LSU replaced Auburn, thats why i feel like the lack of a true rival in auburn was offset by the fact that the SEC was just that good at that time

I think as long as we play some sort of marquee rival we will be fine. I would rather LOLUVA continue to be bad and play a tough Miami or GT.

Look at the SEC in general. UCLA and USC have been down in recent years, but other teams in the conference ie. Oregon, are solid. We don't need UVA specifically to be good, just another opponent we play every year.

You're telling me he seriously does that? A player from the LOLHOOniversity ChuckleBunnies American Football team?

That'd be like a field-goal kicker with a rap-sheet tattooing his own initials on his arms.

(Fess up -- this embarrasses you too.)

We've got Miami, Clemson, Georgia Tech, and FSU to pick up where UVA is slacking. Not to mention we have a renewal of the WVU rivalry coming up and a game against Tennessee which should be interesting.

We don't need UVA to be relevant, we just need to win. They can either step it up or be content with being our doormat. There call.

Thank you. Made an account just to say that. Why take the fun out of being a fan. I'm not changing anything by playing out as many scenarios as possible, or desiring to see a smaller number next to VT. For those of us who have friends at many different school across the country, it's the only "objective" way to say we're better than you. It's all in fun.

Disagree. At the height of USC's power, UCLA was a doormat. Bama is currently at the height of their power, and outside of the one fluke year of Cam, Auburn has been a dumpster fire.

You mean London or the OP?

I'd say, yes, London needs to stay at UVA. It is clear to me now that UVA's desire to go private is to make more money, which is needed due to massive mismanagement where they dramatically overpay for mediocre-to-poor results. If they have such a great law school, who suggested that London should have been given a binding contract extension? Or am I thinking of someone else?

If you were talking about the OP, no, I think he should transfer to VT. We're always considering adding more logical engineer/analyst types. Transfer to VT and go IE or STAT, friend.

He stays= LOLUVA keeps doing poorly. While I think it's hilarious what he has done to the program, I'm all for him staying as a hokie fan/student.

Excellent look, SlapSwimRip. Turkey leg upvote like.

After posting something along these lines many times:

"Clemsoning is when you get beat by an inferior opponent or when you start highly rated and then experience a downward spiral, erasing yourself from the national conversation"

I'm starting to rethink this definition. While I still think the above is true, I'm beginning to think that Clemsoning is simply when the pressure of the expectations turns into fear of losing. Clemson's fan base has been through this so many times, I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't just a feeling in the air down there when the fans expect the team to take a downturn. This, in my theory, wears on the nerves of the team, they come out nervous, even timid, and nothing seems to go their way.

When we beat them at their place in 2007, this is the way it worked then, too. It was a night game. Clemson was highly touted. They came out flat. We scored on defense and special teams. And by the middle of the second quarter, the stands were empty and Clemson had folded.

Famous Jameis Winston hasn't met a Bud Foster defense yet. Hopefully, we'll arrange a get together soon.

Yeah, the hype was intense. I've seen us seem to wilt under pressure before, but Bud foster will suit up himself before he lets the defense pack it in and allow the opponent to score 50-70 points on us. That kind of whipping can't be good for the mental state of your program.

The article was by Rick Reilly on ESPN. Interesting read, although he mainly talks to his father-in-law and extrapolates that to be opinion of an entire people. I thought the most interesting part was how his father-in-law was more offended by the Chiefs than other team names. Basically he says call me what you want, but don't give yourself a title you haven't earned.

When I saw that clip of him in the Locker room it was astonishing. The Fact that a RS Freshmen has THAT much respect with the older guys and that he was SO confident as a 19 yr old is scary to me as a rival football fan. FSU looks REAL good.

As I was watching the ridiculous ESPN pregame leading up to kickoff, I just knew we were about to watch a "Clemsoning"

Weeks of hype, full TV coverage of the dang bus ride from the locker room, cameras everywhere and fans going nuts...and then they cut to the FSU locker room and this 19 year old kid is doing what looked to be some sort of Cosby impression and laughing with his teammates.

Knew right at that moment that FSU was winning. Clemson has built a heck of a squad down there, but this stage got too big for them

Well you're not a coach and neither are we. We'll continue to look ahead and play that "what if" game because it is fun. If you want to focus on Duke, fine. That's your choice. Please read all the posts that involve Duke and only Duke and provide great comments and good discussion.

This whole "we should be focusing on this week" argument has been made about a million times at this point and it adds nothing to this discussion. If you don't like what we're talking about, you don't need to add to the conversation.

Sorry, I'm not trying to come off harsh here, I can see where this point of view comes from, it's just getting really old really quickly.

I'm tired of all the projections, scenarios, what-if threads on this site. As fans, we shouldn't look forward at all or have fun with random scenarios and what-ifs. As fans on threads like these, we should comment, "Cut it out. We have to focus on (insert team we're playing this week)" in order to get as many upvotes as possible. Or for upvotes you can try, "Let's just get past (insert team we're playing this week) because they'll get after ya."

As fans, we should ignore the fact that we have arguably the best defense in the nation, ignore the fact that we've only had one loss this season by the hands of the back to back nat'l champs. We have to ignore the fact we can beat every team on our schedule and we always have to be scared that success will make our players not want to win. Also, we always have to think that teams at the bottom of the acc like duke and bc can beat us. C'mon guys, get with it.

As fans, not players or coaches, the only thing we should focus on is the team we play this week, Duke. Because as fans, not players or coaches, if we start to look ahead then the players and coaches won't do their jobs right and we'll lose and it will be all of our faults for looking ahead, even though we're not players or coaches.
