Agreed, savory over sweet all day and all night. I'll choose a steak over sweet any day of the week.

All my sweetness come from beer. Malt is my favorite sugar source...

Irony of tradition is that ours is still so young. I mean, we are talking about like 20 years, while Bama, PSU, Michigan, etc are far beyond that.

I would have loved being in the SEC, but I'm not sure where we would fit right now. Part of me would rather be on the top of a lesser conference, than be middle or bottom of the pack in the best conference. The other part of me feels that we fit with ACC better, academics, other sports, etc.

Those don't really matter though, looks like we will be in the ACC for a while, so gotta make the best of the situation.

In the meantime, I just keep it trucking, continuing to build the traditions and respect. I mean, when I first wanted to go to VT, people thought I was a fan of the state of Vermont...

I don't really understand all the negative backlash. The lottery sucks.

Now there will be some freshman in the stands, standing, yelling their lungs out, and staying the entire game that might not have been afforded the chance in a lottery system.

Ronyell talked a lot of crap to the other team but I don't think he falls into the same cat as Marcus

Nope, the perception isn't even close. Not only has UGA been very successful recently (they were arguably one play from a national title last year), but the program has all the cache (read: girls) in the world. It's got cool uniforms, a massive following, an awesome stadium, in a great location, 90 minutes from Atlanta close to South Carolina, etc.

We are what we are, but we should all appreciate to be as successful as we are is very remarkable. We succeeded in spite of ourselves in a lot of ways.

This is a great example of how our sports marketing department sucks. Instead of continuting with the lottery and creating a sense of anticipation and demand (and then just awarding tickets to everyone who entered the lottery) they make it obvious that there's a lack of demand this season, by annoucing no lottery is neccesary... which only serves to reduce demand further.

Helo_Hokie, there's a guy who posts on TSL who has recorded every game to DVD for the last few seasons. Please post up an email address and I will send you his contact information.

Until RichRod, WVU was in much the same boat as us - which is part of what made the rivalry so great. I think they have one of the best records for teams in terms of total wins that hasn't won a national championship. And until Rodriguez showed up the book on WVU was that you couldn't give them cereal in a bowl because they'd choke to death on it. Nehlen had a bowl game losing streak that was pushing a decade plus at one point. Their recent performance in BCS bowls (string of wins in the Sugar, Fiesta and Orange) has erased that commonality so at present VT is in its own category of "Good but not Great" misery on the national stage.

It's still remarkable that of all the teams that have played in a BCS title game, VT is one of the very few to have not been there before. Until Oregon-Auburn we were the lone "outsider" program to crack that ceiling if memory serves. The big mystery to me is still this: how did our OL recruiting get *worse* after a national championship appearance?

You gotta put some weight behind the fact that his entire immediate family are huge UGA fans... SEC helps, but IMO the reason Alabama and Georgia were a step above VT in his book were not because they were SEC but because
A) Alabama: high quality program/coaching + dynasty / championship run
B) Georgia: high quality program/coaching + immediate family's affliation with them

VT was in the mix because of our high quality program/coaching but we did not have the X factor (for Mr. Park anyway) that those other two schools had.

hmm..., I'm going to have to say any dessert with cheese get's my top vote:
Cheesecake, Cannoli, Carrot Cake (Cream Cheese Icing), anything with marscapone. Not sure if it's a category, or parts of others, but definitely anything with cheese.

I'm not going to start a riot over it, but I don't like it. They should have to go through the lottery like all other freshmen did so they learn to appreciate the value of a ticket. I would obviously rather have freshmen season ticket holders in the stands as opposed to empty seats. It makes sense that there are more season tickets available with our lackluster schedule, which I also don't like. To recap: I hate everything.

I'm fine with it as long as all the upperclassmen had a chance to purchase them. Everybody that entered the season ticket lottery should be offered the option to purchase them before they offer it to Freshman. I'll check with my buddy in the ticket office to see if that's how it went down.

UPDATE: I didn't realize there is no lottery for student season tickets like basketball. I never had to deal with any of this stuff.

The Run Down: Freshman can purchase their season tickets during orientation. Every upperclassmen should've already purchased their season tickets by then, so I've got no problem with it. More revenue for the Athletic Department

This doesn't bother me at all, even though I did have to go through the lottery system when I was a Freshman. This is probably happening because they couldn't sell out seats to the alum. I'm also sure that the 17-18 year olds willing to spend $80 on season tickets will be much louder. IMO the more students in the stands, the better.

BOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Pay your dues. On a side note I know that Georgia has a program where students get free student tickets however if you skip more than two games your tickets are taken away from you. Would love to see a system like that implemented at VT.
