If you throw paper airplanes at football games.

If you haven't joined in on the Cadet vs Civilian snowball fight

If you haven't hiked at least the Cascades (Bonus points if you do McAfee's Knob, Angel's Rest, Dragon's Tooth)

If you haven't been to Homeplace (guilty)

If you don't get the chocolate milk at D2

If you haven't snuck into Lane through the practice field

If you haven't reached for excellence at the end of the tunnel.

That's all for now

This is complete bullshit, Virginia Tech wanted Boyd but Boyd didn't even take an official visit to Blacksburg. He thought the offense we ran was heavy with zone-read schemes (w/ Tyrod) and wasn't going to prepare him for an NFL career. He saw what happen to Sean Glennon when we played a "Pro Style QB" and said VT wasn't the college for him (in fairness, if I was in his position, I would have done the same thing).

This is all revisionist history.

Something that I think contributes to this is simply the demographics of our student fan base. We tend to tap geographic areas that contain some serious NFL fanbases (Skins, Ravens, Steelers). If the Tech team isn't exciting them they simply choose to care more about one of their "other" sports teams.

I am not justifying the degradation of the student enthusiasm. Nor am I saying that all Hokies who also have an NFL team are bad fans. I just know that I see plenty of examples of Hokies that don't really live and breathe Tech football.

We also don't really have a flashy talent on offense to hold the gaze of these "on the fence" fans.

I really want the Gators... but their O is so inept, I think even the dumpster fire that is the Vols can keep it closer than that
ND... State's D might be good, but their O is probably worse than ours

Also going to have to go with Utah due to the Cavalier connection

You can't just ostracize these people... just have to come up with other things to do. It's the problem that's been dogging the program: stagnant, and complacency with what we have. There's "don't fix what's not broke", but I think to a point we've taken that too far.

A suggestion: start with everyone learning and singing the fight and victory songs. Great way to foster community, etc.

That thing has to be making bank. I always thought as an undergrad that Waffle House was the best business opportunity in Blacksburg. Someone beat me to it.

Personally, I'd rather have people not show up at all than show up and either be completely oblivious to everything, leave early, etc, etc, etc. You don't get a ticket? That leaves one more for someone who might actually want one, has a higher probability of staying the whole time, and overall contributes to a better atmosphere. Students aren't buying tickets? Don't blame them, thank them. Then, we can get back to what Lane is revered for: being a place full of loud diehards.

And last years team was one of the most unsuccessful of the last decade...funny that

You know what I'd love to see? A grassroots movement of sorts among the dedicated student fans. Wander around the Drillfield, up and down dorm halls, wherever, just asking everyone if they're going to the game. If they say no, ask why not. Share your favorite football memory. Remind them that it is free entertainment for crying out loud.

It sounds a bit kumbaya and all, but honestly I think the community aspect of home football is one of the greatest benefits. Sure, in my years at VT I was treated to (by and large) excellent teams (bookended by disappointing 2003 and 2012 teams, ironically enough), but my favorite part of going to the games was being there with everyone else - people I knew and people I didn't. I can't tell you how many times I high-fived or hugged complete strangers during the best moments of the games. I feel like that's missing. No one's going to respond to comments telling them they suck, but if they realize what they're missing out on, some of the best experiences in college, that may change some minds. Win or lose, I was always in those stands with 66,000 of my best friends - Hokie Nation. Everyone needs to remember what that's like, and if they've never experienced it, they need to learn.

I couldn't agree more with that. Boyd to Logan is more terrifying than any Clemson combo.

Lets not forget he also committed and decommitted to West Virginia after decommitting from UT.

It's so annoying that Tech couldn't get one of the many talented in state QBs that year. However if Tajh picked us the whole offensive staff from before would still probably be here, and while I would love to have him I think having a fresh offensive staff benefits more in the long run.

Logan's the man. He's my favorite player right now. But I've always said if Logan was playing his natural position with Boyd throwing it to him, the case would be full right now. Even with O'cainspring calling the plays.

I'm not about to start an "Is Logan the man for the job" argument again, but the fact that nobody really jumped on recruiting him makes me incredibly angry. Logan's good, but Tajh is astronomically better.

anyone choosing single game tickets should be forced to watch replays of dooley-era football
