I'd like to see a scientific study that proves that helmets need to be broken in for player safety. I could see how it would be comfort related, making the padding fit to your head better, but that's why they wear the helmets in practice beforehand. Considering we have the most prominent helmet safety rating system right now, that professor would speak up if there were any real danger to changing helmets.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't we only reuse one helmet last year, turning the orange VT on white to the HokieBird asymmetrical helmet? I'm pretty sure we auctioned off the turkey tracks ones before they had the potential to be reused

The hokies would be their north market. The don't have anyone in VA, DC, and NC watching much SEC football and VT would be that ambassador. To get VT, as weaver has so clearly said, there would have to be a disturbance in the ACC to cause VT to reconsider. The SEC would try to grab a decent team to form a 16 team conference and it would probably be FSU or Clemson. Thus shaking the ACC and trying to lure VT and their TV following. It has been suggested that VT would increase the SEC TV's earnings by 33 to 50%. That is why they would target FSU or Clemson.

money money money

I agree--but I will use the sugarbowl argument. Should that game have only been field goal kicks until someone missed? No...but it was. This offense was moving the ball but couldn't finish drives.

So the hokies have worn the classic VT helmet for the first three games this season. I haven't done the research but I feel like that is the longest stretch with the same helmet in 3 years. This, combined with the NFL banning helmet switches, led me to believe that Virginia Tech has decided to stick with ONE helmet since they are the leading institute in researching helmet safety. I was imagining that if they were to alter a helmet more than the military appreciation one, they would use the maroon shell and add the pylon logo that you just mentioned.

Sidebar: apparently switching helmets doesn't allow them to break in properly, which can be dangerous. The design can be switched but the base color cannot. This is now an NFL rule but not NCAA

honestly i dont think that matter in any way shape or form, what "hokie stone" is would be explained during the game when this was worn. and not only that if you are watching our game or at our game then ya probably know who we are. "brand identity" is a much different thing now with the way media works. and when there is a vt slapped on the side of it then boom

I started going to football games in 1992 and haven't missed many since. It baffles me that students now don't want to make the ten minute walk to the stadium when I drive down from nova every game. Its been five years since I graduated and I still miss that ten minute commute.

A lot of people outside Virginia have heard of VT but don't really know much about the school. This helmet and all the other novelty helmets they've worn over the last few years is building a constant theme in their minds; We don't have a consisient university symbol and our football team (by far the most visible part of the university) will wear whatever gimmicky graphic they can't sell that month at the local t-shirt shop.

Whats next, a Burruss hall helmet, a duck pond helmet, or something thought up by the Virginia Pork board!?

No doubt in my mind, today the voters are a lot more dual threat QB friendly.

Awesome stuff. Didn't see the BC run in there anywhere. But it is nice to see an MV7 video in good quality.

i have to wonder if '99 happened with today's more open minded press corps, mike would've brought home that heisman.

I've never really thought of JMU as a heated rival of ours, to my knowledge we've only played twice (pretty sure JMU won on end of game field goals both times). JMU would only be a rivalry in the sense that they're a relatively close team that is usually ranked in the FCS polls, while we're usually in and out of it.

1:30 is the best part of the video, by the way.

Hmmmm....Now I'm wondering if Loefler kept one particular play from the Stienspring playbook. The Wild Turkey throw from Greg Boone to Tyrod Taylor. Couldn't find the play on Youtube, but Rogers was a HS QB and Logan already has a TD reception under his belt. I'm not sure about Roger's arm strength, but I'm assuming he could hit a quick go route.

It truly is a great ride. Best if in a snifter glass, but that won't be the case at home. The 120 Minute is much more of an intense ride. (Bang for your buck)

i never knew jmu and lu were such heated rivals until i caught a game that was in lynchburg on the radio a couple of years or so ago. it sounded like ish was chippy from the get go and the announcers kept going on about how much the teams disliked each other and what not. seriously no idea.
