My brother-in-law has an interesting solution to the plethora of TV timeouts (granted, he went to West Point, so we must take his thoughts on college football with a grain of salt). He has suggested selling ad space during the actual game. "This down sponsored by XYZ" or "this play brought to you by ABC" with logos shown on the telecast in place of commercial breaks. Half-time would be a bit longer to allow for more commercials. This already happens during bowl games.

Using meal plan money at concessions stands is brilliant. I definitely agree that students would spend decent amounts on food and drinks. But the issues that arise are the utilization of contract food service companies as suppliers for concessions and the program that allows student organizations to staff concession stands as a fundraiser. Also, Virginia Tech has been lagging behind the times in installing card readers in Lane Stadium.

Another great post! There are just not enough words for how much I can't stand GT or how much a victory tonight would mean! It's about time we shutup the talking heads at ESPN. Everyone is pulling for and predicting GT outside of Hokie Nation tonight. I hope we come out fired up and break a lot of hearts. Looking forward to seeing a lot of booboo lips on GT fans tonight when we win. Go Hokies!!!

Yeah, my rant there was mostly in regards to college FB as a whole, and mostly SEC-specific (that's what the article focused on, and I responded to that).
I do know a lot of these things aren't apparently problems with the VT student section. If it's as gravy as you make it out to be I'd never miss a game though.

I think a lot of this can be trust, too. This isn't a defense of his being slower (at least seemingly), but just in general of every quarterback out there. Particularly when you don't trust a receiver to catch a ball, or run the right route, that can get in your head and keep you from making that choice to go to them, even if they are wide open, or will be wide open.
If you don't trust a lineman to maintain a block, even though you want to run one way, or hand off the ball to the RB who looks like he has or may have a big hole to run through, you'll be delayed in making that choice because you expect to be tackled due to a block failing. There are a lot of things that can slow down your decision making, and perhaps the biggest thing is just letting whatever happen happen.
I would totally rather have all maroon everything...but like i said, i heard these uniforms are sweet, which would insinuate we will not be in LSU style. All I can say is let's invest some of the athl. dept's money in some nicer modern Nike Pro Combats.
I believe Shane has said that this year the running backs will substitute when certain plays are called, as opposed to last year when for the most part a back would have a series regardless of the play call. So to some extent Loeffler will determine who plays by virtue of what plays are called.

I tend to agree with that assessment. I know ECU and Marshall were close but I think it was wise to hold back and not show the whole hand. That being said I do not expect any type of offensive explosion tonight. I expect the offense to do its job. We are 4 weeks into this season. It's time for it all to come together, blocking needs to happen, passes need to be caught and we need to score at least 24 to have a shot tonight. Even with the short week the defense will find a way to slow down GT. 24-31 points will win this game either way. Go Hokies!!!
are those logos black or maroon? I have heard the uniforms tonight are the best since boise st. could we be in black? I am ONLY speculating, and they could very well be in traditional uni's. But I have heard rumors....
I almost wonder if they should play the game with minimal TV breaks and then delay it for TV commercials or you can pay a special fee to watch the entire game without commercials. Either way my biggest frustration with the media and football is:
-4 minute TV timeout after a score
-Kickoff, touchback, no return
-4 minute TV timeout before the first offensive snap
-3 and out
-another 3-4 minute timeout
It's the one that has no security and the doors unlocked, because no one messes with Bud.

But you failed to mention 2 instances in JUST the Marshall game...
1.) 4th and 1, shotgun, Logan keeps, doesnt get it.
2.) 1st and goal at the half yard line, ends up back at the 6 with a 3rd and goal, gets lucky touchdown to tie the game.
All im saying is, when you are in very short yardage situations, I think its common sense to believe you have a better chance of getting the first down under center as oppossed to starting 4-5 yards behind the line of scrimmage pre-snap...

There is nothing captivating or unique about being inside the stadium any longer. Instant replay cannot be seen. Bad calls cannot be slo-mo'd. Some of the ref explanations are lacking.
And the TV timeouts in the stands are mind numbing sometimes. Play the game...I paid to be here, show me the game!!!!!! Don't take 3 minutes off after a punt so Jimmy at home can get another beer. I'm here in 4Y dry, and paid to watch this game.
There's nothing INSIDE that cannot be understood from the outside any longer with the intraweb thingy and all of the tv coverage. So, bring the ability to do everything outside in (via upgraded connectivity.)
I think that is why we saw the addition of cell towers this offseason ( I can't recall if that is actually what they were but in the new scoreboard thread, i recall someone saying that is what they were). It is a sad fact, but those towers should help.
