I don't think LSU didn't show up, they just aren't that good on defense compared to what they have been in the past.
can you link me to this LOLUVA vid please?
edit nevermind i'm an idiot.
I agree. The way Clemson finished that season, topped off by getting annihilated by the cousins, is the absolute definition of Clemsoning, and it looked way worse for the conference because of when and how it happened.
It's an entertaining read, but I'll disagree with the author. The Urban Dictionary definition of Clemsoning/Pulling a Clemson is the way I learned it, so this one game doesn't qualify. They may have dropped a steaming pile of Hoo on the field last night, but the only way it's Clemsoning is if they lose to Maryland in a hangover game, or somehow drop any other ACC game (or, well, The Citadel).
It was totally excellent! Enjoyed every second!
Well yes obviously that would be the ideal case. The lack of offensive production by our offense has helped out other defenses ratings. But the issue is that the stats are 100x more difficult to compile. Unfortunately, I'm not ESPN stats and Info, and everything would need to be compiled by hand. It's something for the offseason, but I don't think it's something you can do week to week without needing 3+ hours which I do not have. I took about 15 minutes to look all those numbers up, and I figured it would get the general point across that aTm really has not proven anything more than VT has. In fact, they appear to be less proven than the Hokies.
Clemson was done by Q2.
Clemson Clemsoned. It's just that it was to FSU.
Yessir and the LOLUVA bopper vid is nuts
They did turn the ball over enough to call it imploding lol
What if LSU had just showed up fired up to play a football game..it would have been a route.
Yup, that is the perception of greatest in box score rankings.
The only potential problems for FSU are (1) they already have 24 commits for next year, so it's getting tight and (2) they already have 5 other DTs committed.
Didn't FSU already sign like 3 4* D lineman in this class? Geez, I'd figure this helps our chances somewhat with Dnadi, but who knows, FSU is playing lights out right now and the only potential thing in their way is the Hokie D!
I thought the red zone was the 20, no?
All of these numbers that are compiled for a team, in my opinion, should rule out the opponent in question. For the VT vs. ATM numbers, for example:
ATM's opponents' defenses are rated including ATM's numbers, which, on offense, are pretty good. I think we should remove the game played against ATM to get a better feel for how the defenses performed against teams not named ATM. Same goes for the defense. If those teams hadn't played ATM, or if their games against ATM weren't counted in the numbers, how would they be ranked? Since ATM doesn't have much of a defense to speak of, I'd think their offensive rankings would be worse.
VT has a great defense and a work-in-process offense. If the teams we played hadn't had our offensive number to - ahem - improve their defensive statistics, how would they fare? If teams hadn't played against our defense, where would their offenses be ranked?
I've seen the rankings for an offense/defense cited many times, and, to be honest, I think the best gauge of a team's unit's performance against another team's opposing unit are most accurate before they play because there has been no effect on their statistics/rankings based on the opponent in question. After they play, the effect of their in-game performance is always taken into account.
Having said that, I like the points you make and the research you did. Turkey leg.
Not complaining, I just get driven crazy by highly-paid coaches completely mangling something that isn't that hard.
I don't think we have a defensive player fast enough for Greene and I don't think we have a defensive back big enough for Kelvin Benjamin. Even Winston's mistakes can turn into big plays a la Manziel getting bailed out by Mike Evans ALL THE DAMN TIME
While the $$ may be less next year in many cases these things are negotiated payouts (so much over so many years) that the cash flow isn't that big a hit.
The only high cards in TimeCop's hand are Blanding and Brown. If they bail before the end of the season he's toast. Having them signed might be attractive to a good coach.
I'm glad we don't have to play them. FSU is obviously the better team, but at the same time I think we match up better against them.
and because theyre LOLuva they dont care about winning in the interim
Still fun to watch, but also a bummer we likely won't have a shot at them
I was checking out cfbstats, and another pretty sweet stat about our defense is that we are currently tied at #1 in the nation with Alabama for redzone attempts at 11. The fact that opponents have only been inside our 25 yard line 11 times in 7 games is simply ridiculous. If you add to that, it would actually be 1 less due to the fact that we have turned the ball over inside our 25 at least once this year(could be more, I only remember the muffed punt vs WCU).
WE need to dominate DUKE with our Defense Saturday and also get our running game back on track. The polls will take care of themselves over the next couple of months. As long as we keep winning (even ugly), the hokies will continue to get some love. Go Hokies, Dominate Dukies!
I get that, but they jumped from what.. 24th to 5th in a matter of two weeks based off the fact that they beat a heavily injured uga team and even Florida had some defensive starters out this week
I'm not sold on mizzou in the slightest yet
Add to that, I think both florida and uga were overrated to begin with.

But of course:
