The Hokies would go from legit National Title contenders in late October to unranked by the bowl game.
It was starting to get pretty ridiculous and it was happening to some of the more talented teams of the Beamer era.
Thankfully, that ship sailed with the 2004 team. But those teams left such a mark, that I get anxiety for pretty much every late regular season game.
Was doing it last week at the UNC game. Group of about 5-7 of us in the NEZ
1) Alabama
2) Oregon (thinks they beat Stanford)
3) Clemson (thinks they beat Florida State)
4) Baylor (they have the talent to run the Big 12 - Oklahoma is very beatable)
5) Ohio State - given the benefit of the doubt because of the name on the front of the jerseys and the coach on the sidelines. In the "what have you done for me recently" category - they haven't played a top 15 team since the middle of 2011. 4 awful OOC games this year. Cant do that this year in the BIG 10.
If either Alabama, Ore/Stan, Clem/Fl St, Okla/Baylor is undefeated at the end of the season, I'm leaving the buckeyes out.

Pitt
I have 6 VT/Pitt games live. We are 3-3 in those matchups. I am glad I am not going to this one as lately I have only seen us loose. Those games do include the 2004 game, BCO. Me and you are the old ones. Pitt scares me and I think we play down to their level, which is close to our. I haven't seen our running game in a while. Tom Savage is becoming a good QB, sometimes it takes 5 schools to find the right fit. I think our D hold him in check but we win in a close one.
Oklahoma
The Red River SHOOTOUT. A storied rivalry that is thrust upon us. Not to mention the fried everything that can be had at this game. Texas is worse than they look and Stoops and his team score as many as they can.
LSU
UF has the best defense in the country. LSU has a great defense and a surprisingly good offense. While the game should be close, LSU should win by 10. The mad hatter is too good.
Oregon
A lot of people are picking uDub. That says to me take Oregon. Oregon starters haven't played a full game all year. Not sure you can call the loluva game more than a scrimmage. This is a rivalry game and while uDub has a good D, Oregon will rip it apart. Also, their cheerleaders rocks, i haz sadz there is no picture.
Texas A&M
Manziel > Bo Wallace. aTm should kill them and Johnny Football will be sipping vodka filled water bottles by the start of the 4th quarter.

Ok, let me be way out of line but after all the shuckin' and jivin'is complete I have full faith in Foster and Beamer in being the true visionaries in the evolution of defenses and offenses and I just want to beat those Bas$%^@#$s from PITT and give me a GO#$$#@%% win.
I want to slather in the perfection that is the Foster smart and reactive defense and the Offense that just gets us enough to win.

David and Coughlin are both thinking it isn't too serious. David thinks he will be back this week, Coughlin thinks it will be a month. Also David has basically said he will play no matter what, this is what he loves, it is a sacrifice he wants to make, etc. It will be interesting to see how this develops. Apparently he tried to sneak on the field before they took his MRI at the stadium.

Sorry for being stupid, but can I ask the stupid question?: How is this whole playoff thing going to work? Originally I liked the idea that the top 4 could battle it out. But now we have some sort of March Madness committee picking teams. Are there still rankings and polls? Or do you just cross your fingers and hope?

Tough call on #4 between Clemson, FSU, OSU and Stanford. A&M doesn't have the defense to be top 4 (see: Bama game) and Clemson and Stanford haven't looked overly impressive the past two weeks. Regardless Oregon better win the title this year (if we don't, of course).
Hopefully it's not severe, but either way this is rotten news :(

edit: I will say this much: November is when the old Hokies would come alive and this team is looking like those older years. When November is over, the hokies are arguably a top 10 opponent regardless of record. I wish we could have one the championship in the BCS format, but I think the playoffs were long overdue and will be much more beneficial.
