I could be wrong but my impression was that the only running plays getting stuffed were the read option plays. LT seemed hesitant and indecisive on these. Everything else seemed to go for positive yardage in the 3-4 yard range (sometimes more).

Agreed, LTs form regressed throughout the game. Time to go get better for three games, get LT back on track.

Unlike in 2004 when the less-talented-but-experienced receivers had to be benched to play the more talented youngsters, I think our best 4 are still Coles, Knowles, Stanford and Meyer. Maybe Caleb slides back (once JCC is healthy) since Edmunds looks so good. Maybe Newsome or Prince get another look. But I think this is our receiver corps and they had an awful game but will rebound.

Gotta keep Maddy and Hopkins healthy. They were spectacular.

Post game analysis:

I am prouder than ever to be a HOKIE!!!! ~8)

Or maybe Frank Beamer.

Oh sh!t, forgot. My bad.

And even when we ran into the kicker on one punt, there was no flag. No fumbles, one pick that was debatable, no special teams penalties, no defensive-third-down-stops-that-gave-them-new-life-because-of-a-penalty. We're looking more mature/disciplined this year, and with the offensive line looking pretty good, I think we'll put it together soon.

Then the next serious the defense punched Alabama in the throat. THE MOMENTUM WAS SO BOUNTIFUL then we gave it all away.

If that's the case we should give Kevin Jones a spot on our staff and Antonio Freeman.

I've seen that look before. Its just usually me or my family doing it. Its nice to see others have to do it.

Lots of fun tailgating, we were next to bama people and they were friendly. I had some problems similar to 08hokies I didn't stop yelling and screaming whenever we were on d, nothing negative just cheering on the hokies. Couple of bama fans sitting right behind me barely cheered until when our 2's came in and they were on d with like 3-4 left, they just started clearly screaming into mine and my dads ears. I just graduated this past spring so im used to that but I didn't appreciate them being dicks to my dad, didnt wanna risk getting kicked out so all I said was "aww man the bama fans ARE here." Also they sang some song at the end of the game, I only caught a few lyrics but it seemed like something they sing after every game and they inserted "hokies" in there somewhere, something about kicking our asses or something I couldn't quite catch it but that kinda pissed me off too.

All that being said, that's what you sign up for when you go to these neutral site games with passionate fan bases so I'm not angry or anything. Loved goin down there to watch my hokies play and I'd do it again in a heartbeat

It is really annoying how the analysts aren't giving credit to our defense and just saying the bama interior was playing bad. Our ends were also dominating. Saban even came out to say Gayle was giving them fits.

I agree wholeheartedly that this is an uphill battle, I know that I might be drinking too much of the KoolAid, but I can't remember a time when I've felt this good about our football team.

Getting to 10 wins was great, but it was like eating chicken over and over and over. Especially with the coaching staff. I like chicken, but looking at the surge of Oregon, I envied other programs because it felt like we were doing the same thing over and over and over.

Last night, Logan threw his arms up in the air like he just didn't care. WR's shifted like they had spurs on their nuts. We witnessed kids who were playing high school games literally a few months ago, come in and locked down #9 so badly, even Chris Speilman had to make an excuse for him.

They won't say what they saw. It infuriates me that McDonough didn't bring his good mojo like he did for numerous big games that he's called and we won, but it pisses me off more that he didn't call it like it was.

The Hokies didn't win, but we sure as hell made them bleed. A lot like a team that sent USC to a national title with Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart at the helm.

Here's one happy stat from last night - 0 fumbles. How about that?

My thought process is not based upon turkey leggin others. However, it is unfair to harp about LT's game and then not compare him to the other QB. You know, the 2 time National champ? The 1st rounder who played as dismal a game as LT. But people tend to want to compare last year with this. VT's offense outgained Bama, and we both had
the same number of turnovers.

A completion takes a passer and a receiver. For every bad ball you want to rake LT over the coals for, how about a lil love for Knowles, who let a pass hit him in the facemask? How about the senior WR with 2 procedure penalties?

The INT did not cost the game. It cost VT four points. They converted their TO to a TD, we converted ours to a FG. However, what ACTUALLY cost the game was two special teams returns for TD's.

I think we got behind in the score quickly and had to change the game plan. It all spiraled out of control when the receivers made more and more drops and alabama kept daring us to pass. I think the thing to remember is this is a young inexperienced offense that is brand new. It should only improve.

Expecting to score 5 times after how we looked last year and with a new offensive system and all new receivers is expecting a lot going against the number one defense from last year.

French, what are the chances that with the improvement we have seen so far, in 2-3 years, we can have a running game like Wisconsin had two years ago? Pound it in, no matter what the defense does?

i felt like early on logan was very confident and accurate. we're lining up in new formations, he's throwing his arms up and dudes start running all over, lefty is calling a creative game. but as the 3 and outs and drops starting piling up, he regressed to 2012 logan. in the 2nd half everybody in the dome knew the o was just gonna go 3 and out. the oline was doing pretty well and he had happy feet. from where i sat, his accuracy and technique suffered as the game wore on.

look, i've defended lt3 passionately on this board, and i'm not x and o guru, but i'm starting to wonder if he can regain that 2011 form. i hope i'm dead wrong but he's a senior leader and the entire passing game with just a big bowl of ass last night.
