The strange thing is Loeffler said the same thing before the season started. He said he didn't want to run his QB too much so that he would still be standing at the end of the season. This has always been one of the strengths of a pro-style offense, to limit the QB as a runner to keep him healthy.
I don't know why Loeffler has changed his tune, but Logan isn't a great runner anyway and should stick to throwing the ball in all but short-yardage situations.

i've been thinking about next year's qb situation. knowing how beamerco does things, unless ford comes in and just lights the world on fire i feel like leal's gonna be the guy. you always hear that if you have a freshman and an underclassman who are equal, you play the freshman. but what if the freshman isnt that far behind? i guess my question is would a coach possibly sacrifice a few wins now if it meant getting the young guy more reps going forward? ford would obviously be better as a senior if he was a four year starter, but there's gonna be some growing pains. leal would be the safer choice but would it be more advantageous in the long run to let andrew take his lumps and learn from them? or is the win now mentality that engrained?

i know motley or hodges could surprise everybody and be the starter going into 2014, but the presumption among hokienation seems to be it's either gonna be ford or leal.

Our own announcer last year called Marquis Rankin, Marquis Grissom. Twice! Now whenever I hear anyone talking about Rankin, that is all I ever think of.

Edmunds is playing Running back because he wants to play running back, not because the coaches are making him play there. If I remember correctly the coaches promised him a shot at Running Back during recruiting.

Don't take it to heart. If the reminder didn't apply to you, ignore it. I didn't have the time to look at every single comment that was voted on, so my numbers didn't have context of the comments themselves. After sending the email, I thought about another way to analyze, looking at the ratio of the comments' up:down, but honestly I don't have the time to keep investing in this.

At the end of the day, a down vote doesn't mean much, unless they come in volume, in which case they are probably deserved. There have only been 3 accounts banned (they dropped under the -25 turkey legs) necessary to do anything in the website. In all 3 cases it was deserved.

I wonder what would happen if we lined up someone who is both fast and strong out there with Knowles on kickoffs. I'm thinking of Trey. If opponents will always kick at Knowles because they're not afraid of him, that means Trey immediately becomes a blocker. Based on the physicality he has shown thus far, I wonder if he could be a good blocker.

The blocking I think has contributed the most to KJ not breaking anything. He had a taste of the endzone last year and now he is thinking about it every time instead of just getting the easy yards. I think the teams know he is itching to take one to the house so they punt it a little shorter than normal and dare him to not fair catch it. Too many times, guys are right on him and he isn't aware. Kendall would be a good one to try out there, but I'm fine with KJ back there on punt return...

...Not so much with Knowles. Teams kick right at Demetri because he runs so timidly. JC is always back there with him and nobody kicks it his way. I have to imagine just about anyone on the roster could do a better job than Knowles right now.

it added to the roughness. we had been arguing in the stands because she wanted to leave at halftime, but she was a trooper. the near vehicular manslaughter was just one thing in a cascade of events that happened that day/night.

Not French, but I'll take a crack at question #1. Looking just at the QB situation Loefler had last year:
The QB who started the first 5 games of the year is now at either safety or receiver (listed as a WR on roster, but description says he moved to safety) and performed poorly. To quote one of Mason's articles from earlier this year, " If Loeffler's offensive system is going to work, the QB HAS to hit wide open receivers. Sadly, it [became] obvious that Kiehl Frazier couldn't." Loeffler eventually turned to a Junior who is no longer with the Football Team and eventually to a True Freshman QB who had more success, but I suspect wasn't ready to play early in the season.

Of the 5 players currently listed as QBs on their roster, the current starter is a Junior College transfer who wasn't available when Loefler was there, The next most experienced QB is a Sophomore who started the final 4 games for Auburn last year and "set AU freshman record for QB efficiency at 139.60" under Loeffler's Tutelage.
Turning our attention to the rushing numbers, during his tenure as Auburn's OC, they actually put up respectable numbers. The team as a whole averaged 4.1 yards per attempt and had 16 rushing Touchdowns. If you look solely at the two players with more than 50 attempts, Tre Mason who had 171 carries averaged 5.9 yards per attempt and Onterio McCaleb who had 94 carries averaged 6.1. I think the biggest reason for the difference in rushing yardage compared to this year's Hokies is that Grimes had been there 4 years so the linemen who were there knew his blocking schemes and had more experience running them and/or many of them were his recruits.

Finally a topic about coaching. I'm not a football expert or even close, but I'm a former athlete so there are a few things I understand. Most cases in sports, life, education...whatever; there is a top 10% a bottom 10% and everyone in between. Opportunity and situation will then create the perception of the middle 80%. When you recruit blue chips u're better positioned to tap into the top 10%. Generally, most teams/players fall in the middle 80%. I've always argued that talent is about 20% relevance to winning and coaching/development is about 80%.

We argue constantly about talent this and recruiting that, but I don't buy the hype. Guz Malzahn to me is at the very top of offensive minds. While everyone gives Loefler a pass for not "coaching with his own guys", Malzahn arrived to Auburn in 2009 and IMMEDIATELY turned an Auburn offense ranked 110th in the prior season into the 16th ranked offense in the country with someone else's guys; and then did it again this year. He did it at Tulsa and he's done it everywhere else regardless of talent. Tyrod Taylor to me is a better talent than Tajh Boyd; yet they're perceived completely differently, due to coaching and offensive schematics (pun intended). Chris Petersen on the other hand has been stuck in a recruiter's worst nightmare. Just think about trying to convince a bluechip recruits from Cali to show up to this small school in IDAHO; still he wins.

Ultimately I think Beamer is a great coach for many reasons, he is well respected by his unit and keeps his staff together. But I don't believe he has fully accepted that he needs to take that plunge offensively. He's never been an offensive mind and doesn't quite value the importance of an efficient offense; it's clear. Like a manager his perceived responsibilities are to the unit as a whole and not the sum of its parts; this is what frustrates fans sometimes. Due to his vaunted defense, he literally had to have his arm twisted to decide Stiney wasn't good enough, so NO, I don't trust his judgement when it comes to offense.

Not saying Loefler isn't going to be a good coach, but when you settle for a middle of the road guy (which he is at this point, just facts), u're increasingly dependent on getting as many of the top 10% of recruiting as possible. All those 2/3 star OL and WRs we picked up aren't the answer; we have those already.

While a Loefler is dependent on blue chip recruits, I think he offers upside in QB recruiting. He will likely be able to eventually land that PREMIER-QB, which can make all the difference.

(My opinions are not and should not be mistaken as facts)

That was the one game my training company got to sit near the front row (I think we were second row) and I just remember pointing at the guy wide open and seeing the ball go right over Orion Martin's hands with Adibi not far behind. (Orion was a DE so if he was back there, no way you can't say it wasn't prevent D). That was the most awkward and depressing walk back to the dorms ever. I remember going to squires and then class the next morning and thinking of how quite the campus was.

Hell hath no fury like a woman squished.

Was it a rough night because you almost ran your wife over? Or did you almost run your wife over because it was a rough night?

Just for the sake of clarity.

Yea, along the downvote for Wahoo-talk lines, I usually only downvote for horribly negative posts or when people are going back and forth at each other. I feel as if having an objective, slightly positive viewpoint on things in this forum just makes the forums a friendlier place, and that led to getting one of the emails....so in that case, I just won't vote on anything anymore.

I've never met a two-dollar hooker. But if she had actual turkey legs, like the ones you can buy at football games...I'd give it a go.

i was in the south end zone. i saw the ball in the air and rb wheeling around to the back of the end zone with no one even looking at him. i sat down and put my head in my hands before the catch was made and heard the air come out of the stadium. i looked to my right and saw the small bc section losing their shit. it was a quiet walk back to my truck. then i almost ran my wife over, it was a rough night.

Sounds like you'll be an outstanding TKP voter. Have a leg on me to get you one closer.

I don't enough turkey legs to either up or down vote anyone. (sniffles and whining follows)

If I did have a vote, I would up vote all those who make me smile, laugh or help me forget about the pain I feel when my beloved "Hokies" lose.
A down vote wil follow for anyone who decides to attack the players who honor us with wearing any VT helmet or uniform (even all orange).
A one month tkp ban should follow for anyone who uses the word Chokie, unless to say please do not use this word, ever! Go Hokies, Beat BC! PLEASE.
My poor family cannot take another Sunday like the last one......

i remember a couple of years ago the bball team was playing up at bc and the announcer kept calling terrell bell tyreke. he did it for like the entire game. then he commented on our unique color scheme and burnt maroon jerseys. jesus dude take a few minutes before the game and read the media guide.

I didn't watch much of the game, was it worse than Todd Blackledge calling him AXEUM?
