That's the part that keeps me from thinking he was serious.
According to TSL's TTL notes, Beamer had a nice little chat with Gibson on Sunday. Hopefully we'll see a little bit more of/from him going forward.
Fan-freaking-tastic.
2012: VT had 30:07 minutes possession/game
2013: VT had 31:21 minutes possession/game
They've had the ball a little more this year but they had the ball plenty last year. TOP in some ways is a measurement of the defense as much as the offense, because if defense is able to get off the field quickly the offense will have the ball more.
To be honest, after seeing Bucky compared to Motley and Leal during the Fall, I wouldn't be opposed to him moving to TE if he could contribute there. Lots of mechanical issues to work out and the ball just doesn't seem to come out of his hand quite right. Add in that Ford is coming in as polished of a passer as we've ever seen at VT, and it looks like QB might not work out that great for Bucky. Then again, I had the same thoughts about Motley after last fall and he came out of nowhere with a cannon, so ya never know.
I..just..died! Hilarious!
Before I read your post again and roll on the floor with laughter, I'm just happy we have an OC who can recruit (and land) a good HS QB. Logan is playing QB because BS missed on every QB talent in Virginia. Most of the ACC has been led by Virginia HS QBs (NC St had two, not to mention out-of-state programs like Penn St and Stanford) and we missed out on EVERY SINGLE ONE.
I guess that Jar-Jar voice can only take you so far when in comes to landing a talented HS QB.
This may not be a very popular opinion, but here goes.
I think Stinespring had the right idea for two or three years before the arrival of Loeffler and Company, in implementing the pro-style/multiple offense scheme. The problem was, I think, he didn't have a solid understanding of how to properly implement the scheme and teach it. I thought that Loeffler would get rid of the pistol, for example, but was stunned to find him still using it, but adding his own flair to the pistol.
Second, keeping Curt Newsome was the dumbest decision Beamer made when mounting evidences pointed to Newsome as an incompetent coach, and that was a detriment to Stinespring. I'm going to use Wang for an example because this year Wang is 10x better than last year Wang who seem to have been coached to bunny hop out of his stance instead of exploding out of his stance. Plus, his transition to being a center as a long-time bunny hopping guard was a gutsy move on Grimes' part which is paying dividends. If there was ever a TKP Most Improved Award, Wang would win in a landslide.
Then lets talk about Logan. The Logan of 2011 had Danny Coale (sniff, sniff I miss him), Jarrett Boykin, Chris Drager (#DRAGERBOMB), David Wilson, and a senior dominated offensive line. The Logan of 2012 was a disaster. Poor coaching (I refuse to blame it on George Whitfield because his record seem to indicate otherwise) by O'Cain and a confusing, illogical play calling led to numerous of breakdowns. This year, we are seeing the Logan that some analysts thought he was before 2012. So far, not one ESPN's experts are anointing him as a top ten quarterbacks. That might be advantageous because the current crops of NFL super quarterbacks have been drafted in later rounds and turned out to be elite. I'm not saying Thomas may become elite by any means, but I think he could blossom under the right system and coaching.
So, I think Stiney had the right idea, just was really, really bad at scheming and making in-game adjustments.
"Not so fast my friend!"
I think Bucky gets a fair shot at QB, and Loeffler picks the best guy regardless. There's gonna be a QB competition next year, and possibly one the year after that. Bucky's (and Motley's) athleticism brings a lot to the table, and Loeffler's is not one to shy away from running the QB if that's what the defense gives. If Bucky or Brandon outshine the new Ford, he'll be parked on the bench for a year or two.
Should add time of possession to that. I feel that the offense is definitely taking more clock up this year.
Also, I also wonder if SOS would come into play. I think that we have had a bit tougher first 6 games this year than last. Austin Peay certainly allows for some score run up.
So if this Wang is blue for more than 4 hours, should he see a doctor?
I'm pretty sure Ryan wouldn't mind strapping on some pads and going out there either though. Him and Graves both look like they could still play. I guess getting paid to work out does that to a body.
Also, Pitt defensive tackle #97 Aaron Donald might be the best defensive tackle that the Hokies will face all season. Pitt can be hurt by the run (Duke killed them with read option) but Donald can completely shut down the middle which allows less talented defenders to make plays around him.
The best production from the running game came from the unit of McLaughlin-Farris-Wang-Miller-Gibson. Benedict has played really well since being inserted, but the overall production (yards per carry) has gone down since the change was made. At the same time, when Farris has moved to center and Benedict moved to left guard with Gibson at tackle, or when Alson Smith played left guard and Farris at center, they have struggled even more.
Farris has been outstanding (their best lineman this season and the most dependable guy pulling on the inverted veer and power play over the last two games) but he has had issues with the center-quarterback exchange last season and this season. Also, with all due respect to MARK Shuman (come on Robertson) and Alston Smith, I don't envision both being able to pull as effectively as Farris and Logan seems to be much more comfortable running inverted veer to the right instead of running left with Andrew Miller pulling.
Correct me if I'm wrong but after the play, EVERYBODY stands around.
Bitter just tweeted that he is there again on the scout team. Made sense last week, preparing for a scary TE in Ebron. Anyone know if Pitt has a scary good (and tall) TE? I just know about the two superb wideouts (Street and Boyd). If not, maybe they are already easing him into a TE role, and the QB race in '14 and beyond will be between Leal, Motley, and Ford... Not that I know anything, but that kind of excites me, given Hodge's athleticism, and the criticism of his throwing motion floating around TKP and other places...
When I travel up to Madison Square Garden for Rangers games, there are always about 300 large men spread throughout the arena who do nothing but yell "shoot the puck" every time a defenseman has the puck on a power play, and yells "HIT SOMEBODY" every second the other team has possession.
Take into account he is also physically beat up. They used him as a sledgehammer over the first few games and he had not faced game contact in over a year (and that contact was against Single A VHSL competition.)
Baltimore obviously doesn't mind.
82 is Garner, but the guy that shredded us last year was Mike Shanahan. Fortunately he graduated and isn't there anymore.
I can't say I'm missing all last year's sacks on Logan with just a 3 or 4 man rush against 5 blockers, where a DL (or two. Or three...) would just come through untouched.
Not missing that at all.
An occasional one still happens here and there, but it sure seems like pass protect is just fundamentally better this year.
However many Turkey legs this gets is what the final score of this years game against LOLUVa is gonna be
Not good. The running game really seems to struggle when he's out. But props to Grimey for coaching up others to shuffle around, when needed. The pocket protection is definitely much-improved; a freaking 84-yard pass from shotgun thrown from our own goal zone!
The title of your post had me cracking up to begin with! Gibson must have some "Allen Iverson" type practice issues anyone have any scoop as I've seen mentioned several times that he needs to practice better.
This year: 14-21 scoring in the red zone (67%), 12-21 TDs in the red zone (57%)
2012: 36-41 scoring in the red zone (88%), 21-41 TDs in the red zone (51%)
Even if VT were 6-9 at FGs this year (I think there were 3 missed red zone FGs) instead of 3-9 their overall scoring percentage would be 80%. The TD percentage is a little better but not jarring.
One improvement that's noticeable is the fumbles- last year's offense had 29 fumbles on the season (recovering 20 of them). So far the offense has only 4 fumbles.

I assume you saw ManBearPig trying to run back the ball against Marshall? You want that speed carrying the ball?
