Brings a smile to my face to think that for another 2+ years they will be saying the same thing just replacing "Kyle
with "Kendall".
I didn't watch the entire UNC vs. USCe game, from what I saw, Clowney looked to be tired and giving less than 100% effort. I don't want to take anything away from Hurst, but our DL playing with the tenacity and motor that they can and have played with I think will be a greater challenge. I have no doubt that Wiles has told Gayle something to get him riled up as he has already done previously this year.
Only a 2* but he was a July commit back in 2005. Back then, if you didn't make it to September, you didn't accumulate any offers. Most offers went out in the camps in the summer. Now, the offers go out in March/April.
Rock only had VT as a verified offer but interest from a number of schools like Georgia, UVA, UMD.
2005 recruiting analysis pales in comparison to 2012 coverage. But 2005 was way better than 2000 which was a NASA like improvement over 1995. Every year, recruiting coverage is getting better. That said, there are blind spots in the system. In particular, the Kalvin Cline example of a kid who doesn't even play HS football until he's a senior really goes against the system. Senior offers are something that teams should continue to exploit because it captures more later-bloomers. Kam Chancellor is a classic example.
Kyle's read plenty of his own headlines over his time at Tech. He hasn't gotten a swelled head yet - why would he start now?
Gayle was outstanding against East Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Alabama. However, against WCU and Marshall, he got hurries but was far too easily pushed up field and past the pocket. I think his shoulder injury contributed somewhat to that struggle against Marshall, but a player of his ability has to be more productive and finish plays. He was the worst DL versus Marshall, and for a player with his physical gifts that just isn't good enough, especially when he looks like a monster the next week. Remember, we went through this with Gayle the last two seasons as well. Some games he looks terrific (always against UVA) and other games he is invisible rushing the passer. (To his credit, he is always excellent against the run.)
Heck was whipped often by Derrell Johnson, especially on inside power moves. Gayle has not flashed his rip technique much this year, but with so much film of him getting way up field, if he uses it this week it could lead to some sacks.
But...ESPN hates VT. Just look at HD, right? She obviously hates us and we never get College Gameday anymore so ESPN hates everything about VT

Wow. I hope we have a very successful first quarter against them offensively, because I think they're at a tipping point. If they get frustrated early, quitting might be in the realm of possibility.
Cobbler: a vessel to eat melted ice cream
right, "recruit" wth a chance to earn a scholarship. And they are the lottery ticket of lottery tickets. We may take 5 2* recruits over a 5 year period with the hope that 2 of them "produce" (not start, not All-ACC). We take 10+ recruited walk ons a year and 3 out of 10 are still with the team 12 months later.
but damn its fun to see Jack Tyler, Sam Rogers, Cody Grimm make it.

I'd like to offer a counter to your comment about Gayle being "woefully inconsistent rushing the passer this season." Despite the fact that Gayle only has 2 sacks, I think you have to take note of the fact that Gayle's been double-teamed and chip-blocked all season. That has freed-up Collins and others to make-up the remainder of our 17 total sacks so far this season. Gayle has still generated 13 QB hurries, second-most to Collins who has 15. That tells me Gayle has been VERY consistent despite the blocking schemes of our opponents.
Additionally, Gayle has participated in 17 tackles, 9 solo and 8 assisted to include 4.5 TFLs. He's also forced a fumble this year.
One more point - I think you also have to add that prior to our game, Marshall was scoring 46 points per game. We held them to 21 points, all of them coming in the first half.
Uh oh. I hope we don't read our own headlines.
Good point. I do think that our Dl as a whole is much much better than USCe's. Clowney is a special player and is probably better than any one of our DLmen, but having consistent talent and tons of depth should be a plus in getting the pass rush and hustling to defend the screens.
It'll be an interesting game to watch the DL.

she was a radio city rockette a few years ago. not sure if she still is.
Yea, that's why I was never a great athlete (not because I'm Indian). All that damn sweat.
Betty Childs.... sigh
Don't be so sure. UNC is so good at those screens that the DL will have challenges. And keep in mind, Hurst dominated Clowney in the first game. JR. Collins and Dadi have a very tough matchup.
I am hopeful that we will see Skip, Luther, Nigel, and Woody eat up Landon Turner.
This Tar Heel thinks you hit our Preview on the nose. Will say this, you hold Tre Boston's play in a much higher regard than I do. I guess I've just seen him make bad read and after read and have #ALLOFTHEMISSEDTACKLES. Look forward to this weekend. Yours truly will holding down the Carolina front in a Hokie laden Family (14 relatives are VT grads). Looking forward to my first RAIL Friday night. See y'all in BBurg!
I get this weird feeling that Logan will throw 3 TDs. I have no idea why and it isn't based on anything but I just have a feeling. I think Cline finally gets in the end zone as well.
Joe and VTrumpet if you should fall, I wil gladly carry the #teamcake flag. I'd like to submit German Chocolate for the cake column. Also we haven't even gotten to the depth of cake which can be filled thus beating pie at it's own game.
A cake can act like a pie but a pie can't act like a cake. FACT.
Is crisp under the cobbler umbrella? blackberry peach crisp with cookies and cream ice cream is possibly my favorite dessert in the history of the world.
Besides maybe creme brulee...
Excellent as always, but more importantly I'm glad that Mason's Kickstarter campaign was successful and he's moved into the 21st century's mobile phone technology.
thought this was a tournament, with the winner of pie/cake facing cobbler next week...
you know, since we can't have one in football this year.
The 10am update from the NHC looks like they have Karen slowing down considerably over the gulf.

Can we not start this?
