Turkey leg for you! Way to support your team.

Just got back to Blacksburg. Despite the disappointments I'm sure we're all sharing regarding the game, it was a fantastic experience. Right before the game, I was in a restroom using the middle of three urinals, bracketed by a Hokie fan and a Bama fan. Someone outside yelled "Let's go!" to which me and the other Hokie fan both responded "HOKIES" in unison, at the top of our lungs, midstream. It was awesome. Other highlights included absolutely losing my mind during Trey Edmunds' TD run, and the section I was in erupting after a fan announced that UVA was losing.

I got heckled by one Alabama fan while leaving the stadium. He made some comment about Hokie fans 'not belonging,' citing that some wear gym shorts to the game (I was wearing gym shorts). I turned around and gave him a quizzical look, but didn't say anything and he told me "yeah that's right, silence. good call," and talked a little more trash. Other than that, all the Alabama fans I encountered were cordial and respectful.

A buddy and I wondered aimlessly downtown, looking for a bar, and found ourselves in the heart of Dragon Con terri'tree. It was both fascinating and terrifying. Finally found a bar, enjoyed some nachos, a few beers, and the second half of the Clemson game. It was a good weekend.

This could be a decent year, but think we have a ceiling with LT at QB and the current starting receivers. If the defense continues play at this level I believe national contention is possible with the next QB (Brendan Motley/Andrew Ford/Bucky Hodges) and the next crop of receivers including Josh Stanford.

I had only one experience. Some lady from Alabama said "Yea, those keys are really working for you." This was in the 3rd quarter, and I turned around and said, "actually ma'am our defense has been kickin yall's ass the whole night." She shut up.

Good question for French: who should play more (based off of Saturday), Dadi or JR? Methinks there's not much justification for decreasing JR's playing time but there's also not much justification for keeping Dadi on the bench. Very good problem to have.

Remember - the "analysts" on ESPN are not true journalists. They will always want the established powers to win. Dogs like VT with not much history have to carve their way in without expecting any help in the hype / publicity department. Hopefully our team will always - in all games, no matter whether we are ranked higher than the opponent or not - take that underdog attitude and play hard to earn it.

Uh, did I miss something? I'm a die hard fan, but you have to be realistic and temper some of these expectations. We went 7-6 last year and changed over the full offense. We still had a lot of skill position questions on offense as well (and still do). To me, this was a rebuilding year. No way had national championship even entered my mind.

The team is playing for the full season, not just one game. Bama has an impact, but if the team can get to 9 or 10 wins again, that is putting one foot in front of he other.

Honestly, it's comments like these, or ones slamming some of the players that make me wish some Hokies weren't hokies at all. I get so tired of these obscene expectations and bandwagonesque fans. I'm not settling for just ACC champs, I want the nat champ too, but I'm realistic. I always figured that being a Hokie meant you were smart enough to understand that. In addition, being a real fan means you stick through the rough times like these and continue to offer your support. You think Bama/Michigan/ND/Texas fans gave up on their teams when things got rough?

There are many fans on this site that would have loved a win last night, but saw in the lose progressive movement in the right direction. The D is badass. The O is picking up. Had the WRs not dropped those passes, our O would have been firing nicely. I'm excited about what Leffy has already done and am looking forward to VT future.

Agree, but VT should play it's young studs more if they are producing more than the starters. Like Dadi Nicholas, Josh Stanford, Ken Ekanem.

Doesn't sound like anything was as annoying as the damn Georgia band was last time I was in that dome which was the B Ore did great in the first half lets not give it to him second half game. Memories!!!

Wasn't it the read option that Edmunds scored on? Look back at the game, but I'm fairly certain that was the play.

just watch the replay and tell me that pick was logan's fault. Logan couldn't get the long ball working, went for an easy short crossing route and DJ stops running. How is that LT's fault? Coles has to finish his route, it's his only job.

Don't you think Demitri Knowles has had enough time? He's a redshirt Soph that still plays timid, very underwhelming, his speed is a non-factor because his isn't aggressive. Josh Stanford should overtake him for the starting spot.

Yup, he played well. I saw maybe 4 passes I think he'd like to have back. Other than that, he played about as well as you could have asked. He avoided sacks and threw the ball away when he needed to and any time he read one deep safety he took a shot downfield. His mechanics and decision-making definitely looked much improved from last year. His receivers let him down bigtime in this one.

Honestly, I'm wondering if all the talk about his throwing motion has gotten into his head. Maybe it would be better if he didn't think about any of that and just threw the ball where he wanted it to go. In whichever way felt the most natural to him. Hell, Tebow even won a playoff game on a pass. It wasn't the best looking throw, but it went where it needed to. Now, they've 'fixed' his motion and no one thinks he can throw a football.

Logan Thomas isn't a true quarterback. He should have been developed as a Tight End, may have even become an All American at that position. Like last year he can't throw a short ball, has no touch. He's too predictable running the read option and doesn't make good decisions on when to keep. He only makes yardage on the keep when there is a gapping hole, because he has no burst and zero moves/elusiveness. So why keep it unless it's 3rd and 1, or a huge hole opens? Throws a fairly good long ball, but all these things combined make him easy to game plan for.

Oh Knowles played horribly; there's no denying that. And I have not placed the blame solely on Logan ever. I'm literally just stating facts and trying to get people thinking rationally. That pick six absolutely destroyed the momentum we gained after the TD run and the ensuing defensive stop. Momentum plays a HUGE role in football games and your naive to think otherwise. And Logan should have never thrown that ball. There were at least two defenders right there! Logan has shown time and time again that he is not the best decision maker after the ball is snapped.

Every impartial fan who watched this game will say LT played poorly. I think I saw somewhere on here where someone thought that he played well? LOLZ

Right. My most vivid memories of this were the one(s) against Michigan. We gave the game away with bad interception attempts and roughing the kicker penalties. They should take a hint from soccer and start calling 'simulation' (diving) in an attempt to get that out of the game. It works too well.

In backup roles Dadi Nicholas had 2.0 TFLs and 1.0 sack, and Nigel Williams had 1.5 TFLs and 1.0 sack. Did Ken Ekanem get any playing time? I'd like to see him play after hearing he is a baller in practice, and compare him with Eli Harold who is starting for the Hoos. The 2012 & 2013 recruiting classes are contributing significantly already.

Kyle Fuller, I think, actually ducked under the punter's leg, and the ref literally called out the punter for taking a dive in a different way.

But I agree, there was no boneheaded special team penalty that extended Bama's drive a la Boise State. That's just painful to remember. I actually muttered to myself, "Please, no blocking punt attempt," because that's where we commit the most penalties.

The read option needs to go or get practiced more so it is done better. You are right that the other stuff generally went for 3-4 yards. But when you are down 28-10 or 35-10 you have to pass to catch up. It's a rough place to be in.

Someone do a gif of that spin move he executed leaving th AA linebacker grabbing for a chick filet w American cheese and pickles I think the end of 3rd or early 4th. Sorry just saw your post above calling for same.
