INTs at about the same clip (3% of their throws). Their yards/attempt is similar (7.4 YPA for Glennon, 7.1 for Thomas). It's entirely possible that Thomas is simply Glennon wearing a mask and this is all a plot for revenge.
The biggest difference between Glennon and Thomas as a passer is that one is hated while one gets every excuse in the book made for his play.
The sad thing for me that stanford said was this:
"The fans are quick to blame him."
The players know how the fans treat LT. If the players know this, the recruits know this.
So Logan was responsible for Meyer's drop and Knowles' deflection?
Yea there is no way Logan is worse that Glennon or Noel. Logan will be drafted. How far did those 2 scrubs make it in the pros.
4:20 pm full on drunk thoughts: (see game thread for half drunk thoughts)
1) I'm not going to even comment on the QB play. We've beat this horse to death (sorry Horse). Love it, hate it, accept it, deal with it? What ever your view, Logan will graduate at the end of the season. Don't become a shitty Hokie fan in the mean time.
2) A New Hope: So I've said it and I will say it again, I don't like Cody as a person. But damn! And I feel like a tool for saying this for the first time after his big game, but Josh5 has great potential.
3) The Empire Strikes Back: I've got to give props to BC. They run a Harbaugh, Stanford, 49er offence with many TEs. It was slow yet effective. They are doing good stuff up there.
4) Return of the Jedi: I invite you to a. sober up and give it 24 hours to cool down, and b. Return (get it? Return) to any of your preseason posts, thoughts, and comments about where we might be on offence. We thought the line was a disaster, no receivers, lost Ryan at TE, running back questions. We are seeing the team we expected to see. We MUST have patience and trust in the new staff. I'm not a recruiting guy, but let's give them time to get playmakers before we freak out and scream for everyone's head. Frank made changes last year. Let's give it time to work. Constant change will not help.
That's something when today's offensive MVP (arguably) can stand up for the QB like that.
Honestly, that says as much about Stanford as it does LT. I don't think I'd ever see statements like those from Marcus Davis.
Yall Logan lovers make it seem like our offensive players are just complete trash and Logan is out there looking around with the Eli Manning face hoping he can get some help. That's really not the case and I think we all know that. When Logan played well, our offensive guys looked good because they were given the opportunity to do so. Even today, nobody on our offense looked as bad as Logan did. (Maybe Charley Meyer did but why the fuck was he even in the game in the first place. Meyer is irrelevant). Nobody on our offense played worse than Logan Thomas did this week or last week. If you disagree then I don't think you understand how football works.

I would agree with that statement. I do believe he is one of the wort QBs in our programs history, but I will say he is not a true qb, he is a tight end and will always be a tight end. I personally don't thin he should have ever been placed at qb for us. He was decent at best when he had two of the top wife outs in school history and he was still inconsistent. He also crumbled on one of the biggest games against Clemson that year. He didn't have to be a leader that season because we had mostly veterans and we also dw4 which was always a threat to take it to the house.
Last season was a mockery of vt football and this season is shaping up to be the same thing. I do not believe Logan has it in him to lead us to the ACC title game. Glendon can at least say that. Now not al, of this can be put on Logan. I would say a dent percentage is on the coaches. Logan can't help what play is being called and he can't help that the coaches won't utilize me of the best backs we have. The coaches have abandoned the run game sp all the defense has to do is drop 8 and bait Logan into a bad throw. Now secondly he doesn't have much to work with, one senior wr and one standout in Stanford. I believe Coles has let our team down just as much as Logan has. It should have been Logan to Coles all year long but we know that Coles has the work ethic of Marcus Davis. Also being said a qb has to find a way to win even if things are stacked up against him. It's what QBs are supposed to do. Find a way and will your team to a win no matter what the circumstances. I think all around from coaches to players to athletic directors have let the fans down.
