yeah he made the 'L' after big plays, not sure if he still does. it's funny, i dont remember him doing it against us. . .
If we're not getting all the talent in the state now I doubt we get any more with UVA getting better. It's likely that they'd just choose UVA over us anyway in that case.
I guess maybe you could argue a big rivalry matchup with UVA every year could make us more attractive to some in state recruits but I think we're talking one or two every few years. To me at least, that's not significant.
Ugh. That definitely changes the complexion of his quotes in the Reilly article. I wonder if the same holds for the high school folks he talked to.
It's just all kinds of hilarious that zima is his go to bottle. Maybe he said it in jest but I feel like most people would say beer bottles (especially since zima isnt in the US anymore)
Miami > Duke
I disagree with the 'fortunately' characterization. Dabo knows what Clemson's bread and butter is. I think part of being a great coach, or an effective organizational leader is identifying potential, developing talent, and then getting out of their way so your top people can perform. He doesn't have to be a great X's-and-O's coach when he has Morris and Venables as coordinators, and he knows that Clemson's success is built on how those guys teach the game to players who are, by and large, very talented.
Some coaches have egos that prevent them from letting go of the day-to-day coaching activities on the field, while Dabo appears to have very little ego getting in the way of hiring great coordinators, paying them what they deserve, and getting out of the way. He may not be a football genius, but he maintains the structure of the organization, can motivate and recruit, and I think should be seen more as a program director than coach. And it's been working for them, by and large, so...
they dont make it anymore, but it's fun to talk smack.
UVA being better and having a more competitive rivalry would make some of the talent leaving the state want to play for one or the other. Lets all not forget that ugly stat we don't like seeing which is our record vs the top 5 ranked teams. We need to keep the top VA talent at home for US to be more competitive on the national stage if that means splitting more with LOLUVA so be it but we have in state talent we are losing because there is no rivalry at all right now!
DOOK
After the loss:
HD: "What went wrong?"
Gayle: "Steve703VT said we could just cruise straight to the ACCCG"
Nicely put. Can I use that one in the future?

You've definitely got me beat in the metaphor category. I can't go anywhere near that one.
If James Gayle came on here and told us to stop looking ahead I would not post another sentence the rest of the week that did not contain the word Duke in it.
What national titles?

Yikes. If you think Tyrod was the biggest problem in the Stanford game then I don't know what game you were watching. The Stanford D was in the backfield the second the ball was snapped every single play.
yeah but then reilly's father-in-law came out and said he was misquoted and rick fundamentally misunderstood what he was trying to say (imagine).

Exactly.
The state of Virginia has enough football talent to support a program with national title aspirations... but not two. If Tech wants to win a title for Beamer it has to start getting some top notch recruiting classes, either by demolishing everyone else in state or by successfully picking up their out of state targets. The new coaches are doing a great job at with recruiting this year, but they'll bring in even more talent if UVA isn't a serious threat on the recruiting trail in state.
But what if James Gayle says to his teammates this weekend..."Dudes, we can just cruise the rest of the way. Steve703VT said so. I read his stuff on the internet all the time. He's legit."
Didn't think about that, did you?
I guess we could categorize it as Clemsoning.
Remember how good they were in 2011? ...and what happened in the Orange Bowl that year against West Virginia.
...I'm pretty sure West Virginia is still scoring.
London really needs to stay at UVA. I can't stress that enough.
Notre Dame was a consistent top 25 team when USC was winning those titles, though. Most classified them as a rival.
No offense taken. There's no crying on the internet. I'm just knocking on wood. Very superstitious. That is all.
BTW, the Rita Hayworth GIF makes me want to put on my fedora, crank the Delorean up to 88 mph, and head back to 1947...pronto.
