So let me get this straight. We are currently not ranked. We went 7-6 last season. We have a new offensive coordinator. We were picked to finish somewhere in the middle of the ACC. We are currently 3-1 with our lone loss coming at the hands of the #1 team in the nation (highly regarded by E$ECPN as the best team to ever grace this universe) and somehow that makes us overrated? What am I missing here?

I always like to play devil's advocate on here so I'll do it again.

These ESPN analysts have an awesome, yet impossible job. They are expected by the general public to be the smartest sports minds anywhere, to know everything.

They know nothing about ECU and Marshall and I can't blame them. How many teams are in D-1 FBS football? It's a lot, they can't possibly know everything about every team. They saw that we barely escaped ECU and took 3OTs against Marshall, two relative nobodies in the major scheme of college football.

And yes I'll admit they're good teams, but we can't sit here and say "The ACC isn't as bad as people think, it can compete with the SEC!" And then say "Oh Marshall is on par with our team this year and we could win our division." It's a double standard.

Look, I'll take a win anywhere and anyway we can get it. But don't be mad when we take 3OTs to beat a mid-major team and then don't get praised for it the next week. We're not ranked so I don't know why he's picking on us for being over-rated but I also get where he's coming from.

PSA: Please don't downvote for my opinion, if you disagree say so and let's discuss. That's what this site is for.

I love me some Corey Moore murder eyes.

And he's being nice here.

I posted some of this on an alternate thread, but its more appropriate here. GT's defense will probably attack us the same way as Marshall's and ECU's did, committing LB's, shooting gaps and crowding the line. There should be some underneath stuff open in bail-out coverages, and maybe some press man on our receivers to take the short routes away, esp. on third and short.
Logan will pass better than he did in the Marshall Monsoon game (unless there actually IS a cloud hanging over him) and we should see our offense move the chains in a ECU-like performance. I just hope we have a kicking game when things get crowded inside the 20.
If there actually is a cloud over Logan ("fair-weather" fans seem to notice one) then Loeffler can make good use of Logan's "intangibles"; the 25-carry, defense-resting, 260 pounds of awkward-running battering-ramness that can win a game like a crescent wrench can drive a nail.

Remember when we had freakish athletes at receiver that would go up and fight for the ball and win and then wouldn't block?

WHY CAN'T WE FIND A LEGIT RECEIVER???

Our receiver recruiting really has sucked ass.

I'd take those passing stats with a grain of salt. Yes GT can throw it a little better than years past but hell Duke's passing defense just gave up 6 tds to Tom Savage from Pitt.

During the Marshall game, Kendell Fuller made a play on the ball, and ESPN puts some other guys face up next to his name, while they talk the play. Don't even know who the guy was, could have been Tookes, could have been some kid in dreads they saw on the street. Sorry ESPN, this ain't Clemson, you can't just put a picture of any kid with dreads and hope we don't notice. Getting used to them calling players by the wrong names, it's pathetic, they have NO CREDIBILITY TO TALK ABOUT ANY TEAM. It is just aggrivating how little effort they are putting in to cover teams. They talk a lot of junk and have no idea about what or who they are talking about. Guess that is the ESPN way.

There is just a lot of piling on this week about the decline of the program. Following a 7-6 season, we don't look any better and everyone is pointing it out. Particularly useful in conjunction with the Texas situation.

Time to beat GT and turn this tide.

Virginia Tech will never get respect and I hope it stays that way. Not for the reasons you think - but because I love our style of play. For many our style of play isn't sexy. We aren't going to put up a lot of points, we aren't going to blow people out of the stadium, we aren't going to run 100 plays in a normal game. What we are going to do is pound the rock, keep other offenses off the field, and stop them when they do have the ball. Add in a special teams play - and usually we are gonna win by 5-10 points.

That just doesn't translate into what many analysts want to see, i.e. quickly glance over on Saturday night, to put us into the discussion of being a top team.

well the team can't really pay any attention to the media. Just go out and win ball games. Everything else will come later.

Awesome! And could you please cut up a superclip of the head referee's derpiest moments (read: every time he had to speak)? Because people down here in SEC-land have no clue how bad ACC officiating can truly be.

I don't get being overrated when you aren't rated at all. If we were ranked in the top 20 and almost lost to UConn then I get it, but saying someone un-rated is over-rated is a total #GOESPN move.

Well remember, Miami is back, right? According to those brilliant ACC bloggers on ESPN who do in depth analysis on all teams in the conference and the teams they play. What a joke. Anyway, looking forward to us stuffin the triple option on Thursday.
