The Key Play needs a post of the day award, and today sir, you win.

Actually now that I think about it Joe, you should have an award for best post of the day/week/month/year/forever

Whatever, just a random thought.

I went to Riverheads High School just south of Staunton, VA. It's a small single A school and we really don't have much in terms of D-I prospects. Although we just had our second ever sign this year, he will be going to Pitt next fall (BOOO!). I think VT was recruiting him at one point, his name is Mike Herndon.

Anyway, if you like old school style football, we run a wing-T offense and run the ball probably greater than 95% of the time. The guys take football pretty seriously and are in the weight room all year. Our OL is big and aggressive and we've had some studs recently in the backfield that racked up sick yards. You can search some video on YouTube (I would post it but I'm at work).

It's definitely the highlight of the week in my town to go to games and we've won three state titles since 2000. I miss that place....

well...41 from offense 21 from def and special teams. All I want to see this year is our defense swarming like they did that night. If offense does average and defense plays like that...I will be happy

I film for Holston High School so I go to all of their games (For free and get free food at home and some away games!!!). Its a small Single A school in the Hogoheegee district so not a lot of college prospects on our schedule and most of them go to FCS at best. Occasionally someone will get an offer from a non-BCS school or walk on at a BCS school. (I played against Grant Throckmorton when he was a Senior at George Wythe my Junior year of High School for example)

Now we need someone to record this on youtube and send it to LOLUVA and London!

I completely get your point. Severity is included risk, as stated in the definition "probability or threat of quantifiable damage." Damage, in this scenario, being the loss of experience in the secondary. So, you're arguing no risk should be taken, which is fine. But you can't convince me no risk should be taken without the data proving that the risk is in fact significant.

I think French's point in his article is a little bit different. I think he's saying the risk is maybe low, but the reward is no longer worth it, so it doesn't matter cause no returns are going to be good. I disagree with that and I believe punt returns can still change field position and momentum. Even if the average return is low, the sole exceptional return that changes the game is worth the gamble.

Whatever happened to using our best players on special teams? This is how Beamer Ball got its reputation. Granted it's from TSL, take note at 0:40

I definitely agree on the Alabama game. I want as much experience on the field at all times, we don't want special teams mistakes. Even players who go on to contribute to the team in great ways are susceptible to mistakes their first time on a big stage.

Example 1 has already been mentioned:

Example 2 from last year:

Neither mistake made the difference in the game, but they were both big momentum swings that led to points for the other team.

I'm fine with us bringing in some younger, less vital guys to return punts, but I'd prefer to have experienced guys like Jarrett against Alabama and then have the younger guys get some reps against Western Carolina where mistakes won't be as critical.

As much as I loved the Sugar Bowl win over Texas, we were never more completely dominant than against Syracuse in '99. 62 points from our offense, and the defense pitched a shutout, against what was supposed to be a pretty decent opponent.

Miami 1999
Alabama 1998
West Virginia 2000 (Andre Davis scores 3 TDs 3 different ways)
To name a few that haven't come up on here.

...And the internet goes to...Hokieshibe!

Best game - Syracuse 1999. Everything, I MEAN EVERYTHING, went the Hokies way that night. That still is one of the worst humiliations of a team that I have ever witnessed.
Biggest Game- WVU 1999 - That game put the Hokies over the edge for the title game.
Favorite Game - Miami 2003. The Coliseum back in the heyday of the Roman Empire had nothing on Lane Stadium that night.

As reported by InEnemyTerritory in Bama thread. Amari Cooper caught 4 passes for 182 yards and 3 touchdowns in Alabama's first scrimmage.

We need an experienced play maker and captain in our secondary more than we need that same person to return punts. Plain and Simple
